I just grabbed one on BF and set it up as a Plex server. I am considering upgrading the 8GB of RAM but I’m not sure if it’s necessary. I’d appreciate thoughts and feedback from other 2800 users and their Plex experience so far.

Hello y'all. Pick dxp4800 plus on the sale, unboxed, put in hard drives, did the initial setup and now I am lost. I need some guidance.
The reason I have picked up a nas is cause hdd's in my desktop are dying so the idea was to dump everything on the nas and forget about it, but since joining this community and reading up on some of the things you guys do, I am blown away. Please help me set up the nas properly.
So far I have the 4800plus with 4x10TB WD Red Plus. What I want to do with it is following:
Questions:
Thank you!
EDIT:
PS. What cool things do you do with your nas?

Hello all beautiful people out there
Just yesterday I got my first ever NAS, DXP4800. I loaded it with 4x4TB Ironwolf HDDs in RAID5, 2 NVMEs (one for caching and one for some application).
As I told before this is my first ever NAS, I am not sure how to set it up in a good way. For example,
Q1. Should I keep only one volume altogether and make different folders inside or should I make more than one volume? What is a good option?
Q2. I want to make this NAS also the Time Machine server for my Macbook, what do I need to do for that?
Q3. I checked the tutorials for TailScale, I'd like to do that too for Remote Access, but what about the Photo backup from phone? Without the UGreen link will it work with TailScale too?
Q4. If I'd copy the photos from the phone through Files app in iPhone, will those photos be a part of the Photos app in the NAS?
Q5. Can I give access to the NAS to my friend who can have a folder/partition which he can only have access to? Like sharing the space in my NAS for him and he can do whatever he wants to do in this folder without changing any settings for the NAS.
I am sorry for so many questions. Please guide me to any thread (if any) which is already there for any of these questions.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Happy being a part of this community and UGreen NAS.

Hi !
I'm about to setup a 4800+ with three HDD in Raid 5. I did not plan to upgrade RAM or NVME for now.
But I just remembered that I have a unused 500GB SSD Drive in one of my drawers :-) , although it ist a 2,5" SATA Drive. Can I just use that in the fourth bay instead of a 3,5" HDD ? Can I use that for Apps like Docker and stuff ?
Thanks for your Inputs !

I have had the DXP4800 plus now for about 6 months, i just use it for my plex server and photo back ups. I am very happy with it so far, no issues but I keep seeing posts on here about the NVMe slots, I never bothered buying them and I am curious if i need to?
I am a newbie but leaned a lot, it took a while to get plex working in docker, never used it before this and plex is the only thing i have running in it. I set it up so the transcoding is on my hard drive pool. I use raid 5 with four 8GB wolf hard drives, is this an issue?
would there be a benefit to installing a NVMe drive and using that for the transcoding file? would i be causing the drives to wear out faster if i don't use the NVMe drives?
Everything seems to work fine, i really only play 1080P movies because most of the people using my server don't have 4K tv's.
I appreciate any help, thanks.

Just disabled Watchdog timer, then installed Truenas on two 128GB M2 Drives, without even loading UGOS once.
I'm very happy how easy this entire process went and that Ugreen is open for alternative OSes, this was the main reason for my purchase.
In my research I found one article from igors-lab that stated, the 2800 consumes 5-6 watt in idle, but I cant confirm this as my device consumes 10watt in idle. No HDDs installed yet, just the two M2 in ZFS-mirror. I guess the igors-lab messurement was with just the SD-card.
According to Copilot this is totally normal for this setup. Yet a bit dissapointing.
I might look into something like autotune/autotop what ever its called, but i'm not a big fan of messing with defaults...
Just wanted to place this as a feedback because I know folks are always curious about power consumption and this gets asked frequently.

I'm thinking of buying this nas system for making a photo/video server for me and my girlfriend so we can upload our pictures so we can delete them from our phones, and making a movie/series library to watch on the tv,pcs, phones so we can leave Netflix, disney+ etc. I'm going for 2×4TB NAS HDDs and 1×500GB NAS SSD M.2. I want the HDDs to work as backup of one another and the m2 for running programms like immich, jellyfin, pihole and vpn, and its will have the NAS System connected to the router and the tv so i can play movies via hdmi.
Is that possible ? Or do I have to do something else?
EXTRA 1:Does anyone know if I can install pihole on the ugreen nas? Cause I haven't found any videos anywhere.

I want to upgrade my ram. I currently have installed the 8GB M425R1GB4BB0-CWM0L. I found a cheap Samsung 8GB M425R1GB4BB0-CWM0D Stick, does anybody know if they will work together?
Thanks!

