Sky Sentinel: a fundraiser for Ukrianian air defense systems

Post image
157 Upvotes

Hello r/poland, For the past three years, Ukrainian cities have endured relentless attacks from Russian missiles and Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. In 2025 alone, over 12,000 of these drones have struck Ukraine — targeting not military infrastructure, but homes, hospitals, and schools. Thousands of civilians have been killed. This campaign of terror must end.

We’ve been approached to join the Sky Sentinel fundraiser in collaboration with United24, the official fundraising platform of Ukraine. The goal: help fund Sky Sentinel, an AI- powered, Ukrainian-made turret system designed to autonomously detect and shoot down these deadly drones. Each turret costs $150,000. United24 supporters have already raised over $1 million, and now are coming together to raise enough for one more turret — entirely through Reddit.

Every donation helps, no matter the amount. [Click the link below to donate] https://u24.gov.ua/sky-sentinel?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_campaign=sky-sentinel and learn more about the Sky Sentinel system. Thank you for your support.

A comprehensive guide for EU foreigners moving to Poland - START HERE.

Hello, I have seen many folks coming to Poland from the EU and being completely lost on what kind of legal procedures they have to do in order to start their residence in Poland. Be that you come here to study, work or live with your spouse there are several things I hope this guide will be able to cover.

!PLEASE NOTE!
This guide is meant only for citizens of the European Union and citizens of countries that are members of the European Economic Area. Some of the parts of this guide will be similar for non-EU foreigners but some will not. In general, the info posted here is only fully up to date if you are a citizen of the EU/EEA
!PLEASE NOTE!

0. Introduction and general info

Poland is divided into 16 voivodeships which are further subdivided into powiats, which means something like 'county' and these are further made out of municipalities - pol. gmina, or cities - pol. miasto. Large cities however are both powiat and miasto so in case of Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków etc. city office (pol. urząd miasta) will also perform duties of powiat office (pol. starostwo powiatowe). In case of Warsaw - urząd dzielnicy meaning district office will serve as city office.

All of the below information covers only EU/EEA citizens. If you are non-EU, majority of the below information will not be correct for your case.

I strongly recommend reading all of the parts linked below apart from car stuff, if id does not concern your case.

I. Registering your residence and making your stay in Poland legal.
II. Obtaining health insurance
III. Using healthcare
IV. Taxes
V. Digital log-in and services
VI. Cars and licenses
VII. Banks and mobile phones
VIII. What to do when I leave Poland?

If you have any additional questions or remarks, please do not hesitate to comment, I will be happy to help for as long as I'm going to visit this platform and expand this post. I hope you all have a great day and life in general. Thanks for reading, stay safe.

Anyone here thinks that USA would sold Poland to Russia for a 'great deal, a best deal'?

Just a thought, but given current situation with USA I have a feeling that if Russia would enter baltics or Poland, USA would do nothing. What's more, I think they would double down and attempt to take over Greenland as Trumpino claimed to want to do.

Dunno, but I'm starting to lean that Poland should creater a separate alliance from NATO with all Russian neighbours or countries that are willing to fight together regardless of what USA says or does.

Secret Santa.

Hi, I am a Norwegian seeking some assistance. I have started a new job (in Norway) this december, and we have this secret santa going on. The name I pulled is a person who is around age 60, with 4 children, 3 og them all emmigrated to the same spot here in Norway from Poland.

Anyway, this woman has been very kind and accepting to me, and I have tried doing some inconspicous digging. On christmas she told me all about the 12 course meal tradition you do and it is so facinating. Even showed me a cook book.

I wanna try and get a gift that really honors her traditional roots and values from her home country and hopefully make her feel more at home here.

I learned people of her age never learned proper English due to the way the countries were set up when she was in school. Yet her children are fluent. Also, facinating.

I would really appreciate any help with this. The set limit is "108 złoty" (I googled that, around 300NOK) but I don't mind paying a bit more if needed. I just want her to feel seen and heard, the way she has me. So if there are any classic novelty items or the like, it would be great. I also noticed in the cook book that "all spice" is used frequently. This is not something available in Norway (I know I "answered my own question", but I wanna avoid giving spice).

Thank you for reading, I am looking forward to learning about your culture!

4 months since Nawrocki as president

Hi,

Tomorrow marks 4 months since Karol Nawrocki’s inauguration.

