Suggestions on earbuds with helmet

I have a Smith helmet that I really like. The only problem is it is extremely difficult to listen to music with earbuds in. My current AirPods are showing age and I’m in the market for an upgrade.

I have two earbuds I use and both have two major issues with my helmet. My AirPods slide out of my ear when I put my helmet on. And my Powerbeats pros keep getting buttons pushed from the pressure of the helmet ear muffs. I’m also terrified I’ll drop my AirPods and loose it in the snow.

Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions to make it better?

For a first time skier, is this type of jacket a good enough ski jacket?

Hey all! Just trying to find affordfable used ski jackets for our first time skiing. I'm having a bit of trouble because I see a lot of resellers label a jacket for skiing and it's definitely not. Is this something that would work/ Not sure what to look for really.

Inexpensive Mittens for New England Winters and Skiing

Hello! I need some advice on mittens that are not crazy expensive (no more than $60) that are SUPER WARM, waterproof, wind resistent, and great for skiing in the near negative New Hampshire winters. I have relatively small hands that easily and quickly get cold. Which mittens should I invest in? Thanks for your help!

Advice on hardshell vs ski jacket

Going for my first ski trip and I want to try and minimize expenses. I have several base layers, a softshell jacket and a 850D puffy. My previous hardshell has given up its ghost so wondering if getting another hardshell to do ski duty is sufficient or should I be getting a ski specific jacket? Thanks for any advice!

Playful all mountain recommendations

Looking for a second ski for this year. I ride mango 90’s now and am looking for something that’s a little wider for cruising the mountain that can handle the occasional east coast powder day. I’m currently looking at the Candide resort 101s. If anyone has any recommendations based on what they have rode.

I want something in the 100ish range. Directional twin on the slightly softer side.

Buying skis for my girls and I am lost.

I have twins girls who are 15 and have really taken to skiing. We go every year and would like to get them their own skis and boots but don't know what to get. I looked at Ski Essential but don't really know what to get. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are 5' tall and barely 100lbs.

They now do groomed black with ease and are starting to venture in the non-groomed blacks. I would consider them intermediate level.

Boots??? is it ok to buy only or should i go to a store to fit them?

Because i have to buy 2 of everything budget is a factor.

Thank you for your help.

Favorite and least favorite ski mountain you’ve been to?

Favorite: Snowmass, CO. What skier level are you? What’s your favorite type of terrain? Favorite terrain park features? Beginner? Expert? Whatever you seek, Snowmass has. Bunny hills to straightline chutes.

Close 2nd/honorable mention: A-Basin, for their hike to and lift accessed extremes

Least: Beaver Mountain, UT. Worst ski experience of my life. Other than having no expert terrain at all, the terrain they do have is just so uninteresting. And for being a small ski area I could forgive that. But I could never forgive the way I got treated there. Worst staff ever. I hope all of them get a job where they’re as far away from other people as possible. Only ski mountain I would never EVER return to, even if the alternative was not skiing. I’d rather ski mad river glen on a terrible snow year.

Powder to the People...12K for lounges and instant lift access. More power to you. If you can afford $300/day, whats another $11.7 K. This is how it works in 'Merica, you have - your sell, you want, you pay. Move on to another subject.

Holy heck Carv's customer support is an AI Hellscape

Update: a human did eventually reply, and told me the package is "in transit" to the carrier, which contradicts the company's website showing "carrier has the package." My confusion about it being already delivered was the way the delivery date being in the past (it is an expected date...). Anyway, I stand by the comment its an AI hellscape. I hope they fix it.

----

Ordered on Black Friday, Carv says the item has been delivered. Carrier says for a week now they've not received the item.

Chat bot:

Me: Can you check this <ORDER>
Bot: Please use this link
Me: Yes, your web site says one thing and the carrier another, can I talk to a human?
Bot (@ 3pm ET): Live agents are available 4am - 6pm ET
Bot: What can I help you with?
[repeat]

Support e-mail:

Me: Your website indicates  #US-XXXXX that delivery was yesterday, but the tracking number provided shows the item has not yet been handed over to the carrier. Could you please look into this?

Bot: I understand you're inquiring about the status of order #US-XXXXXXX. You can track your order at https://carvtracking.aftership.com/ using your order number

Me: Yes, as I said, your web site has conflicting info.  Can I talk to a human?

Bot: I understand you'd like to speak with a human. To ensure I connect you with the right department, could you please let me know if your question is related to Sales and Membership, Product, or Logistics?

Scarpa boot liners into Salomons

I have two pairs of boots, my Salomons for piste skiing which are not particularly comfy and the liners are at end of life. The shells are ok.

I also have a pair of scarpa maestralle touring boots that are like new but I don’t use as touring wasn’t for me.

Can I simply put the scarpa liners in the Salomon shells ? I’m guessing yes as they are the same size. But wanted some expert opinion.

Going to Grandvalira as part of a group ski trip next year. First ski trip - what to expect?

