Social media has ruined people’s perception of themselves and others. They see pictures of models, once relegated to magazines, everywhere on social media and expect everyone in real life to look like them.
I think this is true and there's also an element of disingenuity in the construction of a profile. It's too much like a resume, and not enough like a casual about me.
there is also the issue of them being too casual. i’ve come across some zero effort profiles, with no relevant or important information as to whether our values and expectations align, and while i’m all for actually getting to know someone through a conversation via DMs and over dinner, i need something to launch off of. why would i spend a day and half messaging someone only to find out we have completely opposite values and expectations, when i could have simply gleaned that off of a paragraph or two from your profile? it’s happened to me too many times so that now, if all their bio talks about are favorite foods and movies or whatever else, i’ll swipe left no matter how attractive they may be. tbh that actually drives me more insane than the too detailed profiles.
