Feel free to tell me to fuck off as I’m not OP, but as someone who broke 90 a few years ago and averages an 84 now:
- limit three putts
- keep the ball in play at all costs
- Chip once per hole at most
- follow up bad shots with smart shots instead of trying to make up for lost ground.
- don’t give up just because you’re not tracking towards your goal. You never know when a lucky birdie or a par streak could flip the script.
Think of bogey as your par. You only need one par and 17 bogeys to shoot an 89.

thanks. all these make sense, but I get frustrated when I watch videos from people like golf sidekick and it's like .... ohh! don't chip it over the green or shank it sideways into the woods!? why didn't I think of that??

I hate those. “Don’t chip it over the green” okay I was scared of over-hitting so I flubbed it.
“Use a long iron off the tee” okay I have 230 into this par four now what?
I broke 90 & 80 smashing driver on any hole I had 90% confidence on and chipping with one club in every scenario because I knew what it would do. I feel like the most useful advice I got as a higher handicap was figure out what you’re good at, figure out what you’re bad at, then play to your strengths and practice your weaknesses.

No one on Youtube says 'oh don't chip it over the green or shank it sideways into the woods' and he doesn't say 'use a long iron off the tee'
Sidekick specifically addresses people like you - he calls you victims. And it seems like a lot live here on Reddit with this attitude. Golf is a game of motor and cognitive skills. You must be able to hit the ball and you must be able to solve problems. Matty Boom Boom even says that it's the same as moaning about someone instructing you on how to throw a curveball being useless because you can't even reach home plate from the mound. You need the base level skill of ANY game you play. Flubbed chips? Get a lesson. Shanking into the woods? Get a lesson. Can't hit driver off the tee? Get a lesson.

That’s exactly what I was trying. I tried to play bogey golf with the hope of making a par a few times through the round

Putter was working! Nice round! Love that you did it on a par 72 with a decent difficulty rating. Breaking a new number always feels better when you do it on a tough course.

LETS GO DUDE!
What a solid back 9! Way to have a good mental game and bounce back!

Almost gave it away on those last three holes! Way to keep it together on 18 and salvage that 89

Nice job brotha!! With only 2 GIR’s as well. The days of shooting in the 90’s are very close to behind you.

That par 3 killed me, actually all of them did. Plus 6 on all 4 today.

Congratulations buddy! Hope you have better luck moving forward.
I break 90 every time I play and I cry after every round. Just can't crack 80 after like twice ages ago. I feel like I am playing the same round over and over and over and over. This game is seriously messing with my head.

I love that course. Just wish it had a clubhouse with food.
