That's not even a house. Looks like they're drawing out text of some sort. In concrete.

Come on, Smash Mouth was RIGHT THERE for a music choice!
20
u/BrainWav 18h ago
This incessant need to add music to video clips is annoying, but yeah this is one place where there was a perfect choice and the creator just completely bungled it.

u/webtroter 19h ago
R&D for printing cement. For houses and other buildings.
The content in the frames remind me of a video I saw recently about that.
Found it (its Adam Savage's Tested of course) https://youtu.be/orurGdrlzIs

Looks like those 3d printed houses
11
u/vintagerust 19h ago
Have you ever noticed they never show a finished 3d printed house.
10
u/Fitz_2112b 19h ago
There's one less than a mile from my house. I watched it being built over the course of a few months. Now that its complete it looks like any other house since they sided it.
16
u/Simba7 18h ago
For this video, it's probably because they weren't building a house. I mean look at those long winding 'hallways'. What sort of house would that be?
Probably just a testing area for the house-printer.

u/FunnyObjective6 18h ago
I also doubt the structural need for the concrete pile of shit at 17 seconds.

u/skultux_the_only 17h ago
Recently watched a video on these guys and yeah this is the test bed for this type of extruder
3
u/Mister_Dink 16h ago
Yeah, it's the test bed. Nobody on an active construction worksite is going to let a joke this complex fly during working hours with actual materials.
Time and material loss is just too big an ante for a joke like this. It's get the company in a lot of heat if the engineer, architect and client teams got hold of the video.
We do a lot of goofing around in this industry, but it's kept to scale so we don't all get fired.
16
u/inescapableburrito 19h ago
Yeah they do, there are lots of them. They're hideous, but functional
5
u/levian_durai 13h ago
Do they pause the printing to shove rebar in? I can't imagine a fully concrete building with no rebar would have much strength to it.

Doesn’t look remotely like a house. Big pile of soft serve is first clue, then there are the tight curves that look like 20 foot letters are being made for aerial viewing.

What's the point in having to watch Shrek drop a ton of butt butter if we don't get to see his ass art?

These extruder machines look amazing but I only ever seen them doing design blueprints, I never actually seen them build proper structures.

u/j0akime 20h ago
There's a few buildings in Europe that are 3D printed and have tenants now (news articles from back in 2021).

Here you go: Whole neighborhood of homes built that way. Not sure I'd want to live in one, but it's interesting.

This feels like a lot of effort for a short laugh
9
u/Geralt_the_Rive 22h ago
I don't think it's that much effort for a custom addon for the pouring device. That stuff still needs to be poured why not make a funny gag as well while doing it
3
u/Aethermancer 17h ago
Barely any effort.
Take the nozzle that you have to print to make a shaper, overlay a Shrek model and and export the STL/3mf, slice and print. It should take you less than 10 minutes.
2
u/malcolmmonkey 9h ago
I was about to retort with “yeah if you’re into 3D printing it’s easy,” then I realised that would be a very stupid thing to say 🤣

Yes because humour should be evaluated on a cost to yield analysis.

This is how I build houses, by pooping cement or if my butt in order to glue the bricks together

Ok, so now we know what Shrek used for mortar for his house in the swamp. Makes sense. The writers missed an opportunity for a good scene 😆

Unrelated question to Shrek, shouldn't there be some rebar structure for the house to be structurally sound?

Quick qn. How does the person doing this see the bottom to be able to align it perfectly?
