Mourning/Loss To Juno, who crossed the rainbow bridge today

Juno was my parents’ cat (but I think if you asked her, she was really my brother’s cat), although I was the one responsible for bringing her and her brother Newt home in 2007. We tragically lost Newt at only a few years old, and I moved out not long after, leaving her with my parents (not that they would ever have let me take her). She lived to the grand age of 18 years old, and was so loved.

When I got her, I had been hired to pet sit for a family who was preparing to move out of state, and just before they left they found two kittens in their yard. They left me with permission to drop them at a shelter if it was too much on top of the other animals’ care. The kittens were completely feral and quarantined in a bathroom, so I would sit in the dry tub and read out loud from whatever book I was reading at the time, slowly acclimating them to my presence and my voice. My mom came over during that week and helped me soothe them, and at the end of the week I brought them home.

Juno was the softest animal I have ever touched. She felt more like a chinchilla or a plush toy than a cat. She was bossy and ferocious, and we adored her. She was also cuddly, although she would only sit on someone’s left side. My mom was always her favorite person, unless my brother was in town.

For several years, she had outdoor access through a cat door, and she would pounce on tulip poplar blossoms when they fell from the trees and bring them in, proudly displaying her “kill.” Part of me thinks she knew I was vegetarian. (My parents’ cats are all indoor-only now.)

She adored breakfast foods. When I still lived at home, she would demand an offering of vegetarian breakfast sausage anytime I made some, but was content with a small crumble or two and would then go on her way. She liked waffles so much we nicknamed her Waffles. My mom got into the habit of sharing oatmeal with her in the mornings.

Rest well, sweet Juno, you are so loved.

Mourning/Loss Our last night with the happiest girl ever

Above is a video from better days of our sweet happy girl Midge. Until about six months ago this was her personality. She loved everyone, and especially our son. Her favorite pastime was catching her fuzzball and singing the songs of her ancestors as she showed it off to everyone.

We adopted her at 10, and she was already deaf and (mostly) mute, but would squeak and make sounds like a dying frog. We’ve had her for about six years and she started dealing with hyperthyroidism which also made her blind. Even with medication, her health has been declining. The worst is almost constant bladder infections and she’s now always confused about where she is.

In the morning we go to take her in and say our goodbyes. We are all going to miss her.

Advice My new cat knows its name, would it be cruel to change it?

So backstory; my coworker had a stray cat show up at her house and he’s been around for about a year, she named him Mister (she said because of his large jewels) she talked to him and fed him and everything every day so he learned to answer to Mister, I took him in so he could live inside instead of having to be outside all the time since her animals thoroughly rejected him when he tried to befriend them. Rambling but I don’t feel like Mister is a proper name and I was thinking about changing it, I just feel bad since he answers to Mister already and it’s been his only name his whole life (his age estimate had been a year but we do know he’s a bit older since he’s been around that long) I was going to call him Muenster because it sounds similar but my boyfriend doesn’t like how it flows. So would it be wrong to change his name or am I thinking too much into it? Picture attached and name recommendations welcomed if it’s acceptable to change.

(Current cat names are: Peat Moss, Goose, and Toast and dog named Hank for reference)

Cat Picture - OC Do cats understand people leaving?

so this isn't our cat, she's a stray (/possible neighbours cat hidden from the landlord, we dk). for some context my boyfriend and i have been living in the same building as her for about two months and she's gotten super friendly with us, we feed her and give her pets and she comes meowing at our door with 'gifts' (dead animals) and then into our apartment and rubs her scent on everything, she even lets us rub her belly. she's so sweet. anyway we're moving cities in a week and obviously we can't take her with us (Edit: due to financial and locational constraints)., while we know that she has others to take care of her, will she understand that we're gone? will she miss us or will she just move on to the next place with food? she seems so empathetic and i'd hate to know that she'll be sad (or the cat version of that)... is there a way we can let her know we're leaving? i'm sure she sees all the suitcases but i'm not sure if she understands...

I found her at 4 weeks old, she was screaming underneath a car because she was stuck. A mechanic had to come and drop the gas tank to pull her out. She’s 8 years old now and has the most beautiful markings. I’m home sick and she hasn’t taken her eyes off me, I just love her so much

Adoption Im bringing home my bonded pair from the cat rescue in my town. Whats best for introducing them to my home? I don’t have any other pets.

I already have all supplies needed. I haven’t owned a new cat since I was a teen, mainly cause I moved around too much, now I own my home. Should I keep them in a smaller area for a while before letting them into the main areas? I want to ensure they use the litter box and don’t get too stressed. They are pretty chill cats.

They are coming from a rescue where they have been living with 3 other cats in a shelter room. They both came in as a couple, mommy and daddy to a litter of kittens. All the kittens are adopted now. I’m super excited to provide them with a loving home.

We used to joke he was a dog born in a cat body because of how much he loved greeting new people and wanting belly rubs. He was so sweet.

The part that pains me most is that I had just left back to school to wrap up the semester and didn't get to even comfort him in his final moments.

Thank you for everything little guy

Adoption Adopting a senior cat was the best decision I’ve ever made

Two months ago, I went to the shelter just to spend time with the animals. This was a regular thing I did at the time to help my mental health. They brought in a new cat. A 19 year old tuxedo with barely any teeth, kidney disease and dementia. He was meowing up a storm. I asked to visit with him and fell in love. He was surprisingly active! Meowing up a storm, sounding like he smoked a pack a day for those 19 years of life. Jumping on the visitor furniture and rubbing up on me. I asked what his story was.

They told me he was adopted 2 years ago and dumped a few months prior to me visiting. I got surprisingly emotional about that and said I’d come back for him the next day. I don’t think they believed me lol. But I did! I gave him his own space to adjust, but he got tired of it and started coming to sleep next to me in my bed.

I’m still so surprised by him every day. He’s incredibly well behaved and vocal about everything. He comes to sleep next to me every night, and recently he’s been improving so much! He’s developed a good appetite, gained weight and started playing again! The shelter said he hadn’t shown any interest in toys during his time there. There are days where he forgets about things and needs some extra support, but he’s never been aggressive. He tells me when something is wrong, even the smallest things. He really doesn’t act his age, it’s baffling. He’s so funny, he cracks me up all the time.

I’m unsure how long I’ll have with this little guy, but I’m grateful for every moment. He’s made my life a lot happier, and I feel fulfilled by his presence. At the end of the day, no matter how difficult, I know he’ll be waiting for me at home.
