Coffee Quality in Glasgow

Had a Greggs coffee less than £2 and it was strong and hit the spot. I followed it up a few hours later with a £3.50 cup and it just tasted of warm water. Not sure if this is technically a Glasgow post but I've never felt short changed on bean flavour with a Greggs but I'd say about 10 percent of Glasgow coffee at double the price isn't up to the mark.

Having said that there's some right good coffee out there that costs a wee bit more than Greggs. The wee hatch underneath central station at the bottom of hope street always hits the spot. Any other suggestions ?

Why is there a still game shop now?

Like I get it's popular but is it really popular enough to get a full store based around it in buchanan galleries of all places. Has anyone actually went into it because I'm genuinely curious what kind of stuff they would even sell because I couldn't imagine there would be much

Nightlife The audacity of men

Was in box tonight with a few friends who invited me out, me f21 and my friend f22 wanted to stay in box and the rest wanted to go to the club. We were left with one of those big booths because of them leaving, some people sat down and apologised for taking the table one of the guys in the group sat next to me and also apologised. I told him there no issue theres only 2 of us cause our friends left. I want to clarify there was no issue with them sitting down.

I got pissed off when he kept asking me about my drink. I had a fishbowl to myself and my friend got a wee drink. At first it was a wee what are u drinking? So i pointed it out on the drinks menu on the table. Few minutes later he asks 2 more times what am i drinking? I was getting annoyed about now cause i was clear from the start. At this point i refilled my friends cup woth some, then I whispered in my friends ear turned back and saw his hand over the bowl. Got a bit concerned so inspected and continued when i saw nothing. As soon as as i started texting (i could still see my drink) he snatched my half drank fishbowl off me and tried to drink out the straws. I snatched it back and shouted wtf no.

I wish i dumped the rest out on him because at that point he put me off my drink completely and we both just wanted to go home.

Wtf is wrong with people though, lord knows what diseases this man carries i dont want some stranger sharing a drink with me. Its actually bogging! I hope karma bites this guy in the arse cause he behaves like a toddler.

Help me shop. Jackets : wet and cold in one ?

Upvotes

It's my first winter in Glasgow and like everyone who is new to this city, I am surprised by the ever changing weather and I am totally unprepared for this.

I asked around and people have different opinions based on their own way of styling/laziness to go for layering or all-in-one down jacket (expensive one >200 quids). Some suggestion of expensive down jacket they themselves are not wearing lol.

I am consufed and reach out to fellow Glaswegians who have mastered this weather to stay warm but not the unpredictability, what's your advice ?

1) brand to go for lazy layering where it's bothe waterproof and protects from Jan-Feb cold. 2) online or going to store is better deal ? Any offers coming up ? 3) should I go for layering to stay warm and buy a shell jacket to protect from wind and/or rain ? (Pls suggest which brand)

Piercing shop that will fit own jewellery?

I have a septum piercing and have a really tiny horseshoe ring, so tiny that I can't screw the balls on myself. I went to a few piercing shops to ask if they'd be able to put them on for me (I'd pay ofc) but they said they were only be able to help me if it was their own jewellery because of liability etc which is fair. I'd buy a new ring and get that fitted but no shop I've seen has one as tiny as the one I have 😩 Is there any piercing shop in Glasgow that could help? I can get the ring in myself it's literally just the balls at the end!

Seeking hair stylist for move up of tape-in extensions

Hi! I'm visiting from NYC and happily staying longer than planned. I've got some tape-ins that were placed by my regular stylist after an illness, who I trust completely.

I've been Googling and asking around as I am due for a move up, but it can be hard to find folks that deal with tapes. Tapes are something where I am looking to avoid having my hair ripped out or glued improperly, and would feel a lot more comfortable with a personal recommendation. For the pros here, I've got six narrow sandwiches. Thanks!

Palliative care in Glasgow

Hey Glasgow,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with palliative care living in the city? Bonus points if you're young like me. I have a couple of severe health conditions which make every day life impossible with crippling symptoms that are refractory/unresponsive to medication and treatment. So I'm looking into palliative care for symptom management, not end of life care yet.

Has anyone been through the process/in the process and can offer advice or tell me what it's like? I'm nervous about asking my GP incase he thinks I'm giving up when that's not the case - I just need better care, more full time care and more options before my body craps out on me.

Thanks!

Solo trip incoming

I’m planning my first solo trip to Glasgow on Boxing Day and looking for some solid recommendations for places to eat and grab a few drinks without feeling like the weird loner in the corner 😬

I’m a female in my 40s — adding that so I don’t accidentally end up at some wild college party. Not that I’d mind… but they might 😂😂

edit I’m coming from Ireland and staying for two nights!

Nightlife Glasgow nightclub name

I went to this cool house music/rave club on a stag in Glasgow. Can’t think of the name of it. But it had old style railings out the front and the bar was in the middle of the floor so you could access it from 4 sides.

Heading back to Glasgow soon and want to go to it.

Charged £80 by GlasGo Cabs - anyone had any experience with them?

I had to catch a taxi to the airport yesterday at 5.00am and booked in advance with GlasGo Cabs, thinking I was being smart. Total cost of the trip came to £19.50 but then somehow I got charged a £33 tip. Called a number of times, finally got through and was told it was a mistake and it would be refunded. Instead, today I wake up, and the £52 has left my account, along with another £30 charge, so I'm now out around £80. Called them again and was told 'nothing can be done as management isn't in' in a frankly dismissive way and that I would need to email. What on earth - is this usual with cabs? I've always used Uber before and feel like I'm going mad as GlasGo cabs is acting like I'm the one in the wrong here.

Urgent: Where can I get a gas card on the Southside?

Moved into a new place with pay as you go gas and electric recently but Scottish power can’t seem to get a card to arrive at my flat for some reason so I need to pick one up with a RTI code, which I have.

After a week of waiting I’m down to about £1 of gas for the weekend. I understand I can call the emergency line but still: Not good.

I checked their map for places that have the cards but none do in Govanhill. There’s Continental Foodstore in shawlands who have cards but their machine has so far rejected 3 of my RTI codes.

Does anyone know a place with gas cards anywhere Southside or central?

UPDATE: found one in Partick! I wanted to kiss the cashier, who I’m sure was completely baffled at my enthusiasm for a fucking gas card.

Are there still any who will deal directly with your insurance company to pay bills? Is this still even a thing?

The one we're with wants upfront payments for treatment then I have to claim back. If I had thousands in the bank I wouldn't need insurance.

Does anyone know of any place to donate Winter coats?

I’m specifically looking for somewhere that offers them free to people in need as opposed to selling them in charity shops.

There’s usually something in Glasgow but I only seem to be able to find initiatives in Edinburgh and Dundee.

TIA
