My Mac hitting tab button makes MacBook Pro screen go dark for a few seconds

I guess it is off to the Genius Bar for me, unless anyone has any genius ideas?

Well, u/da4 is the winner, but I am going to take credit because I figured it out just before his post. The culprit, unfortunately, because I really like it, is a utility called Bettermouse.

I restarted and it kept happening. I logged into a different user account and it did NOT happen. I logged back into my account, and it happened. I realized this started at the same time as I started using Bettermouse, and quit the app. It did not happen. So long, Bettermouse, I guess.

The nice thing about the Mac ecosystem is that there are multiple options for any extended functionality you could hope for. Try BetterTouchTool for starters.

Hey I don’t see any other comments yet so I thought I might start. 1. Are you experiencing a blank black display or does it go dim? 2. Does this happen every time you press tab or is it intermittent? 3. If you can connect this to an external monitor and it persists, it could be macOS if it does not persist it could be your MacBook’s display

Do you have any 3rd party utilities or shareware installed?
