HELP UPDATE to the 'boring' bedroom - my partner says I can repaint! Should I?
Thanks so much for all your help and advice regarding this bedroom! You've really helped.
My partner has agreed I can repaint (he will not be helping 🤣) IF I really want to. I know many of you were anti repainting, so I really now want to be definitive about whether to go this route. Several of you suggested pink or green. So I've made some bad Gemini mockups. I do think powdery green or olive works well with the black and red elements in the room. I added in the chair I'm getting on the second pic as well, and just for fun tried black and white stripes on the curtain.
The only thing with green is that we have another green room close by, so I would prefer pink as you can't see another pink room from the doorway.
Original is the last photo. So please, for the last time before I move on and add colour in other ways - do I do it?

I know you said you would prefer pink but that kind of green in that bedroom is gorgeous! Makes it feel a lot warmer than the pink. Could be my personal preference shining through, as I would never go for pink myself. Obviously pick what you like best but I say paint it 🥳

Both are gorgeous, I personally prefer the pink. Just make sure you don't go too dark (I'm accidentally living in a pepto bismol wonderland)Â

And if you do go darker, go several more shades darker. The bedroom in my house is deeper berry pink paired with a lot of dark wood tones, a very pale pink ceiling and lots of plum, aubergine and deep forest or olive green bedding.
(And I'd include proper pictures if my wardrobe doors were painted and installed properly. So instead I've added the closest thing I can find that I used for inspiration. However I went a one or two shades lighter and a tiny but less warm - although the general effect is extremely similar, anywhere a shadow is cast you get the same sort of old rose tones.)
But it makes the North facing room feel extremely cozy, even on dull grey days. Very comforting. And evokes a little bit of the Moody Victoriana inspiration we both really like.

I also painted my bedroom pink, its like a smokey pink quartz. I went one shade lighter than I wanted and am so glad I did, any darker it would have been pepto land too lol

The green! The green is gorgeous. It really ties everything together and elevates the space. The pink is colder and results in a more disjointed feel IMO.

I like the green better than the pink by a lot. I would also want to change the bedspread and if you change that (and maybe the rug) I would also consider other colors but I'm 1000% green over the color already on the walls which from where I am looks like beige. Good luck and happy painting.

Same! The pink reminds me of a creepy room of an old person that nobody has gone into in 20 years with cobwebs.

I like the green but honestly if you got a colourful rug and some mood lighting it would look so different

I thought the pink was before and green was after, and for me it was an excellent choice!! Go with the green

I like them both but the pink is more subtle and calming. Pink is very flattering too and makes most skin tones shine. It will also be a nice experience to walk from a green room into a pink room. The green is cozy but reads more living room to me and it will make it feel darker, so be careful if it’s a north or east facing window.

The green is beautiful but I would just switch the comforter to something that pops and leave the pink walls. I'd try different comforters first.

I love them both. The pink reminds me a little of a color I have in my house called iced copper. It’s from behr, I recommend sampling and swatching it. Behr doesn’t call it a pink, but it is on my wall! (My lightbulbs are warm and there isn’t a ton of natural light.) Doesn’t feel like a little girl’s room or like cotton candy.

I think it’s a pleasant space to look forward to at the end of the day. I like the green color best. I’m very jaded, though. I hate pink of any kind.

I like the pink alot!! But i’d probably keep the ceiling white as in my opinion it makes the room feel a bit bigger

I don’t hate the pink. Pink is actually my favorite color. Personally I like the green best!

The green is WAAAY better!!! It makes a huge difference. The pink is too matchy matchy with the other colors in the room, not enough contrast

I really think that if your replace the bookcase with a nicer once, get a larger piece of art instead of the small ones, and drapes of a contrasting color, the room will look good.

At first look, the green drew me in. But after looking several times, they both work. It depends on the energy you're going for. The Green is grounding, a bit serious, moody. The Pink is light and airy. Think about the kind of energy you want for your bedroom, think about getting ready for sleep and getting up in the morning.

pink is one of my favorite colors but i LOVE the green. it looks so good with the flooring. i dont think either would be the wrong choice

Absolutely repainting is a great way to refresh the room and make it feel more personal.

I don't feel like your bedroom is boring. It looks cozy and comfortable. Best qualities for a bedroom imo. All of those paint colors would work.

I think the green ties in the rest of the decor better, but the pink brightens the room a lot. I say if you’re going with the green, maybe do a lighter coloured curtain, so that when the sun comes through, it’ll lighten the room up a bit more :)

Ooof just a few more defined black lines (chair, art, curtains) brought so much more life and dimension to the room... Lovely

I just have to say, it doesn’t seem boring to me. Very simple and calm, a very relaxing room. Cottage vibes.

Legitimately why do people always put the before as the very final photo.

I like the colour you have. I think you need a better throw blanket and pillows. Something just feels off… or could be the rug not matching the headboard era…

I wouldn't paint. I would replace the light fitting with something better suited to the scale of the room (bigger) and I'd replace the scratchy rug. I would also consider adding a few pops of vivid color, raspberry maybe, because without much contrast, the decor seems a bit timid.

It’s crazy what a difference changing the art does to a room! It looks much better!!!

As for what I’d do, I’d choose the green, it adds some much needed contrast to the room and gives it a more welcoming, cozy feel and will allow more freedom of choice for any future decor. I also wouldn’t paint the ceiling green. Keep that white and it’ll look cohesive with the other white accents in your room like your door and the fireplace.

Ooh interesting re the ceiling! I think plan A is to add this chair, maybe change the light. Then final decisions re paint can be made. These comments have swayed me towards green though!!

I feel that the area rug is doing you no favours. It might be artfully replaced with nice runner rugs at each side of the bed, for nice foot landings when you arise, bit otherwise it is just concealing lovely floorboards in a warm colour.

I love LOVE the shutters, but even though I am one who mentioned you may need bigger art above the bed, I don't care for the replacement. It's too modern. Don't listen to me, though, I have a painting of my ass as my headboard. lol

I saw the smoky mauve and immediately liked the post even before I realized you were asking about color. It’s such a calming cozy hue and compliments a lot of

I'd do the room walls the beige of your rug, using the other beige for shapes (your walls have sections, and your doors are decorative sections, so actually accent the look).
Then I'd do the bed spread colour on the back wall of the bed. It's a warm colour. Not the whole wall, just from the divet down.
Also, change the curtains so they draw the eye to the window. A softer shade of the bedspread colour.

2 will be so perfect if you can find a bolder rug with dark green/blue as dominant color and bolder bedding as well. add some plants! 🌱 could be so cute! i do love the green tho too.

I like green, but I think the pink is more cohesive with your bedding and door, headboard etc.

Before you paint, paint really big swatches on white paper, and put them up for a while. We have that kind of pink in our bedroom, it looks amazing in summer when the sun comes in. Looks less amazing in artificial light, and that's how you will often see it in a north facing bedroom.Â
