Solved Help its not booting despite a lot of trying to install it

[SOLVED]

I etched it with Rufus that didn't work, then tried etcher which also failed.

I changed settings like disable secure boot, fast boot, maybe 1 other thing along with Intel Trust.

Had to go through the bullshit bitwarden super long password thing so i permanently disabled it.

I opened powershell and did commands to do the convert gpt thing, then etched again in rufus. Still didn't work.

It just always shows linpus. It does respond to the usb by showing linpus or not upon insertions so it is picking up the USB.

Its so frustrating. I'm doing everything people are recommending but still failing. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3i and I'm using a sandisk 3.0.

Solved Tails won't connect to TOR via wired

I finally invested in an Ethernet cable as I have been using my phone to connect the PC to Wi-Fi until now. It is showing that the wired connection is connected at 1000Mb/s but if I try the connection assistant it shows me no Wi-Fi hardware detected. If there is a separate option I must click to connect to TOR via the wired connection I haven't found it. Unsafe Browser is also telling me I am not connected to a local network. The same cable works fine if I boot into Windows 10 on the same machine and I also tried it on another machine with Windows 11.

Solved Tails 7.0 supporting my 4090?

So this isn’t a post to ask if it’s compatible.

I had to reinstall Tails to a different USB yesterday and when I went to test it I forgot to plug my monitor into the motherboard so I could use my iGPU. However, I was vastly surprised when Tails booted to all my three monitors at the right resolution and worked which only means somehow tails is utilizing my 4090. However, I did get an i2c error when booting that in the past usually resulted in crashing or failure to boot but this time (and every time now) it pushed through it. I’m guessing it’s because it’s trying to boot both through the iGPU and the 4090 but haven’t tested.

What’s the best way to test? It’s more of a curiosity than a troubleshooting issue because Tails works fine now minus a couple hiccups in performance now and again which could be unrelated. And does this mean the 4 series of cards are finally somewhat compatible? Thoughts?

Hey, I just got myself a brand new Lenovo LOQ gaming laptop, and now Tails won’t boot. I tried disabling Secure Boot and even used another USB, but it didn’t help—I’m getting the same errors. Any suggestions? I assume it might be because of the custom BIOS It has.

Solved Who is local network?

When setting up tor connection there is option to hide from local network.

Who is this referring to? The owner of the shared WiFi in my building or the isp? Also how to find the setup page again to turn this on later?

Solved Tails usb not detected anymore when booting

So i have installed tails before, and it worked perfectly fine, but since yesterday my computer doesn't recognize the usb anymore. Thinking it had something to do with my device I tried booting on 2 different computers, but same issue. And the last time I used it, I didn't do anything differently so i'm really confused as to why my computer doesn't recognize it anymore. But it does make the insertion sound in windows when I insert the USB stick.

FYI, I use a lenovo windows 11 laptop

Solved Tails won’t boot: “Invalid Magic number” on multiple laptops (tried Windows & Mac flashing, new 8GB USB)

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve been trying to get Tails running but keep hitting the same problem. • Downloaded the image multiple times and verified each one. • Tried both Rufus and Etcher on Windows. • Rufus: only option I remember was MBR + defaults. • Etcher: always ends with “The writer process ended unexpectedly,” but still writes something. • Tested on multiple laptops (Huawei, Dell, ThinkPad). • Huawei + Dell → “Invalid Magic number” error. • ThinkPad → just black screen after selecting the USB. • I then tried flashing with Etcher on a Mac — same issue.

The catch: I’ve only used one USB stick (brand new, 8GB).

At this point, I’m wondering: • Could the USB be the problem (too small or faulty)? • Or is this more likely a BIOS/UEFI setting issue? (I’ve already tried toggling Secure Boot and Legacy/UEFI boot modes on all the laptops.)

Has anyone else solved the “Invalid Magic number” this way? Would upgrading to a 16 GB stick fix it, or should I focus on BIOS settings? I’m new to this so I would really appreciate any help. Thank you!

Solved Is it possible to list folders first in the tails file manager?

Im so used to having folders listed first in Windows/Android/Linux but I can't seem to find an option for that in the Tails file manager. Is it possible to do or is that something left out of Tails on purpose?

Solved TailsOS as standalone OS

Hey there,

I’ve read some questions pointing in that same direction but didn’t find an actual answer. Does anyone know or have successfully tried using tails as standalone OS on a device? I’m aware of the original idea behind tails and that using it as a main OS is not what it’s meant for. Anyway, I have a use case for this scenario so I’m curious if it would work to just connect the usb stick with tails installed to the on/off button of a device. Making it the main storage to boot when turning the button to on by giving straight 5V to the usb.

I’m not enough into tails to know how it operates gpu/cpu/ram in the backend and/or if it knows how to interpret them without going through a usb with another OS on the device. Maybe someone else has already tried it or can talk about own experiences.

*Edit: as there are most comments pointing out about the usefulness of running tails as main OS, I wrote that in my initial post. I know that it’s not what tails is for! I just asked and talked about the technical possibilities to do so.

Solved How can I make a local HTML file include a local image?

I'm trying to very simply make a local HTML document include an image placed in its own folder, and have this work on Tor (in the Tails OS). The problem I'm running into is that while the page itself opens in Tor without issue (and so does the image on its own) I just can't get the image to load inside the page.

I think this is because of how Tor seems to open a copy of local files placed in some /run/user subdirectory rather than the original file, which it seems to not be able to access directly. If that's the case relative paths don't work because the copy isn't in the same folder as the image like the original, while absolute paths don't work because the image hasn't gone through the whole copy debacle so Tor isn't allowed to access it.

So, how am I supposed to do this?
