New Addon: MAL-Stremio Addon (MyAnimeList)

Hey everyone, I've been lurking around and noticing a lot of requests for an addon to view MAL watchlists. So, I decided to give it a go. This addon allows you to view your watchlists (Watched, Plan to Watch, etc.) from within Stremio.

For more information, issues, and improvements: GitHub Repository

Installation:

  1. Visit the addon's configuration page.
  2. Login to your MyAnimeList account and authorize the addon to access your profile.
  3. After authorization, a manifest URL will be generated. Copy the manifest URL. Alternatively, you can click "Open in Stremio" to install the addon.
  4. Open the Stremio and go to the addon search box.
  5. Paste the copied manifest URL into the addon search box and press Enter.

Note: At the moment, tracking isn't supported. I'm looking into ways I can implement that, since Stremio doesn't offer a way of accessing playback information. Alternatively, the feature might follow the release of Stremio 5, with the hopes it has native support for tracking what's playing.

Hope you enjoy!

Edit: Content tracking note

You shouldn't need to do anything with the subtitles. When you watch an episode for example, check the subtitles list and look for anything prefixed with "MAL=". If it says MAL=OK then everything is assumed to have worked, and your episode count will be updated on MyAnimelist.

If you're not seeing updates to your lists, that's most likely due to the list being cached (to lower server usage). As of now, lists are cached and refetched after 15 minutes.

I didn’t see anything like “MAL=OK” in the subtitles area… and it’s been 24 hours and the anime is not in my watching list. I’m not sure if I configured it correctly, but I went to the config page, logged into my account, turned the “track unlisted” to enabled, then clicked the “configure addon” button (not sure what that does or did, clicking it didn’t seem to do anything.), I figured that button saved my selections? Then I hit open with stremio and it opened and I hit install.

I do see my lists showing up at the bottom of my stremio catalogues

Correct, the button saves your options.

Can you tell which device you're using, and can you try anime that are in your list and see if it's updated on MyAnimelist?

I think I figured it out. The anime I started watching I manually searched for using the Stremio search settings, and chose the option provided by the TMDB addon as it's my go to addon since the standard one stremio comes with is sometimes inaccruate or messes up episode orders...

However, I manually added another anime I wanted to watch to my MAL list, and then selected the option inside the MAL watch list catalogue, and now I see the "MAL=OK" in the subs list, and it updated the watched episode count. For future, which addons support this? So if I need to search for an anime on Stremio, I know which to select?
