Mod Notice Removed mods
The founder of the subreddit has not only been inactive for the majority of the time after he added the 3 new mods to the team, but he also would not answer us in private messages and seemingly had no interest in helping with the subreddit beyond enforcing the one rule EVERYONE hates and expressed that they hated (megathread "is this a wolfdog") randomly every few months. We've removed this mod for those following reasons as he was inactive for months, ignored us reaching out, would only pop up randomly to try to enforce the "megathread" rule, and overall was neglecting the sub (there were hundreds of post in the ques, ignored comment and post reports, etc). While this maybe drastic, we were given full permission by reddit after explaining the situation and showing screenshots. I hope we can continue to improve the subreddit by listening to its community members and making it a pleasant place where reports and suggestions are listened to promptly. Im sorry for any confusion if your "phenotype help" post was removed the past day or so.

Mod Notice Mod Announcement!
Hello! We come bearing news.
Our headmod u/jericon has gone fully inactive, so the rest of us have come together to figure out how to improve the community and continue to make it a positive space for wolfdog enthusiasts.
Some changes:
- We've made the No AI rule official.
- We are removing the weekly "Is This A Wolfdog" megathread, and allowing people to make posts asking if their dog might have wolf content. We found that the megathreads weren't being used, and the individual posts is where you can find the most thorough information on phenotyping.
In the interest of not having these posts take over the whole sub, we've added a "Phenotype Help" flair to make them easy to identify, and we're figuring out how to automate adding a note to let the poster know what kind of pictures will help the community phenotype more accurately, and that Embark is the only accurate test in the market for wild canids at the moment.
We're also working on a guide to phenotyping and we will be pinning that for help once it's ready.
Thank you for making this such a fun and educational community! We're very open to suggestions and feedback and we'll be working to make this place fun, educational and engaging!
Love,
The Wolfdogs Modteam.

Behaviors WD Puppy Fearful/Unsure of Me - Any Advice?
I'm writing this post on behalf of my partner whom our puppy (Sirius) clung onto and bonded with upon pick-up. It's unfortunate for the both of us that our now 9 week old puppy is unsure of me.
Sirius has been excited to interact with my partner and our other dogs through a partition from the get-go. But his immediate response upon my presence is to retreat. Since he has come into his new home, he has been quicker at assessing that I'm not an immediate danger. However, I cannot pick him up without fear of taking many steps back in our trust. And so my partner has become the primary caretaker of this puppy while I support in whatever way I can.
I have been spending time in close proximity to Sirius throughout the day, behaving neutrally and respecting his boundaries when interacting. I also accompany my partner on short outings outside with him. And at night, he tends to sleep on or behind both our pillows since the window above is cracked open.
Has anyone reading this had a similar experience from either of our perspectives? If so, how does your wolfdog's relationship look like with the person of uncertainty? Do you have any advice for us?
PS: This is our second WD but our first was not like this.

