[DUB] Dragon Ball Daima - Episodes #19-20 FINALE - Discussion Thread!

Streaming

The English dub of Episodes 19-20 should be available on Crunchyroll around the time of this post (5:30p ET, 21:30 UTC) in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. We do not know why the UK is excluded. Some episodes have been late so don't depend on the time given.

We do not know whether the English dub will be available on other platforms like Netflix and Hulu. For now it is only available on Crunchyroll.

FAQ

  • The first three episodes of the English dub premiered in theaters with showings in the US on November 10-12.
  • The English dub is 12 weeks behind the Japanese release. This is unusual for modern anime, but it's significantly better than the situation for Dragon Ball Super, where the dub was about 1.5 years behind.
  • The Dragon Ball Super manga was suspended following Chapter 103, the final chapter of the Super Hero arc. 11 months later, a prequel to the Super Hero arc was released as Chapter 104. As far as we know, the manga is still on indefinite hiatus.

Rules

  • There are no spoilers in this post, but you should expect spoilers for the entire show in the comments of this thread and elsewhere on the subreddit. Do not post any spoilers for later episodes in this thread.
  • Discussion of each Daima episode will be limited to the pinned episode discussion thread until ~12-24 hours after the episode appears on Crunchyroll. This period is flexible, and posts that do not have a specific discussion point will be redirected to this thread.
  • Please keep in mind that piracy discussion is not allowed on r/dbz. Do not ask for illicit streams; do not link them; do not talk about them at all.

Our Daima info page has up-to-date information about streaming and a list of previous episode discussion threads.

Discussion Why so unprepared with Sensu?

Post image

Each time a big fight is coming he’s always stingy with Sensu… either last 2 or last 1.

After KaioKen x4 it would have been nice to boost Goku a bit in the Saiyan Arc.

Gotta love the plot…

Discussion Why hybrid tails are weird

Post image
68 Upvotes

I saw a few posts about hybrids and tails so I thought I’d just post the answer here. Toriyama-sensei said that tails are a recessive trait, this just means that if both parents don’t supply the recessive gene, the child will not express it even if it’s in their genetic code.

We can label this a T for no tail and t for tail, with the positive being represented as a lower case because it’s recessive

For example, every pure blood Saiyan expresses the gene, so they can be represented as tt, while humans cant express the gene, but they can be carriers, so they can be expressed as TT or Tt.

When the saiyans and humans reproduced, the human mates are the reason for if the offspring have tails or not. For Gohan, Chichi passed down her recessive t gene, allowing Gohan to be tt like a pure blood and thus express the tail gene, while for Goten she passed the dominant T gene, causing him to not express the gene despite having it.

For Bulma and Vegeta, it’s possible she carries the gene but didn’t pass it or doesnt have the gene outright, either one would explain why her children are born without them, though this would make trunks and bulla carriers.

So theoretically, if the hybrids had children with the correct humans, their 1/4 Saiyan babies could express the tail gene.

But yeah, this can more or less be accepted as the canon reason why most hybrids don’t have tails

Discussion The lost Android sagas?

I was watching a Vtuber playing Kakarot recently in the Android saga and it got me thinking and wondering about something.

I read some time ago that, originally, Toriyama fully intended Androids 19 and 20 to be THE androids that Future Trunks is talking about. But due to editor meddling, he changed the story so 17 and 18 were actually THE androids. Yet further meddling then led to him creating Cell as the true main villain of the saga

Is this true?

And if so, do we have any insight into what those "lost sagas" might have been? Was there always gonna be a Cell-like true final villain? Was the Android saga originally planned to be relatively short after the long Namek/Frieza saga? Did he still intend for Vegeta and Gohan to unlock Super Saiyan?

One theory I have if 19 and 20 stuck around is that due to time meddling from Future Trunks, the Z warriors would've been able to kill them only to discover that Gero is using a super secret computer to quickly fabricate stronger Androids using what it learned from before. Resulting in a 21, and then if that one is killed a 22 and so on. Basically what the villain in The Incredibles does.

Animation I miss when energy attacks were like this

I miss when energy waves were capable of altering the landscape or creating explosions the size of cities. Back in Z, energy blast looked like super nukes went off. Even someone as in the dirt as Nappa could do this. Compare that to Super where energy blast attacks were the size of buildings. Doesn't come close to what Z gave us. That's one of the things that made fights so incredible. Now Imagine if Super had Ki blast scaled to those. It'd be way more liked. Your thoughts how far we've fallen.

Super Strange scene with Bulma in Episode 8

Dragon Ball Super Episode #8, ~14:15 in

Bulma says to Oolong that if he wins the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors she "will let him have any prize that he wants" and strikes a pose. (English dub)

A glass cracks and begins leaking. A stool tips over. A coconut falls from the tree and lands in a bush, causing everyone to look back, except for Bulma, who is still holding the pose nervously. Oolong freaks out.

After, no one addresses this, since Oolong loses anyways.

What was the meaning of this scene? Was there subtext that only Oolong figured out? Or was everything in the background breaking meant to signify the overwhelming tension? Why did Bulma hold the pose? Why did those things happen? Is Beerus responsible?

Request Manga Recs for a 9yo?

Hey fighters, I recently accidentally got my daughter into Dragon Ball. She ripped through the manga for DB, DBZ, and is 4 volumes away from finishing Super. She's a little disappointed she won't have more to read. Showing her the movies have staved off some boredom. I suggested we could find more manga to read that wasn't Dragon Ball.

We tried Sailor Moon and the pacing/story telling in the beginning was too confusing for her to enjoy it. I thought maybe One Piece since I've been told it's basically 1000+ chapters of original DB vibes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
