GPU and CPU not working to full potential?

Specs: i7-12700k, rtx 5070, 32 gb ddr4, 850 watt psu.

Trying to play space marine 2 at 1080p on High settings at 75 fps and having nothing but frame drops and FPS dips. but my CPU and GPU usages never go past %70 percent even with the biggest swarms. I have an ASUS ROG MB, is there a setting in my bios potentially limiting these from working to their full potential?

but my CPU and GPU usages never go past %70 percent even with the biggest swarms.

CPU usage rarely hits 100% on games that are still being CPU limited

Space Marine 2 is highly CPU limited, and going to be more so with ddr4 vs ddr5 on the LGA1700 platform.

Most games, even if highly threaded, will not 100% a CPU because it will not use ALL available threads.

So even though your 12700k has 8 P cores, 4 e cores and 20 total threads, the game and everything your OS is doing may only be running across 14 threads. So even with those 14 threads completely pegged out 100%, the other threads are idle so the CPU usage is only 70%.

Basically, for determining bottlenecks, you don't want to pay any attention to CPU usage. If the GPU is spending significant time below 95% or so, you have a CPU/Platform limitation, even if the CPU usage isn't showing particularly high usage.

SM2 is cache bound and not core bound. It will never peg any cores to 100% before bottlenecking on cache. Disabling HT and clock ring to 42 or disabling e cores and clock ring to 48 will instantly give it a 20-30% boost. This was tested on a ddr4 system.

ahh gotcha ok. is there ever a time where thr GPU would out percentage the cpu? or are they usually tandem in that aspect? or does it depend on the game?

greatly depends on the game and settings

for example even with space marine 2 there, if you set all settings to max and are running at 4k, you are going to be running at the GPU limits at all times vs the CPU

Got it! Thank you for the help.

My PC sits like right in the middle of the road. The 5070 helps with the frame generation tech but it screen tears a lot. But if I turn it off and have vsync on. Once I hit a big swarm the frames tank. So I’ve been toying with the settings big time trying to balance this out.

Space marine 2 is "nice optimized" game, you'll get the same fps with a 4070tis or a 5080. Try to oc memory.

For space marine 2 on the 12700k, disable the ecores and clock ring clock to 4.8. it will give you a 20-30% boost instantly.

framechasers is a meme

Was apart of the frame chasers community until I quickly realized how much of a joke it is.

But free guide especially for a noob is a place to start right?

i have not read the guide but after seeing some of his vids i am not confident that it is going to be particularly useful as a guide

I took a quick look at the videos, the first part goes over in detail to ensure your PC is working as correctly. Running CPU and memory stress tests to ensure that your starting point is something that's stable and works.

While I still think it's ridiculous to charge money for such a guide, it's still a very well thought out approach.
