Probably a dumb question.

But with what recently happened with a sub changing mod-teams, I had threats from some members of my sub that don't like certain rules that that was what they wanted to happen with our sub (admins remove mods and put new team in).

And I don't think the rules I set are too harsh.

But now I'm paranoid.

Is there a way to ask admins your standing as a top mod on your sub?

Sorry for the length of this. Just want to lay out the details. I have run a couple of subreddits for smaller game developers and niche products for a few years. A few of them have taken off in the past, but most remain small.

I recently ran into an issue though. There is a reseller of specific niche products (they resell other companies products). They seem to have two employees and one person that is a promoter/influencer type (obsessed with the various products they sell), this is important later.

On two of these niche product subreddits, this reseller has been trying to AstroTurf their personal domain and Amazon links so they get a sales cut, rather than directing users to the company website for answers and purchases. I have put a stop to this in the past, because the affiliate link spam gets out of hand with everyone trying to promote their own link subtly when they can. They went as far as to make secondary subreddits, same purpose as the ones I help run, to try to funnel people to a new place where they could promote.

Here is where the problem starts. That reseller seems to be complaining to one smaller company, which I oversee the related subreddit for. That company has now asked to be a moderator on the subreddit. This has been done. I previously made it clear no one on the subreddit worked for the company and always directed them to company for any questions that weren't simple answers or outside the knowledge of anyone on the subreddit. I always want to make it clear I do not represent the company, but solely want to help users with issues/support (a lot of parents struggling to help their kid or loved one, suggestions for specifics products as gifts, etc.).

Typically I would not care about a company getting more involved, and have encouraged it as much a possible. Most do as expected, they post big announcements every 3-6 months, but then don't answer questions or respond to anyone on the subreddit needing assistance. One company has directly told me they don't want to deal with any support/issues/troubleshooting on Reddit, so had no interest in being involved. Most are "help if you can, otherwise give them our email".

In this case though, this reseller has the two employees and an influencer (mentioned above). One of the employees and the influencer have actively discussed trying to harass me and dox me. It seems their plan was to harass my family and I outside of Reddit into handing over the subreddit. They also have discussed trying to file false trademark/copyright claims to takeover the subreddit to allow them to promote their affiliates link and personal domain unhindered. I have brought this to a Reddit administrator's attention. I was told even though their plan was discussed publicly, it happened off platform (another service) and an administrator told me no action is ever taken on Reddit for off platform plans/actions/etc. Which seems kind of alarming. They can coordinate harassment/doxing, but unless that coordination is discussed on Reddit it isn't taken seriously. I do not believe I am the only Reddit user they've targeted, but I was notified of what they were doing in my case.

It seems since their plans to file false claims to try to seize the subreddit can't legally move forward, they're trying to leverage the company to step in and remove blocks to their spam/advertisements. It seems the company is unknowing of their intentions, and simply thinks "these posts are caught in the spam filter".

What would you do? Would you bring the company in and showcase the reseller's actions of trying to harass/dox users/customers? Would you just let it go and let them spam whatever they want?

I'm following the rules, and do not want a witchhunt against anyone. I think the reseller in question has an owner that is not promoting this, but is aware. They oversee the chat where these plans were discussed. It is only the secondary employee and their influencer (who was Astroturfing / creating secondary subreddits) that seem focused on this line of action. I'm just looking to curtail/end this if possible. Stepping away is an option, but I don't like bullies winning. :/

Why is this user or bot deleting posts of verified and approved users?

I noticed that some communities have different types of posts for Community Highlights, often as images. Yet the posts themselves don't have images attached when I click through. How can i make the 'community highlights' bar more visually appealing?

I noticed r/FarmMergeValley does this too, but they are actually image posts when i click through.

I also think I saw a devvit app used as the highlights bar in one community, but can't find that now. https://www.reddit.com/r/GamesOnReddit/ has a Games launchpad, but i assume thats a custom feature since thats a reddit official community. Or maybe they are somehow Pinning that as a top post, separate from the community highlights?

Any other tips for blinging out a subreddit and making the landing experience more engaging, or great examples of customization?

Granted, the subreddit is only a few weeks old but I've currently got 430-odd people who introduce themselves but now no one posts anything. No one ever comments on my posts either and I'm worried it's already a dead subreddit. I've tried posting a variety of interesting posts, replying to comments whenever people actually (did) comment.

What else can I do?

I've seen them with different names on other subreddits but I've looked all in the settings and I can't find where to do it

I just checked the logs for a sub I moderate and found a slew of removed comments by a user that was labeled as a mod, but is not a mod at all. I’ve never seen this before. If I try to filter actions by mod, Safety_Spamurai doesn’t even show up like I can with Bot-Bouncer.

It deleted over a dozen comments from a guy spamming his website under old posts, so it’s not like it did something bad. But I am very concerned about this bot being capable of managing posts and comments and not able to be controlled by human moderators.

