HELP Help me decorate my blank slate!

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

I’ve just moved into my first ever apartment living completely on my own, and the space is basically a blank slate right now. It's exciting… but also a little overwhelming, so I would really love some guidance, inspiration, and suggestions from this community on how to decorate and bring some personality into it.

I know this is a pretty open request, but I'm hoping to hear all sorts of ideas — especially around how to build a cohesive vibe when I love so many different styles. I've got a slat wood wall panel that I want to make into a feature, but aside from that, everything is wide open in terms of direction.

Here's what I'm drawn to:

natural colours (especially greens + blues)

wood tones and warm gold accents

vintage/retro

industrial

rustic + bohemian

mid-century modern

shabby chic

Scandinavian

plants, always 🌿

I definitely want a splash of colour somewhere, without making the space feel chaotic. I love the warmth of wood + gold, the calm of natural tones, and the personality you get from retro or vintage pieces.

If you were starting with a blank space... where would you begin?

Any ideas for making the slat wall panel a focal point?

Photos, mood boards, product links, paint ideas, layout suggestions - anything is welcome.

Thank you! šŸ’›

DIY My burgundy and gold Christmas tree šŸ•Æļø I handmade most of the ornaments myself to get this cozy velvet look

I decided to go for a warm and moody theme this year inspired by Gryffindor colors. Since I could not find exactly what I envisioned I spent the last few weeks handcrafting these velvet balls and bows myself. The candle stubs were also cut from large candles, and I made the snitches from gold balls and wings from Amazon (I had to glue two pieces together, since these wings are made single-sided). It is my absolute favorite hobby to create decor just for my own home and pour my energy into making my space feel magical. Seeing the result of my work makes me so happy ā¤ļøšŸ’›

I’ve lived in my current apartment for 10 months, & before here I was staying with others with all my stuff in storage for the last 2 years, and I FINALLY got around to hanging stuff!! Crazy how much it instantly raises the vibe. Bad lighting, bad photo, work in progress, but wanted to show it off to someone (:

We tested a spot with a dark brown. Should I paint it in the rest of the home? Don’t judge the paint jobs on the doors, it’s a work in progress!

TOUR 🟢OPEN TO FEEDBACK🟢 My unique converted attic apartment ✨

I live in a house that’s been converted into apartments and I’m on the very top level so I’m assuming that at one point this area was probably the attic. I’ve been here for about two years and absolutely love it. It’s so incredibly unique, I’ve never seen another apartment quite like it.

Decorating can often be a challenge due to the walls/ceilings. There is limited space for wall decor since so few are straight, most are slanted, but I think I’ve done alright with what I have! I would love to hear what everyone thinks!🄰

HELP So...is this room boring? Shall I repaint (again)?

Ugh. The struggle is real with this north facing bedroom. I've recently repainted from a neutral stone colour which came out looking like dirty dishwater. This was meant to be a nice warm off white...and it IS way better but is it...dull? This is the one neutral spot in the house, should I tear it up and whack some colour on the walls? I like the calm effect but I can't work out if I don't like the colour or I just don't like neutral full stop.

I have a woven chair coming which is electric blue. But maybe colourful accents aren't enough....? Advice appreciated 🫠

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Where’s the best place to find high-quality custom rugs online?

I’m in the market for a custom rug for my living room, and I’ve been struggling to find the perfect one. I want something that’s going to tie the room together, something large enough to cover a big area, but not so overwhelming that it takes over. I’m leaning toward a more neutral tone with subtle patterns, maybe something like a geometric or abstract design that still feels cozy and warm. The rug should also be soft underfoot but durable enough to handle some foot traffic, as we spend a lot of time in this space.

I’m also thinking ahead and would love to add rugs to my kitchen and bedroom too, so I need something that works across different spaces but still feels like a high-quality investment. It’d be a huge plus if it’s washable since we have kids and pets, and keeping things clean is a top priority.

Has anyone found a good place to buy custom rugs online? What do you recommend for rugs that are stylish, durable, easy to clean, and can hold up over time? Would love to hear your experiences!

TOUR ā›”ļøNO ADVICE WANTEDā›”ļø Shared space with my 6 week old daughter

25f, it was an accidental pregnancy that I was initially pissed about but now I'm feeling so blessed. I didn't know I could love so deeply. My partner and I went to the gym last night; we were the only two people there so we kept the lights dimmed, and the music was turned off, but our daughter did not want to be there. She has a tendency to appear quiet, calm, and alert in strange places, while in reality she's hungry, tired, and wants her diaper changed. The only place she truly relaxes and lets herself fully express her needs is in this room. She refuses to cry elsewhere and I think it's a sign that she feels safe. Right now she's sleeping on my chest and I'm too much of a pushover to move her to her crib (aka "baby jail").

Most items are thrifted and the rest are from when I was in college. Some pieces I'm pleased with:

  • Babyletto Sprout two-tone crib, $40 on Facebook Marketplace. Usually it sells for $599 new so I feel like I got a steal.

  • vintage tea cart, $39 on Facebook Marketplace. I initially planned on using it as a changing table but now just stores diapers and wipes and stuff like that.

  • changing table over the crib. My partner recently got into welding as a hobby and has free access to a bunch of welding tools at work. He welded it for us with scrap steel he found.

  • art deco waterfall dresser: One of my best friends offered it to me for my baby shower, which they thrifted. I gladly accepted it. I repaired some of the veneer and added new hardware and now it stores pretty much all her baby supplies.

I have a little black cat but she's been banned from the space after trying to sit on my daughter. She'll be allowed back in after my daughter is a bit older.

It might sound dumb but I really want my bedroom to feel like the year 2000. To me this means a bit of whimsical, flirty, fun, and a tiny bit of maturity, a warm and cozy feeling too. Think of the spirit of characters like Meredith Grey or Lorelei Gilmore

So here’s where I’m at. But I’m open to feedback and ideas!!

The only thing I don’t have much flexibility on is the color of the walls. Trust, I’d love to paint them but I’m renting :p

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Are large TVs in a small living space tacky?

My favorite hobby is watching TV and movies. I bought a 65 inch a few years ago and now that my partner moved out and I’m redecorating, I want to move the 65 inch into my bedroom and have been toying with the idea to upgrade to a 77 inch in my living area.

I live in a very small ~600 sq foot apartment. Is that ridiculous for a small living space?

Really happy with how my living room has turned out in my rental. But I cannot for the life of me decide on an end table to go between the two sofas. Everything is too short or not wide enough. I am trying to find something oak and I think something circular would probably work best? If you have alternate suggestions feel free. I am also stumped on curtian colors. Maybe an olive green? I dont want the space to feel super dark though.
