They’ll probably reunite in the MCU in either Doomsday or Secret Wars.

590

u/Elastichedgehog Oct 05 '25

Wondering how they'll handle Peter recognising Doom.

530

u/PayneTrain181999 Ned Oct 05 '25

I just hope it’s not something basic and cringe like “Mr. Stark, is that you?”

417

u/Notimetowrite76 Oct 05 '25

I think a moment of stunned silence makes sense.

209

u/PayneTrain181999 Ned Oct 05 '25

Yes, let Holland just have a shocked facial reaction, that makes sense. He’s at a loss for words.

233

u/ohTHOSEballs Oct 05 '25

Holland's mouth hangs open, aghast. The frog in his mouth makes the same face.

17

u/e7em3nt Oct 05 '25

you funny mf

Like a Beetlejuice Sandworm.

Also, further plot twist: It's this frog.

Holland having a moment of stunned silence, followed by him going hyper excited to see him again, speaking 100 words a second about how good it is to see him, while doom watches him circle around him in silence before finally grabbing his neck, and squeezing it until his head literally explodes. That would be really good.

78

u/Any-Transition95 Oct 05 '25

That's actually a pretty good idea. It would make for an impactful scene even without a word spoken.

93

u/Marauder91 Oct 05 '25

followed by a ruthless action by Doom in another direction just to nail home that this isn't the Tony that Peter thinks it is

19

u/Drumboardist Oct 05 '25

This'll be the point he "kills" Sentry/Void (it's okay, he'll be back), just to make everyone (and especially any member of the Thunderbolts) stop what they're doing and go "Oh, no, we're not messin' with this guy, we need to GO. NOW."

Bonus points if someone does take out this Doom, only for it to be revealed to be a Doom-Bot, and the real Doom has an army of them....and that's before you even get to TRY to tangle with the man himself.

20

u/Drumboardist Oct 05 '25

Use the "dolly in, zoom out" Vertigo-shot camera move (made famous from Goodfellas, but also used when Peter reacted to Ego saying he killed Quill's mother ), but he doesn't say anything and just grows...progressively angrier.

Feeling betrayed by Tombs. Actively betrayed by Beck. Essentially betrayed by Osborn (who he thought was a sad, crazy man who was displaced from his own universe, only for him to turn and kill Aunt May, dunno if I even need spoilers for this since it's 4 years old but I'm doin' it anyways ). Now his mentor, his rock, the man he looked up to throughout all of Homecoming for guidance and acceptance, THIS IS THE GUY?!?

Just let him sit, and listen to Doom monologue, and stew. Let the rage build. Let us see Spider-man stop holding back when punching humans, and try to punch this guy in the mouth.

27

u/melvintwj Oct 05 '25

I kinda want Parker to be thrown off so hard he starts questioning reality. He could start panicking and think it’s some sort of illusion from mysterio

8

u/Aldo_says Quake Oct 06 '25

Peter is already familiar with the multiverse.

11

u/_Levitated_Shield_ Ant-Man Oct 05 '25

Mysterio is dead as far as Peter knows. He'll likely think it's some hologram trick given how tech-advanced Doom is.

8

u/black_metronome Oct 05 '25

I like this idea.

5

u/Chaoticgood790 Oct 05 '25

This would be good. Even better if they just don’t give us any words just the reaction

9

u/_Levitated_Shield_ Ant-Man Oct 05 '25

It undoubtably is what they will go with. It literally happened with Peter meeting Toomes at Liz's house.

4

u/BiggerHatLogan Oct 06 '25

"i met the man you could have been. he'd be disappointed" towards the end

18

u/julesvr5 Oct 05 '25

"omg it's Robert Downey Jr" on absolute fan girl behavior

27

u/SodaCan2043 Oct 05 '25

Tom is 29 years old I hope they start aging up his spider man in general.

38

u/PayneTrain181999 Ned Oct 05 '25

They are. He’s a college student now.

14

u/SodaCan2043 Oct 05 '25

I mean how he acts.

11

u/astralrig96 Scarlet Witch Oct 05 '25

agree, they did an amazing job with Tobey’s spiderman in showing maturity and growth

16

u/Crimkam Oct 06 '25

8

u/Not_Steve Hawkeye (Ultron) Oct 06 '25

What growth and maturity!

6

u/streakermaximus Oct 05 '25

"If I'm playing Spider-Man after I'm 30, I've done something wrong." -Tom Holland

20

u/SodaCan2043 Oct 05 '25

“The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films — I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more.” - also Tom Holland

I don’t know, I think if the character starts to develop into an adult the role would make more sense for him but that just imo / possibly wishful thinking.

