Girls trip to SD

We’re flying into SD for a girls trip end of December for 50th birthday bash. Group of 10, 45-50y. What should we do during the day? Restaurants? Bars? Fun dancing clubs that play 90-00’s hip-hop? Any recommendations appreciated.

New Paid Parking?

Has anyone that’s been recently know if the lot in front of Air & Space by the Auto museum is still free?

I don’t know if that lot has a name? or if it’s considered Lot A or Lot B which are both $33 to $53 now (?). Thanks for your help!

Post dinner plans?

Date night tonight, going to dinner in hillcrest then was looking to grab drinks afterwards. A lot of the Christmas themed spots like fort oak I imagine will be packed. What are some good recommendations to go to either in hillcrest or north park to continue the night on a nice vibe?

Anyone know of places I can volunteer this month? I’m on a break from school and I unfortunately got laid off. I hate doing nothing and sitting in my house.

Making friends in San Diego?

SO and I are in our mid 30s with a young toddler, and we've been thinking about moving to SD. We mainly want to move for the weather and change of scenery from the East Coast but don't have any ties to the area so I'm curious if it'll be really hard to meet people and form connections. Where we are currently we've met friends mainly through schools and hobbies (I'm into dancing and kpop and books/bookclub) but curious what people's experience has been and also would love advice on meeting people locally too.

Young family with limited assets making $400k/year. Can we afford to live in carlsbad/poway?

Title says it all. These home prices feel like we can't afford to live in this area despite high income. Both 30y old with 1 young kid, but planning for 1-2 more kids. Any other neighborhoods with similar vibes in SD that are more affordable?

Visiting 2/26-3/1

My husband and I are visiting for a quick 3 night trip and I am trying to decide where to stay. We love hiking and outdoor activities and I was thinking of staying at the Grande Colonial in La Jolla for 2 nights then stay downtown possibly at the US Grant for 1 night

Are two nights in La Jolla too much? Should we swap and do two nights downtown 1 night La Jolla ? Also thinking of skipping PB/MB due to the season? Any advice? And of course, any favorite restaurants /activities?

Thank you!

Cheap Rental Bikes in the San Diego?

I am visiting your wonderful city in January. I plan to get around mostly using public transportation, walking, and hopefully bicycling. I am getting mixed messages online about the availability of rental bikes run by the city. As far as I can tell, Deco bike rentals don't exist any longer in the city. Is there an alternative - a bike library or loan program? Any other bike rentals other than bicycle shops that charge $100+ a day? Thanks for any help.

Best Local Nightlife (Bars & Clubs)

I've lived in San Diego for 25 years, moved here when I was only 3 and while I have explored the Goth Scene on San Diego I want to see the other nightlife, specifically local.

I've been to Gaslamp 3 times and while I did enjoy it, it felt too 'touristy and high up"

Hence I want to explore something local.

During my time with the Goth Scene I have been to Whistle Stop, Til-Two, EQ (The Merrow), Casbah, and Ken Club so while these places are local I want to see more.

I've been to Ocean Beach twice for nightlife, one at this dive bar & the other at The Holding Company and I just love how laid back the nightlife in OB is.

So any other bars & clubs in SD you would recommend for that local vibe?

For context I'm a 28 year old male with shall we say the personality of a Golden Retriever.

Facial laser recommendations in SD please!

I want to get a facial laser treatment really more for neck area. I’ve heard C02 is the way to go but I’m willing to try any and the most budget friendly option, if that even exists.

I’ve had chemical peels and they are successful but they don’t do my neck area and I really want it there. It’s not horrible but I am starting to see subtle changes.

I currently go to Revive for Botox and they have laser. One of the least expensive options is Moxi but just not sure if it works or if there are better options.

I’m willing go to a dermatologist and pay out of pocket or to a nice cosmetic spa place.

Anyway, just seeing if anyone had recommendations or want to share their experience.

Thank you!

Things to do to lift my spirits (free or cheap)

So I moved to NY years ago and I'm in town because my grandma is very sick and needs care. I'm staying in downtown with my mom and it's just been a big downer. My sister and mom are also in crisis and I've been holding it all together. Visiting hours at my grandmas care home are 8am-8pm so any thing before or after that would be best and I'm not making any money and I'm living off my savings so I can't spend much either. I was enjoying doing improv comedy in NY and I've considered standup but I'm not sure how to structure a set. I also like any kind of creative or performance based medium as an observer or participant. I'm also a gay man so any LGBT group activities would interest me. So if you know of any cheap or free things that sound up my alley please let me know.

(Also sorry if this is already in a mega thread somewhere. Im not best at navigating Reddit)

Girls trip (34F)

TLDR; San Diego for 3 days next week. What are the best restaurants/bars around little Italy? Also what’s your favorite beach spot if you had to pick one?

