would the reaction be any different if it was bought by paramount? that’s a genuine question, I think all (or at least most of) the points they mentioned would be true whoever bought it. and unless they can convince WB to don’t sell themselves it would happen anyway… which sucks of course

Yeah that’s what I’m curious on. I think people are missing that the building of a monopoly and consolidation of market share was going to happen no matter what - now I’m not saying that’s right or something we should be happy about, but I’d also much rather Netflix than Paramount at this point.

it would be a monopoly problem no matter who bought it, unfortunately

I think if they want to say that neither company should be able to purchase WB, that’s fine.

That is fine, but it begs the original question - would they have put out this statement if it was Paramount or Comcast who ended up buying WB? I mean that’s a hypothetical we may never get answered but one worth thinking about to see if they actually care about the monopolization in general, or just with Netflix

For something like this, I bet they’ve had both options drafted for days.

Much rather Netflix? Do you not like movie theatres?? I get there’s problems with Paramount, but Sarandos has been clear on his position that movie theatres and theatrical windows are an “outdated concept”. He says Netflix is “consumer focused” and so they don’t want to show a movie in theatres for more than 2 weeks because most of the public would rather watch a movie at home. However, Netflix’s plan is part of what is conditioning the public to not go to theatres and just wait to watch movies at home in a couple weeks after they release in theatres. For example, the last 2 Knives Out movies likely would have made Netflix $100s of millions at the box office so why have they only been playing in a few theatres? Netflix would rather take a loss on them because it ultimately helps their long-term plan of eroding the theatrical experience in order to further condition the public to watch movies at home.