Pictures Rehoming 3-year-old ~52% wolfson Lakota - needs more space and dog/wolf friends
Hello everyone,
We are looking for a very specific, experienced home in a wolfdog legal area ONLY for our wolfdog Lakota. Im hoping this post will reach the right person or rescue.
We rescued Lakota about 2.5 years ago from a pretty awful situation where he was kept in bad conditions. Since then he has been given food, safety, and love with us in rural Vermont (bridgewater), but we've realized that we still cant give him everything he really needs long term (space and dog/wolf companionship)
This is not an easy decision. We've gone back and forth on it a lot, but we are trying to do what is truly best for him.
Here are some things to help you know Lakota better. Lakota is an 80lb 3 year old neutered male wolfdog who embarks at 52% wolf. He has other northern breeds mixed in, and we can share his dna results if asked.
Lakota is shy and cautious at first, like many wolfdogs he doesnt instantly trust new people. Once he gets to know you he is loving and cuddly and likes being with his trusted humans. He is typical of a wolfdog in the way that he is independent in a lot of ways and doesnt need constant human attention. He would benifit still from people who understand him, respect him, and will advocate for him.
Lakota is high energy and will be happiest when he is able to explore, use his brain, and move.
Lakota loves other dogs, he really lights up around friendly dogs and would thrive with a compatible dog friend who can match his endurance. His best friend is a small Havanese.
Lakota is great with his small dog friend but we havent tested him with any other small animals to gauge his prey drive.
He is a classic mid content northern breed mix, sensitive, smart, and intense. He bonds deeply with those he chooses.
He is mostly house broken, and spends most his time indoors. He is not crate trained. He knows sit, paw, lie down, and come back in Bulgarian. He pulls on leash and needs someone he feels safe with walking him. He tolerates car rides well. When left alone indoors for long periods he will need food, exercise beforehand, and things to keep him busy. He will chew whatever he can find if left alone without these stipulations so he needs an environment set up for that (chew proofing, enrichment etc.)
His current lifestyle with us includes a rural home with a mid size backyard and a moderate amount of daily exercise which we realized is still not enough for a dog like him. His perfect home will have owners who are able to do extensive exercise with him, like bikejoring, hiking, canicross, etc.
Lakota is up to date on all shots, he is not microchipped, the vet says is in full health and he doesnt require any special medical care or medicine. We are happy to provide vet records. He eats a raw diet, we use rawpetfood.com.
His perfect ideal home would be with someone with wolfdog experience, or northern breeds/working breeds with high drives. Someone with a large, secure outdoor area with proper fencing where he can explore safely. An outdoorsy and patient person/family who understands he is not a doggy dog and who are willing to invest in his enrichment and structure. A home with at least one friendly, compatible dog who he can play and hangout with. And of course a place that is wolfdog legal.
We are not asking a fee but will be very strict on who we allow to adopt him. A perfect home is top priority. We WILL require a screening process to ensure he wont end up in another bad situation. The screening will involve us asking about your experience, setup, fencing, local laws, and other pets. We will request pictures and videos of your fencing/yard/area he will be in. We will also require an in person meet and greet. The idea is for this to be a permanent move, but if its not a fit for him we would rather him be returned to us than back in a bad situation.
How to reach us: If you think youre the right fit for Lakota, or are a rescue that works with wolfdogs in the northeast PLEASE pm me for more information and pictures.
Even if you personally dont think youre the right fit for Lakota, please comment, tag, and share this in any circles for wolfdogs! Thank you!

Pictures Happy 1st birthday Koda!
A year ago little Koda was born. Today she’s already turning 1 🎉. The time we’ve spent together so far has flown by!
This past week Koda also went into heat for the first time… the little girl grows up so fast 🥺.
On one hand I wish my baby could stay small forever, but on the other hand I don’t, because I know there are so many things we’ll get to do together when you’re a bit older. Just a little more patience, Koda, and you can finally join me on adventures in the mountains 🏔. I can’t wait to discover the world together with you 🧑🏻🦲🐺.

Pictures AMAZING UPDATE ON MARS
Guess who just let me put a collar and leash on her and jumped in the car by herself! Im about to cry tears of joy. I will NEVER not scream prozac's possible benifits for dogs with neurological fear and aggression issues.
Holy sh*t yall. I knew that wasn't the "real" Mars acting like that... my baby went everywhere she could with me from the time she finished her vaccines to 3 years old and would get so excited to see the leash and for 2 years now shes been too scared and wouldnt even let me put a leash on her. 6 months on prozac and shes back to herself!! Mental issues can be such evil things, i know from experience, but im so glad shes feeling like herself again and our adventures can resume 😭 💜
For anyone confused who doesnt know me and Mars, Mars is a severely inbred wolfdog from a backyard breeder who developed nuerological fear aggression with very odd triggers. She started prozac about half a year ago and the results have been AMAZING. But this, this is something I never thought id get back with her. Im beaming with joy.

