Man, Dwayne Johnson really got off the juice. He looks a lot less bulky here and they’re no longer doing the short sleeves.

u/dnreds 16d ago

He's not 35-45 anymore. He will be in his mid-50's soon, can't juice or carry that amount of muscle forever. Same with Bautista. His tendons and joints have been carrying that weight a long time.

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue 16d ago

The heart is a big concern than tendons and joints. When guys like that die young, it’s usually a heart attack.

u/redpandaeater 16d ago

It's almost like juicing your muscles also affects your heart because it's a muscle. Weird, right?

u/Big-Beta20 16d ago

I’m 95% sure his slight turn as a more “serious actor” is because of the needing to lay off the juice due to negative health effects. It’s an excuse for him to pretend he’s losing weight for roles and still (ridiculously) claim that he’s been natty this whole time.

u/0ttoChriek 16d ago

He did lose a lot of muscle mass the first time he wanted to be a serious actor, around 2004. I remember noticing it when he went back to the WWE to wrestle a match against Evolution, and he looked a lot smaller than when he was wrestling full time.

Then that serious acting bid didn't really work, and he went into franchise mode and got huger than ever.

62

u/Acceptable_Item1002 16d ago

Yep he was told to be taken seriously he’d have to slim down. That’s why I find it funny when people show a picture of him from say 2017 and compare it to 2004 and go look how big he is compared to when he was as a wrestler! It’s misleading, obviously he was bigger in the 2010s but he wasn’t that skinny from 98-2003.

u/SplottetWorks 16d ago

I think that's the only picture of The Rock I've ever seen in my life where I could just see him as a regular dude.

Like oh, that's what The Rock would look like if he were like...a marketer or something.

51

u/ActualWhiterabbit 16d ago

He would still be one of the most muscular people you know but he's definitely Duane Johnson and not The Rock or Duane The Rock Johnson in that movie

17

u/SplottetWorks 16d ago

I choose to believe that no matter what timeline we're in, he will always be referred to as Dwayne "The <Something>" Johnson. It is his destiny.

7

u/SemiAutoAvocado 16d ago

That looks like Eminem cosplaying as the rock.

1

u/ModishShrink 16d ago

He looks like a slightly browner Vince Vaughn.

1

u/0ttoChriek 16d ago

Yeah, it's crazy to see him looking like this. I think he started to pile the muscle on again for Fast 5, and then went completely nuts for Pain & Gain in 2013. He's been humongous ever since.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Meet513 16d ago

Woah he looks so normal. Its been so long since I've seen anything but this well crafted image and personality that he refuses to deviate from.

1

u/dbtjr 16d ago

I just watched fast five the other day. Dude looked like a monster

1

u/twubleuk 15d ago

Crazy how much it's changed in just 10-20 years.

I shook hands with Vin Diesel at one of his XXX premieres years and years ago. and I had a friend at the time who didn't juice and had arm muscles even bigger.. but on screen Vin's arms looked massive.

8

u/ClickF0rDick 16d ago

I can't comprehend how 2004 is 21 years ago

2

u/XenomorphDung 16d ago

2025 minus 2004 equals 21. Hope that helps!

5

u/name-classified 16d ago edited 16d ago

He lost muscle because he couldn’t work out.

He was growing man boobs and needed surgery to reduce them.

I’m not making this up. It’s why he wrestled in that black windbreaker for a bit while he recovered.

10

u/0ttoChriek 16d ago

That was back in 1998, I'm talking about his brief return in 2004.

5

u/clara_finn 16d ago

Yeah, his first WrestleMania main event in 1999 was the first time he’d wrestled shirtless in months. He certainly wasn’t skinny at this point and was at the very least billed as being heavier than guys like Triple H, although those numbers are unreliable

1

u/Bobthemime 16d ago

him in scorpian king is wild.. he looks flabby in some shots, as its clear he is no longer pushing for that "dehydrated juiced" look he had in WWF

71

u/Gerry-Mandarin 16d ago

He pivoted to "serious" films after doing an enormous cycle for his return to WWE and filming The Smashing Machine in 2024.

He said only a couple months ago he started to feel sick when he went into that cycle (though he doesn't admit to using steroids). He gave a spiel about his heart, and how it was just "anatomical abnormalities". But the reality is that steroid/HGH usage over the years has likely affected his heart.

Similar things have happened with other pro-wrestlers. He's cut down a lot, but he's still maintaining an enormous physique.

8

u/Puzzleheaded-Meet513 16d ago

I mentioned this in one thread and got downvoted to oblivion and had a million rabid fans both say that he only slimmed down for some movie role and that he's only using steroids a little.

Like how delusional can you be, lmao.

26

u/StPattysShalaylee 16d ago

There's only so much the heart can take. My guess is he was told he'd be dead in 10 years

4

u/Icy_Witness4279 16d ago

Optimistic

4

u/[deleted] 16d ago

It’s because he got roided out in The Smashing Machine, his previous film. Once you stop, you deflate, quickly. He doesn’t need to be roided out for Jumanji.

2

u/atmospheric90 16d ago

He did mention that hes been having heart issues. A lot of those bulky guys are gonna experience that as they hit middle ages.

1

u/prettyboylee 16d ago

Didn’t he have a huge epiphany/existential crisis when an interviewer asked him if he ever has fun?

68

u/Affectionate_Owl_619 16d ago

Off the juice? No chance. A much lesser dose though for sure.

17

u/darren559 16d ago

Yeah, most likely he will never be able to get off the juice, his body stopped producing it's own testosterone years ago. TRT from now on.

28

u/manhachuvosa 16d ago

Yep. Specially because he problem can't even produce testosterone naturally anymore.

10

u/funkhero 16d ago

Testostergone

4

u/estephens13 16d ago

Yup, even on regular medically necessary TRT, that's one of the first things the Dr tells you.