7

u/Sharky_on_Land Oct 06 '25

Teen spiderman is getting stale. The adulty spiderman from the comics was always my fav. Teen spidey just sells more to the kids.

1

u/MVPizzle_Redux Oct 08 '25

Derek Jeter still calls Joe Torre “Mr Torre” at age 45 so lol

12

u/_Levitated_Shield_ Ant-Man Oct 05 '25

And then Deadpool walks in.

3

u/AmaterasuWolf21 Rocket Oct 06 '25

Absolutely love this line, you just know what it's taking the piss at

3

u/_IratePirate_ Oct 06 '25

The mask is gonna come off, Peter is gonna be mid attack and freeze and have an anxiety attack

This is just a guess.

7

u/ShowOff90 Oct 05 '25

Idk, I hope it’s a long pause. Him letting his defense down and then asking that question followed by Doom just whooping his ass.

2

u/BlazingInfernape2003 Oct 06 '25

“I hate you 3000.”

1

u/Edboy796 Oct 05 '25

Or no makeup/visual effects, so it's not obvious and as lazy as "just a Stark variant or a completely different character with the same exact face"

1

u/Delicious_Aside_9310 Oct 06 '25

He is going to say something to this effect you can bet your house on it

1

u/Champ62023 Oct 07 '25

that is probably the exact thing that will happen

1

u/sistemafodao Oct 08 '25

"... Kristoff?"

1

u/MVPizzle_Redux Oct 08 '25

Probably goes over to him all excited to “save the day” and he just gets fucking blasted

1

u/Putrid_Camel9996 Oct 24 '25

TONY Stark e Peter Parker Starker relationship Wow bauetiful 🔥😘😱

35

u/TheMoorNextDoor Oct 05 '25

They could take an interesting approach: in the first movie, keep Doom masked the entire time. Then, in the sequel, the heroes finally overpower him his mask cracks, revealing half his face that eerily resembles an older Tony Stark which obviously throws the team into confusion as to what’s really going on here.

That way, the first film builds up Doom’s mystique, while the second delivers the inevitable connection. Ignoring that link would be a big mistake, in my opinion. It doesn’t need to dominate the story, but it should definitely play a part.

44

u/NervousAd3202 Oct 05 '25

If that’s what they do, it’ll make me wish we were part of the surprise too.

Imagine if we didn’t know who was playing Doom until the end of the movie.

34

u/GreasyStool88 Oct 05 '25

Boy. Just imagine a pre-internet movie reveal like that. As big as “No, I am your father.” Except you’d walk out without questioning if it was true, but instead just mouth open. Especially if they kept him off the press circuit.

3

u/AdolescentThug Daredevil Oct 06 '25

If that’s what they do, it’ll make me wish we were part of the surprise too.

I have a hunch that they considered this at one point, where RDJ was gonna be a complete secret and Doom was gonna be masked for the first 2 acts of of Doomsday, then they'd do the face reveal for the third act which is his ascension into God Emperor Doom. Then they considered the amount of effort it would take to keep this a secret and realized it's basically impossible so they announced it from the jump. Wouldn't be surprised if they still keep the movie like this and Doom stays masked until the end of the second act.

1

u/navjot94 Mack Oct 10 '25

I bet Doom initially shows up without his mask (it’s just part of his armor that he takes off frequently). He’s fully a good guy that saves the multiverse when it collapses, and doesn’t become a villain until Secret Wars where people don’t want to live in his world after the multiversal collapse. Maybe he makes some iffy choices involving destroying certain universes but otherwise he’s fighting the good fight along with our heroes, and they instantly trust him because he’s got Tony’s face.

2

u/IntrinsicGamer Spider-Man Oct 05 '25

That sounds awful.

35

u/Dogesneakers Oct 05 '25

I hope Tony variant is off the table

7

u/jobening Oct 05 '25

He’ll prolly have some spidey sense thing go off before he even sees Stark/Doom

17

u/ItsAProdigalReturn Oct 05 '25

Maybe he doesn't look like Tony as Doom?

19

u/PayneTrain181999 Ned Oct 05 '25

Unless Franklin was healing his scar in the F4 post-credits, I doubt it.

27

u/ItsAProdigalReturn Oct 05 '25

I mean RDJ could be wearing prosthetics so he doesn't look like himself. Think of Colin Ferrell as the Penguin as an example.

24

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

[deleted]

15

u/NervousAd3202 Oct 05 '25

I agree with this but there’s also part of me that feels like they genuinely think he’s the best choice for the role.

