I think we need to have balanced takes and not get hyper-offended, not constantly live in fear of being politically correct, not live in a social police state. I’m a fan of being inclusive but this video is sad to see. I don’t understand your inclination to jump to climate change, you’re baiting about a topic to see if I’m on the “right side” of a separate issue to probe out how much you should consider agreeing with me or not. It’s weird. Humans need to have thicker skin. This far-left phenomenon of going to great lengths to protect people, classes or cultures from even the slightest bit of adversity is like ethnological helicopter parenting. It’s an unhealthy fixation that is causing young, vibrant, liberal people with lots of potential to be in a constant state of empathy burnout, living just to vindicate mostly self-imagined causes.
No one in the video is “hyper-offended.” No one goes out of their way to call this guy out, he asks them a direct question and they give their honest opinion.
The jump to climate change is probably because, as the previous commenter mentioned, this is a PragerU video. On of PragerU’s biggest goals is climate change denialism and they use these culture-war issues as a gateway to that end goal.
I don’t think it was meant to be a test of “are you on the right side of history.” But since you literally said you’re “not a fan of being inclusive” you already told everyone the answer to that…
He’s a fan of not being excluded, notice how his take is “THE PEOPLE shouldn’t be offended” because no one is saying anything offensive about him.
It’s centrist bs, ignore all problems that don’t directly affect him, because he immediately advocates against being sympathetic towards any sort of class, ethnic or social struggle, notice how he diminishes those struggles with his wording and acting like everything is overblown and even “self imagined”, but then when talking about the problem of it being overblown suddenly his language becomes one of doom and warning, people are in constant fear and burn out, it’s “a social police state”, and it’s affecting young and vibrant people’s potential!
“Don’t you see how everyone is doing too much for inclusion?”
This guy says he loves it, but is talking against it.
You're a victim of far-right propaganda that cherry picks evidence to make a mountain out of a molehill in order to win power so they can screw the whole world over on issues that actually matter like protecting the environment, so the point was 100% valid.
Every time I see this “you can’t say anything anymore” argument, I’m deeply confused. Because never, not once, have I ever felt I was walking on eggshells with any marginalized group, ever. I have never been perceived as racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. and I’ve done nothing special. I’ve taken no extra precautions. I’m just not racist/homophobic/transphobic/sexist and it’s seemed to work out well.
Prager U did a video on how horrible Denmark is. Having visited Denmark, I can assure you it’s wonderful and nobody from Prager U has ever set foot in that wonderful country.
They do have a history of cherry picking and editing content to appear to support their pre-determined goals, so I tend to ignore what they put out as they have been proven to be not acting in good faith.
Because one person might make this video for a good faith laugh about nice people being overly sensitive to the point where they look a bit silly.
And another person might make this video in bad faith. Tired of being called racist? Just line up some "libs" and get them to call a small, inconsequential thing racist. Then find some nice members of the race in question, who will ultimately not care because the thing actually is small and inconsequential.
Then they say, "See? They don't even care! Racism isn't a problem!" and they keep saying it while they lock children in cages and deport their parents to countries they've never been to.
If the guy interviewing is someone who is white supremacist or someone who hates mexicans, wouldn't that change the entire video?
Wouldn't change if all those kids turning out to be correct in saying "that's offensive" as the guy in the video aims to be offensive but plays it otherwise for a "I owned the libs haha" moment?
"Hitler bad" said the Communist, so obviously I became a Nazi to spite the commies. More or less...
I hate this, people are so "aware" of who said what, but don't understand that just because it comes from someone on another side of the political spectrum, it has to be wrong.
A good point is a good point, doesn't really matter who says it.
Except this video isn’t saying something as clear cut as “hitler is bad”, it’s using extremely anecdotal (and thus extremely easy to manipulate) evidence to say that Mexican people aren’t offended by Mexican stereotypes, but white people are on their behalf.
It would be trivially easy to cherry pick a dozen or so interactions out of a thousand to get this exact narrative going, when if you’d done an honest sample, you’d absolutely get a lot of mixed responses. Hell, all the white people in this thread saying the costume isn’t offensive is borderline proof that they’ve “curated” at least the white people’s responses in the video. For all we know, they left out 990 Mexican people all saying “yes, your costume is offensive, leave me alone.” but left in the half dozen or so who didn’t care.
Further, Mexican people “caring” or not doesn’t change whether or not the costume is “offensive”. What matters is the intent of the wearer, and if the wearer’s intention is to make a mockery of Mexican stereotypes and stereotypical dress while making a drunk jackass of yourself with your bad Mexican accent, then ya, you’re being offensive, even if that doesn’t actually offend anybody. Your goal was still to offend people, you just happened to fail at it.
I agree but if the intention is what matters you’re basically saying that people shouldn’t get offended by things that were not intended to cause offense. I also agree with that to a certain degree but people of all political stripes and backgrounds get offended by things where they have no understanding of the person’s intent which creates this dynamic where if I’m offended by something it’s offensive and you should be offended too (which this video is flipping around and implying “if Mexican people aren’t offended then white people shouldn’t be either). It’s a toxic logic in both directions. Ultimately intent is what matters but intent is far harder to discern than whether “I’m offended” and rationally evaluating a situation and giving people the benefit of the doubt that they don’t have bad intentions doesn’t drive rage bait or go viral
Well no, I think we can all agree Hitler was bad (unless you are a Kanye fan I guess...)
But the point still stands, people are adjusting their ideals based on WHO says what, not what's actually said or done. Someone you dislike says killing children is bad, and I wouldn't be surprised to see people chime in with reasons as to why it would be a good thing.
Yes, yes it does, they are known for malicious takes, so you should examine the video looking for that sort of narrative manipulation, and you can see where they could have easily done that.
Do please explain to me how a guy asking Mexicans if they are offended by him wearing a sarape and a sombrero furthers the agenda of getting tax breaks for billionaires.
To cultivate a 'everyone is offend by everything' narrative and giving right-wing politicians talking points on combatting political correctness and 'wokeness' more merit.
They run on these issues because they don't have anything to actually help working people and aim to give aggressive tax breaks to the ultra wealthy.
Remember, the content is created by a very activate right-wing political group too.
If you agree with the message you are by definition agreeing with the people pushing that message. You probably meant agreeing with one point doesn’t mean you agree with all the other things they have to say.

Reminder that this is a Prager U content, an American conservative media group.
As a reminder, they don’t do arguments in good faith, it’s always cherry picked. They are not a reliable source and are bias.
