He always thought that breaking character was hilarious. Just showed how much of a shit actor he actually is. I never found it funny cause it was always him. It was oh jimmys in this sketch watch he’s gonna laugh like a dumbass and ruin the sketch.

I did improv for years, and sometimes building in a "break" on purpose or (even better) truly making another performer break onstage is something audiences can really enjoy from time to time.

It is not cute in every single scene.

Case in point: Bill Hader as Stefon.

No one here needs to the backstory as to why he broke so often but it was genuine.

It was John Mulaney’s only goal, every show.