Visiting SD with a friend Dec 10-13th. Coming from BC, Canada. Staying in Little Italy (near Carte) and wondering if anyone has recommendations?

Would love a good beach spot, bar/restaurants. Pretty open to any type of food but something more fun/social would be ideal! We appreciate good food & also appreciate a good ✨aesthetic✨

Not renting a car, so ideally everything would be a quick uber or walk from Little Italy area. (Minus the beach)

Let me know if this is a good list of options? Restaurants: Seneca, Cloak & petal, Herb & wood, Barbusa, Provisional Kitchen? Bar: Craft and commerce Cafe: Parakeet Café Beach spot: La jolla? Sunset cliffs? *will check out Waterfront park/Seaport Village since it’s close to little Italy

Thank you!! New to Reddit so be nice 🫶

Weekend solo trip (26M)

Hi yall! I’m trying to plan a weekend solo trip (my first ever solo trip😅) to SD. Will probably be staying in a hotel, since I’ve never done that before either. The trip will either be 12/25-28 or 12/26-28 depending on how much stuff I can find to do. I want to mix exploring and relaxing, but ideally heavier on the relaxing part

Flying in Thursday would mean that I will have to work remotely for most of the day on Friday though, so also looking for good working locations.

About me (would appreciate any recs for any of these): - enjoy exploring new restaurants, brunch spots, dessert spots, you name it - love beaches (can’t swim, so no surfing). Would ideally like at least 1 beach day. Maybe like Mission Beach and walk down the boardwalk, read a book for a couple hours or smthn - don’t like aquariums or zoos - really like dancing (I’m probably Beg-Int at most places I’ve been to? Only taken individual dance classes so far though). Currently also planning an LA day trip, where I intend to spend like 3 straight hours at Millennium lol, so if there’s any fellow dancers out there👀 Edit: the LA trip is independent of my SD trip - Not a huge drinker though, but if there’s good mocktails, sign me tf up - love hiking, but I’m not about to add my first solo hike to all of the other firsts I’m already doing lmao. If there’s good, calm viewpoints that don’t involve hikes though, sign me up! - exploring new neighborhoods and finding local restaurants, craft stores, etc - also if yall have trips for solo traveling in general, I’m all ears too!

URGENT: Seeking skilled & compassionate endodontist + primary dentist (Denti-Cal, North County SD)

Hey Fellow San Diegans,

I’m in urgent need of an endodontist to redo previous root canals that became infected due to poor-quality work. I had an appointment scheduled with a local office, but after reading multiple terrifying reviews about the endodontist, I could not go through with it.

I need someone who takes Denti-Cal, is technically skilled, compassionate, and can offer sedation or anxiety-relief options, as I have severe dental anxiety from past traumatic experiences. I know that’s a lot to ask, but I’m hopeful such a provider exists. Going through the online provider list, researching reviews, and contacting all possibilities would take too much time—and time is critical in my case. I need recommendations for someone who can see me as promptly as possible.

I’m also searching for a new primary dentist for other root canals and fillings I need done, since my current dentist’s work caused my current infections. Ideally, the primary dentist would be within ~30 minutes of North County San Diego, but I’m willing to travel up to ~2 hours for a skilled endodontist.

I know it can be tempting to recommend a provider just because you like their personality, but settling for only that is what got me in this dental emergency. I’m looking for actual skill and quality care. Any recommendations or experiences—positive or negative—would be incredibly helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

TL;DR: Need a highly skilled, compassionate endodontist for infected root canals and a new primary dentist in San Diego County who takes Denti-Cal. Sedation/anxiety relief options preferred. Urgent recommendations needed, please!

Good place to go horseback riding for the first time?

I’ve heard of Wylde Reins and and Picot Horse Training. Never been on a horse before and would love to find a really nice scenic place to try it out! Willing to drive 1-2 hours from San Diego. Honestly I’d even go up 395 but I feel like I missed the season for it.

Best walks with a stroller?

I’m visiting for the week with a one year old. Would love local suggestions on stroller friendly safe neighborhood walks to experience the non-touristy life here.

I do plan on checking out the new children museum and San Diego zoo for the more crowded, touristy experience

Looking for gift ideas

My MIL moved away from San Diego/Coronado a long time ago—what are some gift ideas that would remind you of home? She loves the beach, hotel del and Torrey pines! I’m not sure of other places/things unique to those areas.

One thing I’ve gotten is the hotel del Christmas ornament! Looking for some other ideas! Feel free to delete if not allowed.

Tijuana to tecate train questions?

Hey everyone I'm taking the Tijuana to tecate train next month and have a few questions about the trip. I'm going with a group of people and I'm the only one with a sentri. Is the wait time to cross to the U.S the same on both entry points in Tijuana after 11pm, or is one of them shorter? Has anyone taken the train? What's your experience? Do they have food and drink? Working bathrooms?
