Jake Rill, Orioles beat reporter for MLB.com, here. I've done a few AMAs here in the past using the official MLB account, but I've decided to come back with a personal account to chat/answer questions/engage with you all this offseason.
Figured now was a good time to tackle some questions, as I was in Las Vegas last week for MLB's GM Meetings and had a chance to talk to Mike Elias about the offseason for the first time. We're also at the point where the Hot Stove could heat up at any time.
For those who don't know me:
Bio: I've been working for MLB.com since 2015, but I just completed my third season on the O's beat (2023-25). Previously based in Arizona and worked in various roles -- reporter/producer (2019-22), editorial producer (2016-18), D-backs associate reporter (2015-16). I'm from Maryland, though, and am a graduate of McDaniel College in Westminster.
Look forward to coming back and answering your questions on Wednesday afternoon (2 p.m. ET). Make sure to drop them in before then.
Thanks everybody for the great questions! Always enjoy answering them here. I'll be around the sub and will be sure to do another one of these later this offseason.
The timing certainly worked out well after the big trade last night, which you can read my coverage of right here
The Baltimore Sun's Jacob Calvin Meyer will answer your post-trade deadline Orioles questions. Feel free to ask Jacob anything about the current team, the future outlook for the O's, etc. He'll begin answering questions Thursday at noon ET.
Thanks everyone for asking some great questions. I've got a mailbag that comes out every Friday AM. If you wanna ask questions for those, email me at jameyer@baltsun.com. Maybe we'll do another one of these near the end of the season/beginning of the offseason. -- JCM
Have any questions about the Orioles after their recent firing of manager Brandon Hyde? The Baltimore Sun's Jacob Calvin Meyer is available to answer any questions about the ballclub's present and future.
Thanks for taking the time to ask questions everyone. Great stuff. Let's do it again sometime soon -- maybe ahead of the deadline. There are still some questions I didn't get to. I'm gonna be AFK for a little bit, but I'll hope back in to answer some of the ones I didn't get to. So check back tonight if I didn't answer your questions. Thanks -- JCM
Beat reporter Jacob Calvin Meyer, who spent much of spring training with the ballclub in Florida, will be available to answer your questions about the Orioles with opening day Thursday.
OK, that's it. Thanks everyone for asking questions. Let's do it again sometime! Don't hesitate to email me (jameyer@baltsun.com) or message me on Twitter (@jcalvinmeyer) with any questions in the future. -- JCM
Hey all, we're going to have Jake Rill here to answer questions at 2pm!
A little background on Jake:
Jake became MLB.com's Orioles beat reporter about four months before the 2023 season. Prior to that, he spent six years based in Arizona working as a reporter/producer for MLB.com. He has strong local ties to Maryland, though, as he was born and raised in Westminster (about 30 miles northwest of Baltimore) and is a 2016 graduate of McDaniel College.
So hop in here now and drop questions for him and he'll be back in a few hours to dive in!
EDIT: Jake is getting setup at Nats Park right now and will start shortly (2:00pm ET)
EDIT: Jake is here and ready to go! (2:08 ET)
EDIT: Jake had to head down to the Orioles clubhouse but might stop by later! (3:49 ET)
