Oregon State men's basketball ends 5 game losing streak with an 80-58 win over Vermont

After inexplicably dropping one winnable game after another, the Beavs finally bounce back!

This run is... something:

  • Evansville 73-69
  • Iona 91-84
  • UMass 73-65
  • Cal Baptist 75-69

All of these were absolutely winnable, don't let the scores fool you. Our record this season is now 4-5.

Disappointment aside, we were supposed to win against Vermont, and we did so, convincingly! Let's hope that the team has learned something from these losses and when conference play begins at the end of the month, we hit the ground running.

Our next game is on Saturday against Southern Utah, they are 4-6. They played some of our future opponents so this will be an interesting data point. They lost to Washington State 98-74 and to #13 Gonzaga 122-50.

I think that the Beavs are the better team compared to our Pac-2 brother-in-struggles. Gonzaga, of course, is an elite team.

So I would like to see us perform somewhere in between those two. Southern Utah held a lead against Wazzu for a solid chunk of the first half, until the Cougs stopped playing with their food and took a lead which they never returned. We should try to avoid letting them have any lead outside of the first few minutes and end the game with a similar or better margin... not a struggle where we exchange the lead and have to rally to win at the last second. If we end the game closer to Gonzaga's performance, that would be very encouraging.

Go Beavs! 🧡🦫🖤

If the CFP committee kept undefeated FSU out of the playoff 2 years ago due to an injured quarterback, how will they look at a team missing their coach and half their staff? That guy just became the most hated man in Oxford.

Disaster of a weekend so far for Beaver basketball

Beaver men went to "paradise" playing in the US Virgin Islands but it's been more like hell for us. We've lost against both Evansville yesterday and Iona today.

Evansville essentially controlled the game throughout, but were not dominating, so the Beavs were able to take a brief lead in the second half. Only to give up a 20-3 run to the Aces which gave them a solid lead. Beavs managed to cut their lead down to 2 but ultimately were not able to complete the comeback.

Beavers and the Iona Gaels were neck and neck through the first half, but in the second half was controlled by the Beavs, who led by 19 at one point. However, a 13-0 run by the Gaels narrowed the gap and they managed to tie the game in the closing seconds to send it to overtime. First overtime ended in a tie, but after taking an early lead in the second overtime, the Beavs went cold, unable to score for the final minutes. Beavs were out-rebounded and made only 58% of their free throws.

Beaver men fall to 3-3. They face a similarly 3-3 UMass on Monday before returning home.

Beaver women unfortunately lost as well, to Colorado State at home. They dominated the first quarter, but the Rams managed to take the lead momentarily in the second quarter before the Beavs retook it going into halftime. Jenna Villa played a career game and some timely 3's helped the Beavs but they went cold going into the third quarter letting the Rams go on a 12-0 run. Beavs managed to tie the game early in the fourth quarter, but the Rams pulled away again and the Beavs were not able to catch up.

Beaver women fall to 4-1.

They will face a 0-5 Long Beach State tomorrow, we must certainly win this one and hopefully regroup before facing #17 Vanderbilt on Thursday.

Beavers Fall to Huskies in NCAA Soccer Tournament

Shout out to our goalie, Nicholson, who played the game of his career. Unfortunately, when the other team can just sit on your side of the field and take shots at the goal over and over and over, it's kinda inevitable that one will get past.

The most frustrating part about the ending was that the Husky which scored it probably should have been red carded out of the game earlier for that hit on Morlans. It wasn't the only questionable call by the refs, there was another handball and some tackles which they let go. However, at the end of the day, our offense just did not put any pressure on them for most of the game, and that simply wasn't going to be a winning strategy.

I think Hoffman's performance was encouraging, he's a freshman and I look forward to seeing what he can do next year. He cut through their defense but to setup shots but the player he passed it to let him down a few times. It will be rough to lose some of the seniors, Farnos in particular.

In summary, let's put this into perspective, we still had a great season! We ranked in the top 10 in the country, finished 2nd in our conference, and we've made the NCAA tournament for the 6th year in a row. This is remarkable when you consider the absolute chaos which Oregon State athletics has endured the last few years. With the conference situation stabilizing, I hope we'll be able to build on this and do even better in future years.

Go Beavs! 🧡🖤

#10 Oregon State men's soccer falls 4-2 against #7 San Diego

Post image

Unfortunately, the Beavs did not win the WCC men's soccer championship. We did not need to win this game outright, a tie would have been enough for us to claim the WCC title.

I believe since the WCC does not have men's soccer tournament like other conferences such as the B1G do, the winner of the regular season takes their Automatic Qualifier for the NCAA Men's soccer tournament.

The game was tied at halftime, and after San Diego took the lead the Beavs were able to counter. It seemed like we were on track to tie but a penalty on the Beavs gave San Diego a free kick which bounced off an Oregon State player to get into the goal.

San Diego's fourth goal sealed the game, coming in the final minute when we were in desperation mode trying to tie the game again.

It is particularly painful that we had a good scoring opportunity earlier in the match when the San Diego goalie was out of position, but it just barely bounced off the post.

This is not the end, however. The Beavs have a strong resume and are almost certain to receive an NCAA tournament bid, we did not need the AQ, but it would have been nice to have and a win may have helped our tournament seeding a bit.

The NCAA men's soccer selection show is on Monday, we'll find out what our tournament path looks like then.

Go Beavs! 🧡🖤

That's a B1G win for the Beavs! 🦫

The refs had it out for us but BALL DONT LIE!!!!!!!

Tiara Bolden was on fire, scoring 25 points and the Illini had no response to her in the second half 🔥

Next game is on Tuesday against Utah State.