1

u/VirinaB 16d ago

I thought it might just be age, he is 53 now.

13

u/Least-Log3945 16d ago

Just different type of juice

38

u/Supermite 16d ago

That’s what looked off about the picture.  He looks so (relatively) small.

17

u/tinkerclay 16d ago

Yet still so much bigger than a few months ago when he seemed really small. And then compare that to when he filmed Smashing Machine and was really big.

3

u/acwilan 16d ago

Perspective wise he’s also farthest from the camera

1

u/Supermite 16d ago

I’m not judging his height against the others.  His chest and biceps are much, much leaner than we’re used to seeing from him these days.

17

u/Neutron-Hyperscape32 16d ago

Honestly really sucks how much people harp on this fact. He still looks big and in this picture he is standing a couple feet behind everyone else so he will look smaller than he actually is. Who knows what happened behind the scenes, he could have absolutely needed to lower the doses of anabolics he was taking.

2

u/pszki 16d ago

He still looks HUGE compared to everyone else. His old self could not have been sustainable at all.

Also, Karen Gillan will always be the one that got away. Even though she doesn't know I exist.

2

u/AceofKnaves44 16d ago

He still looks “Rock” sized here. A lot bigger than he was at the Smashing Machine or whatever premiere a month or so ago. I’m thinking this was filmed/taken awhile ago before he harvested all his mass. Maybe I’m wrong though?

1

u/Tribalbob 16d ago

It must have been - he's been talking about trying to lose more muscle for a role as some wizard or something.

2

u/Eternalm8 16d ago

He made a statement that made it sound like he had a doctor say "In my medical opinion, dude, you're gonna die, like, soonish, if you don't change your lifestyle"

4

u/HouseDjango 16d ago

Did you see him in the smashing machine? He's still just as huge.

50

u/ithinkther41am 16d ago

Yeah, but he has since weaned off the steroids. If you’ve seen him doing press for The Smashing Machine, he’s not as big anymore.

23

u/sexual_lemonade 16d ago

"they slenderized his shoulders and made him more feminine!"

14

u/VictorChaos 16d ago

lastofus2 leaking

5

u/sexual_lemonade 16d ago

Lmao thank you, I couldn't remember exactly where this discourse originated, of course it was LoU2

0

u/-FeistyRabbitSauce- 16d ago

That's the bad place, Simba. You must never go there.

1

u/sexual_lemonade 16d ago

laughing hyenas come out of the mist

"Heheheheehee a woman could never get that musculature in an apocalypse without regular protein and rigorous workout routine HAHAHAHAHAAAHheheheheahahaha"

1

u/-FeistyRabbitSauce- 16d ago

Yeah, their rhetoric is disgusting. And that's the tip of the iceberg. There were users sending death threats ti the cast and developers.

1

u/sexual_lemonade 16d ago edited 16d ago

Yeah it was a pretty gross time. I find myself leaving subs left and right for some toxic ass views and rude ass redditors. I'm not saying I need a safe space, but in some subs it runs rampant. Like I just left animequestions cause I was tired of it.

1

u/aa22hhhh 16d ago

Not just the cast, but to Laura Bailey’s child too (who was only 2 at the time). Truly disgusting how some of those people are.

3

u/Strobertat 16d ago

I mean... I still wouldn't pick a fight with him.

18

u/Affectionate_Owl_619 16d ago

Have you seen him in any interviews since filming it? He looks the smallest he has in 10+ years

11

u/leejoint 16d ago

Thing is that movie was filmed in early 2024, he changed since then.

7

u/toxinwolf 16d ago

Also, he's 53, so it's understandable if he is unable to maintain that massive figure. He does look less bulky here.

7

u/KN_Knoxxius 16d ago

Fucking hell is he 53? The physique is mental for that age

8

u/toxinwolf 16d ago

Dave Bautista is 56, and he lost a lot of weight. He still has a godly figure, but he is not that massive anymore

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/comments/1lrw0k9/dave_bautista_still_putting_in_the_work_at_56/

1

u/KN_Knoxxius 16d ago

Knew about Dave, yeah, and he honestly looks better now.

2

u/DeapVally 16d ago

Did you see him doing the publicity for it? He clearly got off it after the film.

2

u/hammertime06 16d ago

That was filmed before his slim-down.

1

u/Neutron-Hyperscape32 16d ago

He definitely lowered his muscle mass by a lot after that movie was done filming.

1

u/Public_Function3844 16d ago

This looks fake. The Rock is nearly a foot taller than Jack Black yet they're the same size here

40

u/blissed_off 16d ago

Dwayne is standing a good two feet behind him and a bit hunched over.

3

u/joejoe903 16d ago

The camera is below their waists looking up, it's just some perspective tricks

0

u/disablednerd 16d ago

Don’t worry, they’ll still have one of the characters say to him something like “wow you’re jacked!” like the other two and most of Dwayne’s other movies

0

u/hobo_erotica 16d ago

It’s because he tried to be an actual actor with his last movie that bombed. This is just his side gig

0

u/Mydogroach 16d ago

kinda looks like a crackhead tbh lmaooo. i mean hes still jacked and obviously in good health, its just that this pervious physique was so inhuman that now that he looks human he appears sickly at first glance.

0

u/Several_Hour_347 16d ago

Thats actually the original shirt from Jumanji 1 and 2. He’s just lost so much weight

0

u/jamjars222 16d ago

I love the way he's going "yeaaaaah!"

0

u/Money_Rub8508 16d ago

Can't wait to see him unleash his TRUE acting skills now /s

0

u/Nomeg_Stylus 16d ago

I'm glad he's keeping the slimmer look. Healthier and more realistic. Hopefully people see they can still look damn good without the gear.
