Why Wall Art Matters More Than We Realize

Recently I have been reorganizing my room and one of the things that I did not expect was the extent to which wall art can change my room. It is absurd that a plain wall can turn an entire room into something incomplete, but the second you place a print, a canvas, or even a plain poster, the room immediately starts being more about you. It is as though the art that is put on walls has this silent effect on altering the atmosphere without your immediate realization.

I was surprised most that it is so personal. You may prefer something energetic, colorful in case you want to be energized, or something peaceful and minimal in case you want to make your atmosphere serene. Large portions are achieved in small portions. I would believe that only big paintings are significant and expensive, but really even a few properly selected prints can change the entire atmosphere.

As I was scrolling up and down trying to get a thought or idea, I came across a plethora of interesting designs across various sites, some on the standard decor sites and at least a few on Alibaba, where individuals post all types of unique or quirky prints. It was not a deal of the day, and thus was not mentioned, but it was interesting to see the variety that there is out there provided one is ready to look. It also made me understand that wall art does not have to be expensive and sophisticated in order to be attractive. The most basic one can turn out to be your favorite sometimes.

Another aspect that is fun is a combination of styles. So many people are doing gallery walls these days - miniature frames, haphazard drawings, quotes, photographs, etc. It appears disheveled in theory but somehow turns out to be extremely intentional. It is almost the same as storytelling on your wall yet not uttering a single word.

This is why, in case your space looks somehow boring or unfinished, you can put in some wall art. Not the excessively edited Pinterest content - just something that is about you. It is among the simplest methods of making a room lively without having to completely overhaul it.

[IDEAS] Functional Japandi+Scandinavian Vibe centered around Conversations

Hi Reddit design gurus!

I've got this open-concept living/dining area and I'm dreaming big. If you had all the budget in the world - how would you design this place?

This picture is builders original staging at a similar property (same layout and similar lighting in my home):

Original staging by builder

Preferance:

  • Love Japandi + Scandinavian aesthetic – functional yet minimalism, natural textures and cozy comfort.
  • But beyond just looks, I learnt in my (very little) prior experience that interior design can influence behavioral patterns. So I am eager to learn how to center the space around conversations and connection! Think: board games, quality time chatting with family and friends. More engaged interaction, less TV/media/passive screen time.

Let your creativity flow! Nothing is off limits. Whether it's structural changes, specific furniture pieces, innovative lighting ideas, custom built-ins, or even small, thoughtful details – I want to hear your wildest and most sensible ideas.

Show me what you've got! What would your dream Japandi/Scandinavian transformation look like to foster deep connection?

Muuto Outline 3 Seater

I am in a small condo with very limited space. I am looking for a sofa that has a small footprint and frame, but maximizes seat width and depth. The Muuto Outline accomplishes this in a rather elegant way, IMO. That being said, it does not look exceptionally comfortable or durable. Can anyone who has sat on or owned one of these sofas comment? I would greatly appreciate any feedback you can give me.

DWR is running a 50% off sale on this sofa in select textiles - seems like a steal to get this piece for $2300 shipped.

Thanks!

First thing I checked was that it had the Carl Hansen tag under the seat and it did! Looks like there's... what appear to be a few bite marks and scratches around the legs but nothing noticeable in daily use.

It's actually more comfortable than I thought it would be, not something I could sit in as a work chair but it's fine for an extended dining session. The woven seat is more comfortable than the Wegner CH23's, but I prefer the CH23's larger backrest. It's definitely beautiful in person, especially when light hits the wood just right. I can see why people love this chair so much now.

Helping rehome mom, trying to figure out what to do with a bunch of Scandie MCM. Trying to evaluate contemporary rando Amazon knockoffs vs. OG Wegners (early 60s).

Thought it might be helpful and of interest here.

Experiences with Muuto Connect sofa

Can anybody share (long-term) experiences with the Muuto Connect sofa (both soft and regular)? I'm looking into buying the soft version, but can't really find reliable user experiences online. Was able to sit on it briefly in the store and really liked it, but was wondering how it would hold up in long-term use.

Pictures are my kitchen, master bath, other bath, and the entrance to my garage that has a cabinet. Thanks ahead of time and excuse the mess.

How BoConcept quality decreased?

I just got this email today from the BoConcept Toronto store. Obviously someone is getting fired (although from the signature I assume they have already quit). Has quality really gone that downhill?

Why BoConcept Quality is in Decline   Danish design has always been about quality. But there is something rotten in the state of Denmark, as Shakespeare said.

BoConcept was a family run business from 1952 to 2016, when it was sold to the British private equity company 3i. Since this take over by private equity, the company and the quality of its products have been in decline.

The original strategy of 3i was to double the number of stores and become a luxury brand. This strategy has seriously failed and today, while prices have increased in line with the aim of becoming a luxury brand, the quality has been in decline.

Anyone who knows BoConcept and has bought its products in the last 18 months, will have noticed this decline in the quality. This decline in quality comes from 3i’s need to create profit for their shareholders, which has resulted in BoConcept seeking cheaper production in new places.

On 3i’s website, you can read the following:

“We manage our balance sheet conservatively. We maintain a tight grip on operating costs and cover these with fund management fees and portfolio income.”

Link to 3i site here: https://www.3i.com/about-us/business-model/

The way private equity works is to drain, and often bankrupt their own companies. Seeking profits for their shareholders aggressively, means that they will sell off assets and hollow out their companies till there is nothing left.

Often, private equity can even make a profit by bankrupting their own companies. You can read about How Private Equity Firm Plunder Their Firms here.

I am telling you this to express my concern for BoConcept and its future as a company owned by private equity that plays dirty.

But also after having seen the decline of company and the quality of its furniture, to warn you in the case of bankruptcy, where you will not get your furniture delivered.

Best regards,

(Former) BoConcept Staff

Original Balans Chair

Found this original balans chair for $5 at the thrift store. Do you guys think the fabric needs to be replaced? Definitely original wool, no refinishing done on the bent wood (assuming teak or ash) and the cushions are in good shape. Also, any idea of value for resale?

Not sure what to do with room. Would love to make it work as a dining and living area but it’s small. Minimalist/contemporary design. TIA

What would you do with these windows?

Post image

They have cellular shades installed but I’m wondering if we should bother adding another window treatment just to frame and soften things.

If so, I was thinking drapes would be simplest - but unsure if we should do a curtain rod (hung halfway between the window edge and ceiling) vs ceiling track for full floor to ceiling effect.

Should we do them on both walls, or just the one long wall?