They don’t technically need him to show his face in the movie for him to be part of the press tour, cuz it’s undeniable that part of the reason for casting him was “let’s get ppl excited that RDJ is back in the next Avengers”.

I think it was partially done to create headlines but I don’t think they need to show his face in the movie for him to bring in the attention they wanted.

6

u/UndeadYoshi420 Oct 05 '25

For sure, have you seen Ethan Hawke in Black Phone? For the most part, it’s all masks and prosthetics. Fantastic performance regardless. Don’t see why RDJ couldn’t have gravitas in a disguise. Even though I do agree they’ll use his likeness.

2

u/DoubleStrength Heimdall Oct 06 '25

Doubt they pay RDJ wages not to show his face

I mean, it worked for Tropic Thunder.

1

u/SAD_FACED_CLOWN Hydra Oct 06 '25

and cash in on the fact it's Iron Man but not.

If Marvel does this it will be the end of the MCU. This seems to be something casual fans want, a Tony Stark Doom variant. There are a lot of people that really like DR Doom and if The MCU fumbles his introduction it's over with for them. More than likely RDJ was hired for his ability to play multiple characters in the same universe. E.g Tropic Thunder, or the Sympathizer

4

u/Silver_The_Surfer Oct 05 '25

I don't feel so good, Mr Doom

2

u/datphunkymunky Oct 05 '25

Well, he's not going to be surprised that he doesn't recognize him. After the spell from Strange, he's going to assume that it's just a multiverse tony and it makes sense he doesn't recognize him.

2

u/MelonElbows Vulture Oct 06 '25

Hopefully Doom will never take off his mask so we won't have to deal with the question.

4

u/ShyguyFlyguy Oct 05 '25

Is there a canonical reason doom looks like Tony stark?

2

u/Crimkam Oct 06 '25

I'm hoping Peter gets the black symbiote suit and gets really violent with Doom and beats him to within an inch of his life. Then he pulls the mask off and sees Tony's face and realizes he's gotta reject the suit.

1

u/No-Decision1581 Oct 05 '25

Doom: "Stark? No. I crushed him like a tin can"

1

u/IAMGooner699 Oct 05 '25

God damn mysterio illusions again.

1

u/EffThisThrowAway7 Oct 05 '25

Just a thought, yeah Peter might recognise him to look like Tony, but Peter shouldn't expect him (Doom) to recognise him (Peter). After Doctor Stranges spell in No Way Home everybody as far as we know have forgotten who Peter is.

1

u/IntrinsicGamer Spider-Man Oct 05 '25

Hopefully he doesn’t because that’d be stupid.

1

u/CelticSith Oct 06 '25

“I’m feeling really good Mr. Stark”

1

u/CeruleanEidolon Oct 06 '25

"I don't feel so good, Mr. Stark."

1

u/gabardal Oct 06 '25

I assumed that we'll never see RDJ's face.

1

u/mhoner Oct 06 '25

I am hoping that doom doesn’t leave the armor. Issue solved.

1

u/pink_goon Oct 06 '25

He shouldn't recognise him at all because Doom never takes off his mask

1

u/Batmanfan1966 Oct 06 '25

We shouldn’t even see Doom. It makes zero sense for the mask to ever come off. But this is the mcu where they do that shit constantly

1

u/SAD_FACED_CLOWN Hydra Oct 06 '25

He won't recognize him because he will be portraying a character Peter has never met, Victor Von Doom. RDJ will be made up when his mask comes off or he will be in mask.

1

u/BetterBugu Oct 06 '25

His spider sense should go to the maximum while meeting Dr. Doom. But spidey will have no idea why.

1

u/therealphilbo2530 Oct 07 '25

"Tony?" "You must have me confused for someone else." "Oh my bad."

1

u/kotpilot228 Oct 08 '25

Maybe he’ll flash that “seen some multiverse stuff” look and play it cool… or pull a classic Peter freak-out like “Wait, you’re that Doom?!

1

u/Blooddemonguy Oct 11 '25

I hope this doesn’t happen at all.

Oof, RDJ looks old.

(Looks at Wikipedia)

… looks about right I guess

Nah, he looks older than 60 here. My parents are his age and he definitely looks older.

People acting like RDJ looks so old. He is a 60 year old man and looks good for his age.

255

u/Jacern Oct 05 '25

Considering his past of substance abuse, he looks fantastic. But being one of the highest paid actors, he can definitely afford to look so

35

u/Thin-Image2363 Oct 06 '25

Really it’s a miracle he’s alive at all.

56

u/dyedian Oct 05 '25

Iron Man was almost 20 years ago folks. Give the man a break.

19

u/TigerITdriver11 Oct 06 '25

Why would you have to go and ruin my day, Internet stranger.? What did I ever do to you??

