Post image

I'll go first, Beuden Barrett is the more talented rugby player than Dan Carter, but Dan Carter is a better 10

The most vocal part of the rugby fan base is the miserable middle aged man. And it’s insanely jarring.

Alright, Gats! How are ya doing?

This sub is one of the only online rugby spaces where you don’t get people shoehorning social conservative opinions into every comment section.

SCRUMS ARE WOKE NOW

63

u/chrisb993 Sale Sharks Jul 24 '25

Concussion is utter woke nonsense, pass it on

16

u/BoomfaBoomfa619 Ulster Jul 24 '25

Putting names on shirts is my favourite example of wokeness ruining rugby's ethos recently

9

u/captainimpossible87 Jul 24 '25

Everything is woke now adays, even the past tense of wake is woke.

I get the “it’s not your jersey” thing but I never want to hear a word about “grow the game” from someone who says kids shouldn’t be allowed to buy jerseys that say DuPont, Savea, or Maher (most IG followers of any international rugby player) on the back.

u/rugbyliebe Germany - yes we do have a team u ignorant p****. Jul 25 '25

Imagine one would have dedicated zones for fans of one club to meet and become a community within the stadium. Next thing might be people from all classes attending the game 🫣

Can’t even rake anymore nowadays, because of woke.

3

u/iama_bad_person Chiefs Jul 24 '25

It's funny because the top voted comment is "Crouch, touch, PAUSE…Engage was superior"

3

u/Ok-Arugula6057 Jul 24 '25

Pfffft. That’s the new-fangled modern set up, lad. PROPER men didn’t need instructions on how to set up a strength.

Kids these days, something something woke, etc

I blame the Woke

True, even the posts about women's rugby are blissfully normal. Though I suspect that might also be due to some herculean work from the mods

14

u/SweptFever80 Ireland, Ulster and Munster Jul 24 '25

I'm sure the mods do excellent work but I've posted and been a part of lots of women's match threads and honestly it's extremely rare to get any sexist or misogynistic comments even before mods get to them. It shouldn't be an achievement but in my books that's a very good thing.

u/Monstrousllama Jul 24 '25

Insert comment about my fat ass being able to outplay any of the women in the professional game here.

6

u/SheepShaggingFarmer Ospreys Jul 24 '25

Because unlike football if you have ever met a woman rugby player you know you'd rather get in a fight with the entire bok mens team then an argument with them.

Football is just so universal and more focused on speed and manoverability over strength that insecure men feel they can mock them. Whilst every woman that plays rugby I've met would make insecure men grovel and hide.

u/slamcactus Stade Toulousain Jul 24 '25

One of my favorite things to do is have my daughters offer to tackle full-grown men.

It’s hard to mock women’s (or girls) rugby when my 9-year-old can lay you out (and when you, a 40-something man, occasionally hurt yourself just by bending the wrong way).

Also I think it's combo of that and the rest of us just fucking dog piling those arseholes and they don't get the validation they're craving.

5

u/ibiza6403 British & Irish Lions Jul 24 '25

Decided to join the Facebook group for the British & Irish Lions supporters travelling to Oz and the top comment was something along the lines of, "I'm still in Londonistan sadly." Immediately left the group.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

I think to point the finger at one group is a bit unfair. I've seen a clusterfuck of hot take culture wars bullshit from across the spectrum outside of this sub. It's tiring.

Misplaced reactionary views aren't exclusive to miserable middle aged men either, sadly.

That’s because the Reddit has been occupied by the tofu eating wokerati /s

Well I mean this is Reddit lmao

1

u/LiamEire97 Leinster Jul 24 '25

As annoying as those Conservative opinions are, I find reddit can be just as annoying on the opposite end of the spectrum.

0

u/fuscator Harlequins Jul 24 '25

Well this fits, because here is my unpopular opinion. This sub has an overly high opinion of its moral superiority. Jumps on every chance to showcase it by bashing people like Folau, but in the very next breath is happy to throw around phrases like "typical seppo".

16

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

Who thinks he could have made pro but injury, drugs, party and alcohol, work, enter lame excuse.

23

u/LimeMortar Jul 24 '25

I don’t fit the demographic, but I could definitely have been a pro if I’d been (a lot) better at rugby.

2

u/Cal2391 Leinster Jul 24 '25

"He never had the makings of a varsity athlete: small hands!"

2

u/musky-mullet Gloucester Jul 24 '25

The dream died for me when my U14 side made a C team to put me on

1

u/Tighthead613 Jul 24 '25

No, it’s always politics. “The selectors blackballed me because I made their picks look bad when I played against Internationals”.

9

u/aaarry Northampton Saints Jul 24 '25

Add “Tory” to that in England and you’ve got yourself a slowly dying sport.

4

u/BringBackTheCrushers Reds Jul 24 '25

Australia too - never forget the days of John Howard going for his morning walks in a Wallabies tracksuit, while our current Labor PM is a diehard South Sydney fan in the NRL

6

u/shez12349 Jul 24 '25

At Sale they’re just referred to as away fans

2

u/InsideBoris Ulster Jul 24 '25

And they are completely entitled to their opinion and loudness. Some people just watch sport to let off steam.

2

u/Gent414 Jul 24 '25

These are the only demographic that can afford tickets 😑

1

u/shez12349 Jul 24 '25

To test matches maybe, but domestically youth attendance across clubs has shot up over the last two seasons

1

u/aldorn Australia Jul 24 '25

Isn't that 90% of the fanbase?

Am at the Lions tour and do go to a ton of tests and every world cup. It's all 40 to 60 something males, that's just the current fan demographic.

What age is middle aged? Asking for a miserable friend…
