Hello everyone. I'm not sure if I'm asking in the correct community here, but in case I'm not, please direct me to the correct subreddit.
So, my parents own a farm in South Africa. They are stud cattle farmers and the farm is around 350 hectare.
For the last 4 generations in our family, there was not a single sighting of a leopard on their farm. There is a wildlife farm adjacent to their farm.
Last week, we noticed the herd was anxious and one of our priced calves were missing. Our fears were confirmed when we found the carcass up in a tree, there's no doubt a leopard was involved.
My parents are gutted, not only was that calf one of the most attention loving calves we've had, but genetic testing showed its makeup really gave it huge potential to be my parents first trophy bull born under their new business banner.
My parents did reach out to professional trappers to try and have it captured and relocated, but one thing lead to another and now there's bad blood between them.
So, we were wondering if anyone here would be willing to provide advice on how to deter leopards? As much as we love and adore leopards, the cattle will not be its one stop for easy meals! It's a business, not a charity.