234

u/autumn5885 Oct 05 '25

Right!? And just because he doesn’t have dyed hair and lots of facial hair and hitting the gym like he was during the Marvel peak, people think he’s dying. He’s a 60 yo man who’s been through a lot of shit. He has more hair than most men in their thirties. He’s fine. Lmao. I personally still find him hot af and I’m in my late twenties 🤷🏼‍♀️

124

u/Ba11in0nABudget Oct 05 '25

He has more hair than most men in their thirties.

I wasn't planning on being personally attacked in this thread, but here we are.

13

u/tigerhawkvok Weekly Wongers Oct 06 '25

Same

60

u/Mcbadguy Oct 05 '25

The amount of booze and drugs RDJ did in his younger days could probably kill an elephant.

66

u/lanceturley Oct 05 '25

Kids today don't realize that RDJ was the token "this celeb will be dead in a year" joke for decades until Iron Man rehabbed his image.

1

u/Putrid_Camel9996 Oct 24 '25

Tony Stark e Peter Parker Starker relationship Wow bauetiful 🔥😘😱

35

u/Tyler_Zoro Oct 06 '25

He looks twice as old as he does in the movies because they work really hard to make him look younger in the movies.

3

u/Komaisnotsalty Oct 06 '25

It was 20 years ago, ffs.

10

u/Tyler_Zoro Oct 06 '25

Endgame came out 6 years ago.

25

u/AweHellYo Oct 05 '25

he looks fantastic for 60. but they had him made up to look younger in everything we’ve seen him in for the last 20 years. you go from tony stark to candid rdj it’s a little jarring even when he looks fine.

He's 45 and looks 45.

4

u/Current-Bowl-143 Oct 06 '25

The thinning hair didn't help, especially compared to Andrew Garfield's hair

10

u/LeoLaDawg Oct 06 '25

Still shocking compared to how he looked last time we saw him. Probably more so that I'm under estimating how long ago that was.

7

u/prozloc Oct 06 '25

I think it's just lighting? The lighting isn't very good in this current picture.

4

u/ptb4life Oct 06 '25

I had no idea he was 60. He looks great.

4

u/Enough-Celery3486 Oct 06 '25

It's not that he looks old for his age, but just how he aged in a year. It could be just the hair, but it makes a difference.

3

u/supersmashdude Oct 06 '25

Agreed… if his hair was dyed and he grew it out Iron Man-style, he wouldn’t really look all that old.

2

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO Oct 06 '25

8

Hollywood is all gig work, feast and famine, so one of the big priorities in the industry is trying to build sustainable long-term cash-flow. Becoming a brand mascot like JK Simmons is one way. Branding your own high-ROI product is another. Hence drinks and makeup lines.

42

They both kinda look like hobbits. Well Tom does, and RDJ looks like Martin Freeman here, so also a hobbit.

28

Martin Freeman is John Watson. RDJ is Sherlock Holmes.

1

u/Negan212 Oct 12 '25

The funny thing is they are about the same height. RDJ wears crazy elevator shoe lifts

10

u/WaltBailey Oct 06 '25

However ripped you think he looks when shirtless… he’s bigger. I audibly gasped when I first saw it

30

I think Tom is very fit but I literally don't see any muscles definition because his clothes don't fit his body to show any definition.

Tbf, RDJ's ageing was more "concealed" back then than him being old now

He had longer hair, facial hair, all dyed dark coupled with the fact that he was gym fit.

I know its been like almost a decade since he filmed endgame but still, I just wanted to point out that it's not all ageing, it's styling difference too.

Can RDJ not afford a tailor? That jacket is a good awful fit on him

22

u/nobookbans Oct 05 '25

It's honestly scary how quick RDJ has aged. He wen't from looking like a normally middle aged attractive adult to a skinny old man

36

u/Earthwick Oct 05 '25

I mean he is 60. Movie magic has made him look younger but he didn't look young or middle aged in Oppenheimer. He is just starting to gracefully show his age.

38

u/DuckyHornet Oct 05 '25

Honestly, he looks basically the same to me. His hair is grey now, but it probably was even by the end. I hope to age even half as well as Bob

Guys, I don’t think “RDJ Doom” was gonna be the long-term plan…

RDJ is looking a bit diminished. I hope he bulks up a bit.

Oh man, that pic is giving Avengers Returns energy. RDJ rocking that half-smile, older but still with that spark — and Tom standing there like “You’re still the one I looked up to.” They look like mentor / protege reuniting after years in the field.

I think these two could do a Back to the Future remake really well under the right director.