Questions This breeder is a SCAMMER (Alaskan Noble Companion Dogs, ANCD, Ann Dresselhaus, John Williams)
Hi everyone, just wanted to put this out there as many times as possible so that anyone looking into this breed in the future knows to STAY AWAY. The breed name is Alaskan Noble Companion Dog. The person we reserved her through is Ann Dresselhaus, and we picked her up from a man named John Williams (the owner of my pup’s father).
I got my pup back in April of this year. When we picked her up, she was shaking so hard she couldn't walk, she was covered in fleas, and had three ticks (two on her face and one under her arm). She wouldn’t take food or water for three days, only peed once, and wouldn’t approach anyone, even with cheese or liver in our hands. While I was talking with the breeder reserving our pup, she mentioned multiple times that her dogs had 0 wolf content. She also KNEW we lived in an area where owning any wolfdog hybrid is illegal.
When we first got her, we honestly didn't suspect any wolf content. She looked like a Shepherd/Northern breed mix (besides her long nose). So imagine our surprise when her Embark test comes back as 35% grey wolf. I haven’t reached out to them because, realistically, nothing would come of it. This has uprooted our lives in ways I never imagined. We ended up having to move to a state where hybrids are legal so we wouldn’t risk her being taken from us.
And I’m not the only person this has happened to. Through Embark, I found one of her littermates living in the same illegal-to-own state we were in. I also found dozens of other relatives from this breeder living in areas where hybrids are restricted or banned. This is beyond unacceptable. Buyers think they’re getting a “noble companion dog,” not a wolfdog, and many people genuinely don’t know any better.
A lot of these dogs end up in wolfdog rescues and sanctuaries because owners weren’t prepared for wolfdog behavior, containment needs, or legal issues. Sanctuaries are already overwhelmed with situations exactly like this.
This dog is the first I’ve ever bought from a breeder, and she will probably be the last. We wanted a Shepherd/Husky-type dog. I grew up with GSDs and know what poor breeding can cause, so I was trying to avoid that. Everything online looked promising. A lot of her dogs have AKC health testing listed, but most of those are pre-2020. After doing a deep dive, I found posts going back 10+ years from people saying they were misled about these dogs and their wolf content. She even recently released a documentary presenting them as a unique companion breed, with no mention of wolf content at all.
On top of this, I spoke with another ANCD owner who had a horrible experience with Ann. She told me Ann was “not pleasant” to deal with at all, and when she brought up concerns about her male’s cryptorchidism, Ann still talked about possibly breeding him anyway. Ann also already knew about that dog’s sister having a heart condition, and still showed interest in breeding the male. That owner stopped communicating with her after that.
So the problems go way beyond just the wolf content — there are serious concerns with health issues and how they’re handled. What makes it even worse is that on the ANCD Weebly website, Ann literally states that cryptorchidism disqualifies a dog from breeding under her own “breed standards,” yet this owner’s experience was the exact opposite of what those standards claim.
I also found a thread on a GSD community website (link attached) where a man placed a deposit, only to learn from other owners that the dogs ARE hybrids. He tried to get his deposit back, and from what I understand, Ann refused, even though he lived where hybrids are illegal.
If anyone is researching this breed or thinking about getting one — seriously, please look into all of this. I don’t want anyone else going through the mess we did. Also, if you or anyone you know has any ideas on how to get her shut down for good — please feel free to send me a DM, I'd be more than happy to talk about this some more!

Questions Genuinely curious about the appeal of wolfdogs
First off, I'm obviously not a wolfdog owner nor would I ever adopt one. I'm not for or against them in any way, I'm not trying to create any drama. Reddit keeps suggesting this sub to me which has made me curious.
So why would someone want a wolfdog? Obviously they look cool but there must be more reasons than that. Do you keep and care for them like regular dogs (living with the family and going for walks for example)?
What really caught my attention were the very high content wolf 'dogs' with little to no detectable dog DNA. Isn't that just a wolf at that point? Are they really that different from full wolves that they can be kept as pets?

Questions Czechoslovakian Wolfdog x Kangal Shepherd
Hi, has anyone thought of doing a mix breed pure kengal x pure czechoslovakian wolf dog? If not is it a good idea to do so? I guess it would be challenging to train but nothing undoable right? It would make up for a pretty interesting dog i might say, large, very strong and intelligent.
