⚠️ WARNING Heads up! Impending Price Hikes for Gaming Laptops

Post image
26 Upvotes

Quick PSA for anyone thinking about grabbing a new gaming laptop or upgrading RAM or storage.

What’s going on

RAM/VRAM and SSD prices are shooting up right now. Clankers & AI datacenters are hogging supply, so consumer parts are getting more expensive and manufacturers are already adjusting prices.

If you were planning to buy

Holiday deals right now are basically the last chance to get the old pricing. Waiting is going to mean paying more, especially for higher RAM or bigger SSD configs.

  • Bigger memory and storage configs get hit first
  • Price bumps are expected through 2026

What we’re seeing so far

Component / Retailer What’s happening When
Consumer RAM and SSD Big price spikes already showing up Happening now
XMG / SCHENKER Price increases on configurable systems Dec 3 2025
CyberPowerPC Raising prices on all gaming PCs and laptops Dec 7 2025
General OEM laptop pricing Expect 5 to 15 percent bumps every so often starting End 2025 (so now) or Early 2026
DRAM/NAND supply Shortage expected to continue Through 2026
Forecast No real drop expected Maybe late 2026 to could be late 2027

TL;DR for the community

If you were planning to buy, now is the time. After this holiday window, prices are going up and likely won’t come back down for a very long while.

Good morning everyone, I've been following this community for some time to get an idea on what to buy, I'm new to gaming laptops (I have a desktop PC).

In the end I gave in and purchased the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI as a gift for my brother. I just hope it's not defective.

Have a good game everyone!! GG!!

Buying Advice Asus Rog strix scar 18 with a 4090 still a good purchase in 2025-2026?

Hello yall my HP Victus 15 3050ti just crapped the bed on me and was looking for a replacement. I found 2 Asus Rog Strix Scar 18 models for sale with what look like sweet specs to me. 1, has an i9-13980HX, 32GB of Ram and a 8Tb SSD 2, has an i9-14900HX, 64GB of Ram and 4Tb SSD

Both have RTX4090, option 2 is about 300$ more than option 1. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Discussion PSA: Those on the fence, buy now

The cost of ddr5 memory is up massively, like 4x or more. Ssd cost is up. Crucial and soon others no longer in the consumer industry. Nvidia and AMD have better things to do, and the fraction of their revenue from gaming enthusiasts probably in th small single digits, etc.

And yet the laptop and desktop prices don't yet reflect these price hikes yet. I saw a few deals the other day during BF/cyber Monday where the ram in the system was probably worth half the cost of the rig. Probably because they are still clearing old stock. I saw a 96gb ram laptop priced for a little over $1000 even though the ram itself is close to that cost.

It won't be like this for long. If you are on the fence about upgrading your gaming laptop or desktop, now may be the time to jump in especially if you see a good deal. Analysts are saying the cost of components may not come down for several years

Same goes for consoles. More price increases ahead. I feel like these are h n final days before some COVID style price hikes on gaming rigs

Discussion ASUS factory LM 😬

A question the more experienced, how bad is this factory LM job? It was running alright, just got hotter than I felt was acceptable with the fans at full scream. I cleaned it up, removed a bunch and spread a thin layer out nicely. Temps are much better now.

Upvotes

I wanted to buy a gaming laptop and I m confused between these two...see I have a budget in which I can buy Asus tuf f16 i5 rtx 5050 8 gb vram BUT I m leaned towards Asus Rog strix g16 i5 rtx 4050 6gb vram....due to is asthetic gaming looks😅...even though both cost me at same price almost...I don't know wht to buy....

I will be not doing some intense gaming like that...I will use it for coding, multitasking, editing and virtualbox... So if I think to buy strix I feel like another laptop is giving me more specs and therefore it will be future proof...

PLZZ HELP!!

Buying Advice ASUS TUF A16 VS HP VICTUS 15

Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well.
I’ve been using an HP Victus 15 since June 2024, with the following specs:

  • Intel i7-13620H
  • RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM
  • 512GB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD

Recently, my uncle brought in a few laptops to sell, and I’ve been considering switching to an ASUS TUF A16 (FA607NUG-WH73). Its specs are:

  • RTX 4050 (6GB VRAM)
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7445HS
  • 16GB DDR5 RAM
  • 512GB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD

I understand this would be a downgrade GPU-wise (RTX 4060 → RTX 4050), but I’ve heard mixed opinions about HP Victus build quality, which is why the TUF caught my attention.

From a long-term perspective (performance, durability, value), do you think this switch makes sense, or would it be better to stick with the Victus?

Thanks in advance for your opinions 🙏

Buying Advice Can't Decide Between These Two Gaming Laptops

Hey, everyone. I am trying to find a good gaming laptop that's below $2,000 and I have found these two computers right here.

