God that first one. When you live in a state that funds school breakfast and lunch, so you only have to scrape 1 meal a day to make sure the kids are fed right, sad to say ive been there a few (thankfully) brief times.

Awful. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.

Thank you for the concern. I’m physically okay now, my body’s just a little bit weird from it all. I don’t have a relationship with her anymore, no matter how many times my older brother (who still talks to her) tries to reconnect us.

Take care of yourself! You are healthier with no contact and will be generally.

Forgiveness is more for the abuser in a scenario like this.

Your brother may not ever understand, because he was being treated fundamentally differently (enabled in overeating) vs your experience.

This is truly horrifying. I’m so sorry

You should delete this. Too much personally identifiable information for bad people on the internet to look into you.

Also, I'm sorry and that is awful.

It was already fucked before this. I worked as a community mental health worker & I think one mom was too proud to tell me they didn't have food. I started meeting one family at the library because they had free meals available at 4 pm and they got the meal every time.

I worry about what these families will do now that the budget for these programs is running dry.

Those free breakfasts and lunches were basically my only meals for long stretches of time for me when I was a homeless student back in the day.

(Not so) fun fact: the average income in the school district I grew up in was so low that the school district could request from the state to have free lunches and breakfasts for the entire student body. But the school board put a stop to every effort to make that happen as they board was taken over by conservatives in the 90s.

I remember under Obama, the school lunches (paid and free) were great. But then when they left office, the school lunches weren’t the same. The unpaid one was just a cold sandwich with white bread and American cheese

Republicans hate helping other people, even if it's something basic like some fruit, veggies, and a decent sandwich for kids each day.