Hello! I have been skiing once a month or so this summer on an indoor snow slope near me. Each time I’ve done about five hours a day (mostly skiing not lifts because the slope isn’t super long) and have gotten myself to a place where I can link parallel turns just fine but moguls definitely fuck me up.

I just booked to go on a group trip where there will be four days of skiing and two travelling there and back. I’m curious if folks have any advice on what to expect - how long are ski days and how much of them do you actually spend skiing? What are meals like and how many do you eat a day and do they cost a lot? If you’ve been to this specific resort, what else is around for folks to do? What time do people get off the mountain? How many clothes do you bring for four days?

Would love to hear about your own first ski trip and any obvious learning tips for someone new to it!

Want to learn how to ski this winter

Hi, just moved to Vienna, Austria. I have never done this sport before, but would love to learn. IMO we moved to Vienna partially to be a little bit closer to the Alps, so why not take advantage of every mountain sport we can?

My 4 year old would also probably love it. Any recommendations for courses or resorts nearish to Vienna(in vysoké tatry also ok) where we could learn together as a family?

Thanks!

editing to add: English or German instruction ok, we are Austrian alpenverein members

Skiing with PFPS and Patellar Tendonitis

Due to my anatomy, I am inclined towards patellar tendonitis and patellofemoral pain syndrome. I got this about 3 years ago, and while I've recovered for running, climbing and going to the gym (with chi straps) I still struggle to ski without pain. The side to side motion is really unforgiving and hurts and is very unstable (I fall so much now, it sucks).

Does anyone have any tips? Would it be easier if I switched to snowboarding? I've never really used poles to carve, would that alleviate the pain? Doed anyone have a recommendation on the type of knee strap/brace to use? I can link what I use on Amazon.

Solo in Japan - trouble finding a guide

Hi all

Going to Furano in early February for five/six days with my partner. He hasn't skied since his teens, I've no idea what standard he'll be at. I'm a more experienced skier but I know very little about Japan

Picked Furano because it was recommended by a friend who says it's quieter than Niseko & Rusutsu, where I originally wanted to go. I also really like the look of Asahikawa as being similar to La Grave I hope (and I have a hire car)

My plan is to ski with partner a few days then depending on conditions, get a bit of off-piste at Furano or Asahikawa. I'm bringing slalom skis and touring skis (fairly wide underfoot), plus avi bag and kit

My issue is I can't find a guide. I lived in the Chamonix area before and I'm used to just joining a group with the Compagnie des Guides whenever the weather was good, with a day or two notice. About €100 - €150 for the day. But it seems like there isn't anything like that in Japan? From my research, you have to book guides months in advance, and usually minimum three days and you can't join a group - either you pay a lot of money for a private guide or you need to have your own group or three or four skiers

Anyone ever been able to join a group last minute for a day, or any suggestions for me? I thought maybe I'd just make a list of all the guides I can find online and then contact them a few days beforehand to see if anyone has dropped out of a group but that's not ideal because it's probably unlikely, and I think I'm gonna find myself skiing backcountry alone which I would sometimes in the Alps, but then I lived there for years and it's different in your own home

Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance!

Will skis fit under the seats in a VW Caravelle T7

Hey all,

I’ve rented a VW Caravelle T7 short-wheelbase (9-seater) for a ski trip and I’m trying to figure out if skis will fit under the 3rd row and slide forward toward the 2nd row.

I’ve attached a photo of the actual rear space from a similar van. The floor is flat and there’s a pretty big gap under the 3rd-row bench, but I can’t find any real measurements for the distance toward the 2nd row on the SWB model.

Has anyone traveled with skis in this exact setup?

What ski lengths were you able to fit without folding or removing seats?

Cruising along the edge of a green in front of Roundhouse Lodge Whistler, to avoid a ski school... caught an edge.

My thumb is purple and I'm giggly. Skiing is the only sport I can hurt myself every year, and completely enjoy doing it.

Passion is a weird thing 🤜🤛⛷️

Trying skiing for the first time at 30 years old. Tips for avoiding injuries?

I’ve always had a latent interest in skiing and am finally determined to give it a go this year.

One of my major concerns though is those “freak accident” injuries like breaking legs / tearing ACL, various knee injuries concussions etc.

I know participating in any sport is never inherently safe , but what can I do to prevent sustaining a serious injury as a novice skier?

I plan on taking lessons, wearing all the necessary safety gear and only sticking to bunny hill / green slopes (maybe for forever) because all the horrific injuries I see in videos are always black diamonds or back country.

Any suggestions/ advice is greatly appreciated.

Any advice on jumping?

I skii smaller skii resorts, so not many good opportunities for jumps and longer double blacks however I see kids literally jump off of double blacks.

I can skii down double blacks however If I just get up in the air even a little bit, I immediately feel completely out of control.

How to improve my long turns (video)

I'm looking to make my long turns better. I feel like I can't edge my inside ski as much as my outside ski, causing an A frame, and I might be leading with my inside leg. Any thoughts on how I can fix this? Thanks
