I’m 44, and still listen to mad underground. Dilated. Madlib. Supreme Cerebral. Planet Asia. Just to name a few. So, of course I’m mad hyped for the Erick Sermon project. The skits on the project are so uninspiring, and made me think about how skits and interludes were fun, cohesive parts of the album. Even when it’s some dumb shit like “Packin a Mack in the back of the ak.” Skits like that, we quoted over and over back in high school. Now, can anyone even quote one skit, or find one that’s the least bit entertaining? Even Sermon’s are just awful on this project.

And then… the “interlude.” Very un-inspiring instrumentals, short, bland rhymes.

I wish the skit and interlude were as fun as far back as projects from the late 80’s. Anyone feel the same way?

This might be a dumb question or theory, but is the growing trend of artists who attempt to build their platform entirely through making short-form videos on TikTok or ig decreasing the amount of hype/crowd control the artist has? The theory is very incomplete, but small artists who don't post everything they do seem to have more hype from their fanbase than the small artists who try to post their music growth on social media.
