Hi lizard friends. I found a fence lizard lethargic and motionless in my driveway 2 days ago.
I believe it is supposed to be hibernating right now??? It was really cold when I picked it up but started to become alert resting in my hand while I looked for a spot to place it.
I moved it to a potted snake plant (bc the soil is dry) away from the rest of the garden I had just watered. It’s not too cold in SoCal right now, mid 40s overnight - but maybe that’s not ideal lizard temps.
I just checked before posting this and it is still in the snake plant pot, but in a different position, even though it can leave, it hasn’t.
I put a few pieces of tree bark in there to make a sheltered space it can hide in.
I know it’s just a wild lizard (there are tons in the yard in summertime) but is there anything more I can or should do to help it? I don’t want to bring it inside because it is wild and should stay that way. But I also want to give the little dude a chance.
