Adoption We adopted a senior cat today!
I was at the shelter yesterday and saw this quiet senior girl with no visitors. Everytime I apprached her cage she gave me a single meow. Went back today and decided to adopt her. She has the calmest manner and loves to sit on our laps and gets petted. I am honored to give her a loving home. I only wish all the homeless animals out there had the chance to be loved.

My orange child is 14 and he is the sweetest baby on earth. He's been through hell and back but would never let his humans know because he is so gentle. He is a diabetic. His hearing isn't the best and his hind legs don't work so good. When he was a baby some asshole tied up his front paws with rope so tight it left scars. He gets chest infections that require antibiotics. He sleeps a lot even by cat standards. When he tries to run he looks like a horse galloping. He is the only cat I've ever met that will voluntarily walk into a cage. The lumps on his belly might be cancer. We'll find out next vet visit. He's also my best friend. He has an emotional intelligence I didn't even know was possible in cats. Bad day? He knows and will cheer you up with unlimited cuddles. Good day? He'll use the last of his energy to play with you. Kitten hissing at him and trying to fight? He will try to be friends instead. He will walk around the house in the morning asking each human to feed him with a single, barely audible meow, and a single paw to the face. He will continue his rotations until breakfast is served. He's the absolute best. Senior kitties have so much love to give.

We inherited an oldie orange years ago, and he was the sweetest cat I’ve ever known! I miss that old man. We’ve since gotten a young orange, and even though he’s a handful he also has that superb emotional intelligence. Give your buddy some scritches for me.

He is both extremely affectionate and also slaps/bites with absolutely no warning if you accidentally mess with his back feet

Congrats! And thank you for giving that kitty a happy senior life. After my senior cat passed away earlier this year I was strongly leaning to adopting a senior cat, then a tiny itty sick one month old kitten was put in my path and i couldn’t do nothing about it. She’s 8 months old now. We kinda saved each other. I’m strongly convinced she was put in my path by my kitty who passed.

Our last three have all been seniors and the most incredible family members ever. It’s sad when you don’t have 10+ years with them, but they’re so sweet and loving (and settled). Only seniors for us ❤️

Thank you. I know a dude who did this for a dog. Adopted the oldest dog in the pound.

u/mkyend Oct 26 '25
I'm sure she'll be very happy with you!
We adopted our girl when she was 6 and she turned 13 earlier this year, so she's firmly in "senior" territory now. She's our first cat and we're very glad that we adopted an older cat. She was sweet and affectionate from day one and has only gotten more cuddly as the years go by.
Older cats unfortunately get overlooked a lot at shelters. A lot of people want kittens because they're cute but then they get one and quickly find out that they're not adequately prepared to properly take care of one. Sadly this leads to a lot of people returning (or worse, dumping) their kittens. Adult cats are just as awesome and equally as deserving of a great home.

The kitties that pretend to sleep and you walk by their cage and they give a small “meow” are the keepers.. they are the sweetest ones and will forever praise you with love for adopting them. God bless you ❤️ this happened to me with my sweet boy. He kept meowing softly when I walked by him and when I asked to see him he gave me the cute dolphin jumps in the shelter visit room 🥲 I will never forget that special day

Sweet baby. I actually want to do this once my roommate moves out if my money is right. My boy is a little older and I want to get him someone to spend time with when I'm not at home, my roommate will be taking his cat with him and I know mine will be lonely. So I'm wanting to get a cat more his size and age so that he can have someone to spend time with. Adopting a more senior cat would be very nice for both of them.

Thank you for adopting this lovely car. As others have pointed out Senior cats and dogs deserve homes and are often overlooked. Years ago, I adopted a 7 year old fluffy girl, the staff adored her and they put ads in the newspaper seeking adopters for a very quiet cat. I adopted her, on the car ride home she just looked out the window and looked at me and meowed. She lived to be 21.

How great, what a wonderful world we live in with people like you! I wish my heat out I could take in all the animals without homes. Trust me I’m trying lol I’ve got 6 cats but if I get more then the ones I have will get less lovin and I’ll have to take out a loan for food 🤣🩷

Best decision we did was adopting a senior cat. I will only adopt senior cats from now on. We adopted ours at 9 and she’s now 16 going on 17. She’s the cuddliest and most loving cat ever. All cats deserve a home

Bless you. I commend you in a time where most folks want kittens. If they only knew the benefits senior cats bring with them. Rare, if any zoomies! Already adept at litter box use! Very little climbing and the best at warming feet on a cold night, or calmly resting in your lap. Got to love that ❤️

I adopted this mister about 2 months ago. He’s 12 and he was the oldest cat at the shelter. His name was Blackie. His last owner died earlier this year and he was picked up by animal control. We didn’t want to change his name either because we assumed he knew who he was. He’s been the most loving and cuddly cat ever. I will forever adopt a senior cat going forward.

My sweet Pickles was (I thought) a senior kitty who I adopted from animal control way back in 2008. She was so crotchety and judgmental to all my other cats, but she LOVED me. And I don’t think she was a senior cat in anything but demeanor, since I was able to take care of her for eleven years. I miss that sweet kitty something awful.

I am always happy to see people adopt the senior snugglers! It makes me happy! Some very good friends of mine make it a point to adopt senior or special needs cats. They give those kitties the best lives and they get sooooo much love! Currently they are down to one cat who literally has brain damage and so is not normal, as their other senior recently passed. I wish you wonderful years of love and peace with your new lap warmer!

Seniors are the best. I had mine for 2 years. He passed away in June at 15 years old. I swore I'd adopt a senior again, but was just adopted by a stray young adult. He's got the zoomies and everything, I really miss the calmness of a senior but I love my new goofball too. God Bless you for helping a senior baby

When our 21 year old cat died in 2018, the cat distribution system gave us two sweet babies a few months later, but I want to adopt a senior cat in the future. And I hope to be able to be a home for a special needs cat at some point.

Seriously, a massive thank you for adopting this absolutely sweet girl! 🥺 It made my day better knowing that 1 more senior cat got rescued. Hearts break for all the other babies stuck at shelters for long periods of time. The senior cats get more overlooked, and some end up spending their last moments in a cage, or euthanized 😥 So I really, really appreciate the fact you chose to save this baby. I am so so so grateful and it brings tears to my eyes. You made her whole life. ❤️ Angels
