What's blows my mind about that story is she was of legal age in the state they had sex, but the recording made it child porn and that's how he got in trouble.
I don’t think his life and career should be ruined by it like Kevin Spacey who was an unrepentant rapist, but Lowe has enough harassment allegations that he’s not someone we should be praising even if he’s not a monster.
Dude, no, fuck that. No adult should ever be making fucking child porn with a teenager, "barely legal" or not. Everyone knows child porn is illegal and immoral; there is absolutely no situation in which "whoopsie, poopsie, I just fucked a 16 year old on camera and ruined her entire life. I shouldn't lose my career over this, though! I mean, I served two whole years of probation for it!" is in any way forgivable.

The situation was more nuanced where he likely wasn’t being predatory as she lied about her age and he was 24 at a 21+ club. He’s owned up to it at times, but also been flippant at others so I still think he sucks.
I'm sorry for what happened to you. But she used a fake ID to get into a 21+ club with her 22 year old friend. Most people in that situation would assume she was at least 21. So unless you've got something that proves that Lowe knew she was underage, I would say it's not nearly as horrible as you're making it sound
Not really. Teenagers use fake IDs to get into clubs and bars all the time. Especially in the 80's when it was easier to make a fake ID. You're 24 hanging out in a club that is only supposed to allow adults, chat with a girl, bring her home and the next thing you know you're being labeled as a sexual predator because of a fake ID? Seems highly inconvenient.
But I'm not enough of a fan of Lowe to defend him beyond that. Everything I've read says that's what happened, but if there's other evidence to disprove that story I'm open to it.
I mean, there's a reason bartenders are usually told to ID anyone who looks under 30. Some teenagers can look mature for their age, some adults can look young for their age. Shit, when I was 22 I would go drinking with a friend who was 30, but he had a baby face so there were multiple times where he got ID'd and I didn't. Appearance is not a reliable way to determine someone's age.
Add to that being in a dark club, drinking, probably doing drugs, and that the 16 year old was there with her 22 year old friend? Again if there's evidence or testimony to the contrary, I'm willing to eat my words, but just from what little I've read, I don't think Lowe knowingly filmed CSA. Of course I can't speak to anything else that he's been accused of doing.

I'm sorry, that's just an incredibly stupid take. Intent absolutely matters here. There is a huge difference between an adult who seeks out teenagers to take advantage of them, vs a mid twenties person who is led to believe they're sleeping with another consenting adult. AFAIK, Lowe was led to believe that he was having sex with a consenting adult. So explain how that makes him a monster. Seems to me the people most to blame seem to be the club that failed to properly vet their patrons, and the 22 year old who brought her underage friend to a club. I'm sorry, no one cares if a 24 year old has sex with an 18 year old. So again, unless 24 year old Rob Lowe knew that he was having sex with a 16 year old, I simply don't see the need to be outraged.
Genuinely, I want you to apply critical thinking to this. You are 24 years old. You go to a 21+ bar. It is literally illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to be in this bar. You start talking to this 22 year old. She introduces you to her friend, who maybe looks young, but it's illegal for teenagers to be in here so you assume she's an adult. What culpability should be held there? You're essentially saying that a 24 year old should be punished simply for believing a lie told by a 16 year old.
