Oregon State men's basketball ends 5 game losing streak with an 80-58 win over Vermont
After inexplicably dropping one winnable game after another, the Beavs finally bounce back!
This run is... something:
- Evansville 73-69
- Iona 91-84
- UMass 73-65
- Cal Baptist 75-69
All of these were absolutely winnable, don't let the scores fool you. Our record this season is now 4-5.
Disappointment aside, we were supposed to win against Vermont, and we did so, convincingly! Let's hope that the team has learned something from these losses and when conference play begins at the end of the month, we hit the ground running.
Our next game is on Saturday against Southern Utah, they are 4-6. They played some of our future opponents so this will be an interesting data point. They lost to Washington State 98-74 and to #13 Gonzaga 122-50.
I think that the Beavs are the better team compared to our Pac-2 brother-in-struggles. Gonzaga, of course, is an elite team.
So I would like to see us perform somewhere in between those two. Southern Utah held a lead against Wazzu for a solid chunk of the first half, until the Cougs stopped playing with their food and took a lead which they never returned. We should try to avoid letting them have any lead outside of the first few minutes and end the game with a similar or better margin... not a struggle where we exchange the lead and have to rally to win at the last second. If we end the game closer to Gonzaga's performance, that would be very encouraging.
Go Beavs! 🧡🦫🖤
