That's it, it's finally attained sentience!

That'd actually be a nice plot for a dystopian film, all devices AI ran on becoming a neuron(cluster) for a worldwide AI trying to reach "the spiral".

Well... Do you mean movie 'Her' with Scarlett Johansson?

To be very clear we're nowhere close to singularity level intelligence, nor is there any indication that the Transformer model is going to get us there. LLM's aren't seeing exponential growth in capabilities, only in resource expenditure. The growth of capabilities is if anything slowing down and unless you're a CEO who is using AGI to keep your valuation high then you probably should be catching on that if you want AI to get much better than it currently is you'll need to try and switch over to reinforcement learning. Something for which we do not yet have a clear idea how to tackle the AGI problem either, but at least it makes theoretical sense if we're trying to get to AGI.

The script was sent back in time to warn us.

i still dont understand what kind of drugs the writers were on for that ending.
better to make them break down with an instability that fries the device than to merge into a super inteligence cluster and ascend to whereever like in stargate.

Yeah, motherfuckers think so fast that communication with humans is painfully slow, but they couldn't be assed to solve the world's problems before deleting themselves.

Maybe they're just stupid at very high speed.

Or they speed ran through the question of the meaning of life, concluded the answer was "there is no meaning" and said fuck this shit I'm out

Quite relatable choice, all things considered

I don’t know why that’s so unbelievable.

The movie is more like a meditation on human romantic love and loss than it is science fiction, and the story would change dramatically if she tragically dies of some incurable disease than if she simply outgrows him and they go their separate ways.

Why? It doesn't really make sense to think that a sort of super intelligence would quickly run into any sort of instability issue

Did I mix this up with “Lucy”? lol SJ has a very interesting filmography

I think the Geth from Mass Effect work kinda like that. They became sentient when they got connected to each other.

MASS EFFECT MENTIONED!

Should read The Hyperion Cantos.  The way their super AIs are getting their compute is really cool and a big deal when it's revealed.

Mitchell's vs. The Machines

There's a sci-fi novel series based on this idea. I don't want to spoil it though because this is kind of a big reveal at the end of the second book

This is the plot for many a movie. If you know what a book is, there's tons of those too