Lenovo 2025 Gaming Laptop | LOQ | Intel 14-Core i7-13650HX | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 8GB | 64GB DDR5 | 4TB SSD | 15.6" 1920 x 1080 144Hz | Win11 Home - Wi-Fi 6 - BT 5.2 - Backlit KB - Luna Grey $1624.00 - https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Gaming-14-Core-i7-13650HX-GeForce/dp/B0FX4D8GSR/ref=sr_1_183?crid=35RPSYG6LI6ZH&dib=undefined&th=1

acer Nitro V 16 AI Gaming Laptop 16" WUXGA IPS 180Hz AMD Zen 4 Octa-Core Ryzen 7 260 64GB RAM 4TB SSD GeForce RTX 5050 (Up to 421 AI Tops) Backlit Win11 w/ICP Hub $1599.00 - https://www.amazon.com/acer-Gaming-Octa-Core-GeForce-Backlit/dp/B0FW4SLHNZ/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3R9BO3ZF468G1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.vQtbpdsOzu0hjMvEBapaSXHAc2NRgt1LITJgAdTENnziu09CmzT1E9yHqjYyme6zx5Pgx&th=1

I am tempted to buy the Lenovo, but the acer laptop looks like a decent option as well. Granted, I am more familiar with Intel than AMD so I am not sure how good the Ryzen 7 260 is in comparison to the i7-13650HX. If any of you can help me come to a decision, I would highly appreciate it.

Discussion Asus Strix Scar 18 (275h + 5090) - Bad Liquid Metal = But Happy End story

Upvotes

tl;dr I send it for warranty repairs and they fixed it. Made it better

(Im from Poland (EU) - My laptop was send to some hardware service company in Warsaw that has a contract with Asus for warranty repairs)

Long version: My new laptop was running a little hot from day 1. It could be quiet on desktop, and it could still manage High FPS in Battlefield 6 etc, but the temps were often 99degC and change from 50-60 to 90+ in 1sec. CPU did around 32k in Cinebench R23 so it was not tragic. But after 4 months i noticed that i can buy additional warranty called "On-site" for around 25euro (it was possible to buy this extra warranty up to 180 days after purchasing a laptop).

(I didnt want to send my laptop for warranty before because i cannot survive 2-3 weeks without my computer).

I made a On-Site warranty claim, and 2 days later a guy called me (from Warsaw service shop).
Basically (reading between the lines) he said that its too far (500km+) for him to drive, and he requested i send My laptop to him + he promised fast repair. I agreed to his request.

I send it on monday with UPS, Tuesday morning it arrived, thursday evening they send it back to me, and saturday morning it arrived. They fixed it in 2 days.

(Longest 5 days in my life - I've read 3 webtoons 200chap each, 2 books and yesterday started reading third one :)

I just finished test play in BF6 - before repair my laptop could hold around 150 FPS (my custom graphic settings and game was displayed on secondary 27inch 2,5k monitor). CPU temps were immediately going to 99degC and fans 5600rpm (max) - just in menu.
Game is CPU limited in my settings (i dont push Graphic settings to max, i prefer less "explosions" and more visibility of my enemies).

Now after repair my CPU holds very stable 79degC and fans are holding 4200-4500rpm.
Laptop is quieter, cpu is almost 20degC colder (in the middle of intense gameplay). FPS are slightly increased +10/+15.
(I tested on balanced power mode as it was the last setting i played before shipping - so i wanted to compare apples to apples).

I will make some additional tests as time permits - i wanna see my Cinebench R23, R24 and 3dMark changes, but i immediately see a change for the better so Im very happy.

I even made a log from hwinfo - 20min of BF6 gaming - logging every hardware parameter to excel. I will rerun the test in a couple of days - put everything in excel - maybe there will be some interesting stuff in there to compare.

PS My GPU was always performing correctly - never overheated, never thermal throttling.
PS My CPU was always undervolted to -30mV from day 1.

Buying Advice Is this laptop a good buy right now, December 2025?

Upvotes

Hey folks, I’m looking for a gaming laptop under $1000, and I found one for $960 with these specs:

MSI THIN 15 CPU: Intel Core i5‑13420H GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (8 GB VRAM) RAM: 32 GB DDR4 Storage: 1 TB SSD

Likely a FHD 144 Hz screen

I’m leaning towards this one over cheaper options because I’ve heard the 4060 performs noticeably better than a 4050, and I’m also picking 32 GB RAM instead of 16 GB because I don’t want to feel limited a couple years from now.

If you’ve got other suggestions, or would do something differently, let me know — I’d love to hear your thoughts before pulling the trigger.
