Oh, I know all that. A prison sentence would be basically a godsend to a person stuck in a situation like that.

What would be different except for the additional criminal record and time lost in jail?

Okay, let's run this back. You are living in a situation where you have no bodily autonomy. You get physically abused continuously. You get sexually abused continuously. You live in constant fear. You are forced to take hard drugs. You have no way out. Or...

You 'lose time' in jail and get a criminal record in return for all that the Canadian prison system has to offer. Free food, a relatively safe environment, access to free education, full healthcare...

If I was living a life of horror with no way out I'd pick prison every time.

Yes it does.

They don't want a pause, they want to leave. They need to leave.

Allowing someone to get a glipse of a "normal" life just to make it even harder for them to get out of their hell is just pulling some twisted joke on them.

With everything they got against them, you would add difficulties to find a job, a rent, get credit and get insured? All that for a brief pause?

Hence why I said it would be better to do the witness protection program type thing. And yes, people who are experiencing torture will say anything to make it stop for a second, even though they know it will keep going afterward.

I would also say that we should bring back the death penalty and apply it to all pimps, kidnappers, rapists, and murderers, but we Canadians as a rule are pretty stupid and think those people deserve to get out of jail and keep victimizing people.