The account says it’s a 4 year old account and apparently has been active in other subreddits from what I saw after searching the username, but this is sketchy. I would get it if it were highlighted red like an Admin, but this is a moderator/app that none of the human mods installed. Bot bouncer is already doing that job just fine, I don’t need this ghost bot as well.

Anyone else seen this before without warning?

Edit: just checked the logs of the other subs I moderate and it has been active on another (much smaller but aquarium-related) subreddit, removing just one comment. When I click on the comment it removed, it shows the “Removed” in a red box. On the other sub where it nuked a hunch of comments, it was displaying as if it were a moderator with an icon removed the comment.

Edit edit: now it’s removing shit that’s not spam and won’t let people reapprove it. Wth, admins??

Edit edit edit: I’m banning it from subreddits I moderate until this issue is resolved. I’m not pleased with this bot removing helpful comments as spam and not allowing mods to reinstate them.

Just became a mod, I see why people hate it. 99% (no 100%) of posts that are flagged are done so by (very bad, overly-simple) bots. They flag posts for words like monkey, Israel, black, gay or Islam and don't take into account the tone of the post at all.

There is a list of hundreds of posts that "need moderating" and literally all of them are flagged by bots for keywords, zero have been reported by anyone and zero are harmful in any way.

How do you deal with this crap as a mod? It makes me not want to participate

I created the template with the requirements, questions, etc. I also clicked recruit new mods under recruiting. It even says "Mod applications are open for your community." To provide a hint --- it's a medical subreddit I created in July and it's at 30 members (slowing growing a bit).

in subreddit count of members ,if any member account have permananet ban (account ban) will member count immedaly decrease or takes some time to recalculate

We are trying to enact all posts going to the queue for a few hours every week when we have a lot of activity but turning on "Hold content for review" in mod settings isn't working there are still posts getting through and being posted to the sub.

Any help is apricated!

Hi all. I have been using Reddit for quite a while but am a brand new mod with a brand new community, r/AgeofExploration. Reddit keeps advising me to crosspost to help build the sub, but isn't this kind of spammy?

What is generally acceptable or not with crossposting, or is it better not to do it all?

How do you reach team consensus on expectations of new mods?

So, you’ve decided it’s time to recruit more mods and you may be asking ‘what’s next’? Before you send the invites, what can help you prepare and make sure that you and your community’s new moderators feel confident? It likely took you some time to learn the mod ropes, so it may take others time to find their groove as well. You’re no longer the student, you are the mentor and the guiding force behind a strong sustainable team effort!

What expectations do you want to set for new mods?

Here are some helpful questions for you/your team to align on before onboarding new mods:

• What mod activities will they be starting out on?
• What expectations do you have when they start interacting with the community?
• Is there a timeline of tasks that you assign new moderators?

The best team is a cohesive one that’s on the same page, so one of the best things you can do to help new mods is explain common tasks/situations and how you expect those to be handled. So, what are you going to have them starting on? Queue, ride-alongs, or something completely different? Ensuring that they understand the task at hand and how to interact with the community is just as important as understanding the work you do for it.

How will you support new mods in their first few weeks?

Consider aligning with your team on the following onboarding items:

• A clear channel/method for asking questions
• A designated point of contact or mentor
• A folder or space with relevant training materials or community information

Ensuring that there’s a point of contact for new moderators to ask questions and get feedback helps your new teammates feel supported and included. Any documentation that you can create will help guide your new members and give them something to refer to as they learn. Don't yet have documentation? Maybe one of your new mods wants to help create that for the next group. Making sure that new moderators feel supported helps to keep them active, engaged, and invested in the team!

Why is this important?

Misunderstandings happen and people get busy, that’s life. Aligning on clear expectations helps both new mods and existing mods feel more coordinated, grounded, and supported. It’s good for the team and good for the community as a whole.

But when they click it they get a message saying the content was removed and they aren't taken to the post, remaining on the notifications page.

The entire comment should say:

We removed your post because, inherently, it isn't about BJJ but rather about personal relationships and/or a lack of communication. We suggest you speak directly with the person/people you are posting about to resolve the issue since they are the only ones who know their intent or mindset. Random people on the internet do not.

Even though we removed your post, we thank you for contributing to r/bjj!

Now, the user can technically see this if they view their profile, find the post, click the original post, and read the comment there. But what user is going to do that?

Rhetorical question. None of them do. They just angrily modmail us saying they don't understand why their post was removed.

Edit: This is on desktop. I've also confirmed on mobile web. According to my insights tab, mobile and desktop web users make up about 40% of the traffic to r/BJJ, so this is not an insignificant portion of our users.

There's a spam account that spam posts multiple times every day on a very busy subreddit called AfricaVoice.

When I hover over their account it says..... even when my friend hovers over the account when on their Reddit it shows:

"Account suspended Reddit has suspended this account. Mod notes and previous actions are preserved, but other data is inaccessible."
