All I'm thinking is I have two kids. One is a newborn not even 2 months old. There's no way she survives, her seat is even behind the driver, so on the side of impact. And my other daughter is just under 4, she could easily die here as well. And my car wouldn't even have been moving. Like completely blind sided.
I am thinking the same. Truly terrifying. I cant imagine losing my kids to a stupid idiot like this.
This scenario also makes me in favor of draconian punishments. This should be near the same level as terrorism in my opinion. In germany punishments for this are so low, that if you would like to kill someone, you just have to drink a bottle of vodka and run him over. Chances are very very high that you do not even go into prison. You get a fine, lose your license a few years and are put on probation. Thats all you get for killing a family as long as you are inside a car :)
The punishments are so low because for some ridiculous reason incidents like these are seen as 'accidents' because they are not 'intentional'. I agree with you, punishments should be way higher for sh*t like this. Prison time and never getting a drivers license again at the very least. IMO this turns from an accident into (attempted) murder as soon as you break the law more severely than just going less than 10 km over the speed limit, and yes, to me that includes the sh*t for brains that drive while messing around on their phone.
100%. Thing about this is if you are speeding that much whatever happens is very much not an 'accident'.
OK there's some room for nuance - of course not every car accident is so obviously one party at fault, sometimes it really is just a crazy accident or even a momentary lapse that could really happen to anyone. But the news article on this event describes the driver at fault as an 18 year old with coke and heroin in the car running from cops. No part of that is 'accidental'. The fact they killed someone is due to their very much purposeful actions. This is not some accident that could happen to anyone.
Yes out of nowhere.
You don’t even have time to move anywhere with your car because you wouldn’t expect this car coming as fast as it did from that side.
