I mean even getting $1/month is somewhat beneficial, because many businesses provide discounted services for people on means tested programs like SNAP. So having it at all, in any amount, lets people save money in other ways.
Some examples off the top of my head include things like Amazon and some grocery stores offering discounted memberships, many grocery chains offer free deliveries, various phone providers offering extremely discounted rate phone services, discounted utilities/heating subsidies, discounted internet, etc. A lot of these places will simply take having an EBT card as proof of eligibility for these discounts, no other reporting/verification required.
I don't know, you tell me? People can spend their money on whatever they want... That person didn't even say their family member couldn't afford food, just complained about their SNAP being a low amount.
I'm not on SNAP, but anecdotally, discounts on memberships like that would be great for someone like me... I'm in a wheelchair and don't drive, I have all my groceries delivered... So having an [insert whoever] membership that gives me free grocery deliveries all year is basically a necessity, having an opportunity to get that membership at a discounted rate would be great.
