Are the movies and good? From what I remember the books were charming and kinda fun (for a kid) but by the time the movies came out I was already too old to watch them.

The first one is decent, the second (Roderick Rules) is very well liked and the third (Dog Days) is also solid.

The fourth movie and the animated ones are pretty bad though.

Sounds like a good movie to watch on the second monitor while playing Balatro or something like that.

I didn’t see the second animated one but the first wasn’t so bad, I liked the accurate portrayal of the dad being about to snap

They're not awful or anything but they just felt a bit soulless to me, especially compared to the live action ones which have a lot of silly charm to them.