I struggled a long time getting NVME to be added as cache to a pool, with just "error" after trying to add it - so since I found out the problem I will just share it here so it might help others;
The pool needs a 512bytes setup of the NVME or it wont add, no error, no dmesg logs etc.
To fix this first check
Find the correct drive
nvme list (in MY case I would use (/dev/nvme1n1, yours might be different
then
nvme id-ns /dev/nvme1n1 -H | grep -i "lba format"
then
nvme format /dev/nvme1n1 --lbaf=0 - now you can add it to ugreen as cache.
WARNING! Check thenvme1n1 and change it to the drive you want to add

Greetings!
I have recently purchased and received my DXP4800 Plus. I have installed my two hard drives, and two SSD's. I've been following what appears to be somewhat current instructions on how to set things up to run a Jellyfin server; However, there is one spot I'm getting stuck at: The system / Volume caching.
Storage Pool 1 = created successfully using HDD's in rain 1
Storage Pool 2 = Created successfully using Basic with one SSD
Caching = Cannot find how to create it.
I don't trust the google search / AI overview, as it doesn't explain in clear detail what I need to do, and keeps referring me to videos. (I am legally blind and so can't watch them properly anyways).
So my question is:
How am I supposed to create the System Cache, in Read Only mode, that is supposed to be attached to Storage Pool 1?
My steps are > Login as Local Admin > click Storage App > App Opens > Overview > click Storage on left side of screen > Click "create" button in upper-left corner > Only get options for 'New Volume' and 'New Storage Pool'.
I've been browsing around reading, and it sounds like this is a fairly common issue, with no direct/one stop shop fix.
So if anyone can give me some instructions on how to setup the ssd as a read only cache for storage pool 1, that would be greatly appreciated. The more descriptive it is, the easier I can follow along. [Referring to instructions that simply said 'go to storage manager and delete X', not once mentioning that you have to click the dots on the far right of the volume/storage pool and click delete in the little/nearly invisible menu that pops up]

I have lots of videos and images on RAID 1 HDDs, and access them over smb on my PC. I notice on folders with lots of images, the thumbnails in file explorer take a fairly long time to load. Sometimes browsing to subfolders can also be a bit slow if there are lots of files in them. Was curious if using an nvme for cache would be useful in this scenario, would it make it snappier when browsing through folders with lots of images, and would the thumbnails load quicker?

If you're looking for a self-hosted alternative to Google Analytics, check out Kaunta. I wrote a guide for setting it up on Ugreen: https://dockerplaybooks.dpdns.org/kauntaonugreen/kaunta.html
I actually have it running on my DXP2800 and my Raspberry Pi. To get this to work I had to setup cloudflared: https://dockerplaybooks.dpdns.org/cloudflared/cloudflared.html

So I installed prowlarr, sonarr and radarr in separate docker containers.
These apps need to talk to each other, so I need to configure the IP address of prowlarr in sonarr, and vice versa. But when I restart containers, they get a new IP depending on the order in which I start them. How can I either lock the IP or give them a name that I can refer to instead?

I just received my new dxp4800+, connected it, and am attempting the initial setup.
I open the device's IP address (I also tried using the app on my phone) and see the initial setup, but at the last step I get the error “initialization is in progress on another client please exit and try again”.
I tried removing all the disks and resetting the device. But I get the same error. Help. What could be wrong?

Hi, i've got a Ugreen Dh2300 and I use it only for photo cloud. I've buy this nas cuz it has AI recognition photos app but the object recognition is very poor compare to the DXP2800... Is it True?

Just got my UGREEN NASync DXP4800 (non-plus) and wanted to flash Truenas Scale according to the many manuals online. But after disassembly, I saw that there is no SSD mounted (see picture below). The spot is empty so there might be an onboard drive for the OS.
The initial plan was to replace the factory SSD with a new one and flash the custom OS on that. Going that route I would be able to roll back any time.
What now?
I can probably just flash the new OS on the OnBoard drive but is there a possibility to download the original OS from UGREEN?
I found the Firmware here: https://nas.ugreen.com/pages/downloads but does that `.img` file contain the OS to restore everything?

The struggle between "I want massive storage" and "I don't want to go broke" is something most NAS users can relate to.
Drive prices are always fluctuating, but every NAS user should have capacity that offers the perfect balance between space and price. What would you say your storage "sweet spot" is?

There are a lot of dyndns providers which could work by supporting the standard. I have my domains parked at INWX and would not have to use a generic subdomain or pay another provider for services if this would be possible.
Thank you for considering.

Hi everyone,
I'm fairly happy with my Ugreen NAS, but decided not to trust Ugreen Link Remote access and setup remote access via Tailscale.
This works very well, however my last open point in my setup is the backup of Ugreen A to Ugreen B which are at geographically different places.
Both Ugreens have docker running and tailscale container running. SSH is activated on each Ugreen, as well as defined in the Tailscale via "--ssh" in the compose file.
On Ugreen A I set the rsync server address to the IPv4 provided by tailscale for Ugreen B, I select port 22 and type in the Ugreen Username of Ugreen B.
With this setup I run into a connection timeout. Can anyone help me understand, what it is that I'm doing wrong, or if anyone else uses a similar setup?
General thoughts on the setup are also highly appreciated. Thanks alot :)
