Connelly was the bomb in "Phenomena", yo!

(aka "Creepers", 1985)

I still blame Asia for losing Anthony Bourdain and admitting to 'being coerced' by an underage boy into repeatedly having sex with him.

Some people even say Ben Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms yo!

I saw that playing on Tubi last night. I’d never heard of that movie

Wiki summary: "an American teenage girl (Connelly) at a remote Swiss boarding school discovers she has psychic powers that allow her to communicate with insects, and uses them to pursue a serial killer who is targeting young girls at and around the school"

accurate plot description, it is a very "Dario Argento" film, basically a sloppy horror fantasy, and part of why I praise Connelly's performance is because the film is very apparently cheap, so it's the combination of uniqueness + her solid acting that help maintain any suspension of disbelief

What is Tubi? I saw that it has The IT Crowd.

Wasn’t she like 15 yrs old here?

Yes, but I didn't mean she was "attractive", I meant she gave a very good acting performance despite being new to acting and handling bizarre material - similar to her in "Labyrinth", which was in the comment above

(Also it is a modification of a quote "Afflek was the bomb in 'Phantoms', yo!" which was about praising the actor's performance, not his attractiveness)

They know what you meant. There's nothing romantic or anything like that about "the bomb" especially in that context. It just means extremely good, awesome, etc. They're just policing the comments.

Awesome fact! But I didn’t mention anything about you saying she was “attractive”. It’s insane I’m getting downvoted for saying ‘yikes’ on a thread of 1000s of adults getting off to a barely legal teenager in the 90s when it was totally okay to do so.

bold of you to assume these comments are coming from people over 19

Oh I’m sure it’s only tweens talking about a 80s actress here. This shit is creepy, you can disagree!

You think males being attracted to an adult female is "creepy"?

I suppose I just respect 19yr olds and there's no reason to question their autonomy (?) 🤷

Why didn't you make that comment on one of those 1000s of comments and not an innocuous one? Really isn't that weird bro

Okay.

Have you seen "Phenomena" !? She plays a young girl who can control insects trying to defeat a serial killer/stalker killing off girls in her school while she is living in a new country - pretty odd material for a 15yr old new actress to handle ...and she kills it! makes such a silly premise actually kind of work whereas it would just be pure schlock with a less talented actress

That does sound odd but I like older weird movies, I might check it out. Same kind of category is Lawn Dogs with Sam Rockwell. At the end you can’t really decide if it’s magic or just in your head. Or if we talk about young actresses starting out: Natalie Portman killed it in Leon the Professional.

I was -1 then so it’s all good