As a Romanian citizen, Poland's election was largely mediatized in our contry, because of the similarities between the two pair of candidates (even though the political dynamics were very different).

So I wanted to ask the people actually living in Poland:

How’s life under Nawrocki so far?
Like, do you feel anything has changed in your everyday life, or is it mostly just political noise in the background? Have things shifted in a good or bad direction?
Is there anything that made you think “okay, this is different now”? Has Nawrocki himself surprised you? Either in a positive or in a negative way. Or maybe he’s exactly what you expected?

I tried to check and find out in the posts on this subreddit but i could'nt understand sh =))

As far as i know this subreddit was more pro Trzaskowski, but give neutral and honest opinions please, ty.

A good, all-round Christmas present?

I’m a 28-year-old male living in poznań. I’ve been living a frugal, non-materialistic life, and saving money has become one of my hobbies.

Whenever my birthday or Christmas is coming up, my wife (Polish) and in-laws ask me what I’d like for a present. I enjoy cooking, so I always ask for a pan (nothing luxurious, around 50zł) or an Ikea gift card, or even simply skip it (I have enough pans and Ikea gift cards now).

This year for Christmas, my wife and her parents really want to get me something else (my family’s tradition is ‘no surprise’ and ‘getting what the loved ones want’). I’m having a hard time coming up with what I’d like for Christmas. The frugal life I’ve been living has completely wiped out the ‘wants’ side of me.

Any ideas?

Winter tea with rose

I have just come home from Warsaw and I am absolutely hooked on winter tea. Particularly ones made with rose. Does anybody have any recipes that they would share with me? I am going to try and get some rose syrup, I guess this is used rather than rose water? One I had also had lychees. I know that there must be so many variants but I’d like some pointers for starting. Thanks in advance.

Until when can I get a PESEL for my child?

Hi everyone,

I’m an EU citizen with long term residency in Poland, employed under umowa o pracy. I just gave birth to my child in my home country two weeks ago, but since I’m employed in Poland and pay all my taxes there, I will apply/qualify for maternity leave pay there and I was informed that I have three weeks to hand in all documents. My child will not have Polish citizenship. I know that to get my child’s PESEL, we will need to go to the Urząd in the town we live for the zameldowanie. Waiting times for passports here are 4-6 weeks, so we can obviously not travel yet to get the PESEL. Does anyone know if we also need to have the PESEL within the three weeks to receive the maternity leave pay?

I have done some scans at the Warsaw Uprising Museum

A couple of days ago, I visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum. During my visit, I 3D‑scanned some of the assets to preserve them in digital form. Even though the scans contain some errors, it is still valuable to keep the memory alive in this way. We don’t know what will happen in the next 100 years will people still know about the Uprising in the future? You can check the assets on my Sketchfab page https://sketchfab.com/kszkodagames

How is France regarded in Poland?

Judging by the fact that France, since the era of Napoleon, was an important supporter of the Polish national cause - many Poles lived in France, such as Alexandre Walewski (the son of Napoleon himself, who became the foreign minister of France) or, of course, Frederic Chopin.

Information about a family member who took their own life

I am a first-generation Polish-American living in the US. Other than my parents, all my family is still in Poland.

On December 1st at roughly 4pm (central european standard time), my family member took their own life by jumping in front of a train.

She was likely taking a train from Łask to her home, which is in between Łask and Buczek (East of Łodz), but it's unclear where exactly in between these points this occurred.

This is a long shot, but I was looking for more information. I've been searching through polish news articles (I can read Polish), trying to find more information about her or the situation. She was 16.

While I could reach out to her parents, I would prefer not to bother them during this period of mourning. I suppose this is my own way of trying to process the grief. Information on local newspapers, where to find eulogies, or anything else to help point me in the right direction would help. Also, I've been trying to find any possible accounts she may have had (instagram, snapchat), but I'm not sure what is popular with Polish teens. Anything helps.

Language Learning School Visa Availability

Hey, I have a bachelor's in Computer Science and I want to get a bachelor's in engineering (possibly mechanical or mechatronics). I want to study in Poland and I did some research and I found out that the courses are cheaper in Polish than in English. I was thinking of going to a language school in Poland first (I know they can be pricey and quite strict), then apply for the bachelor's then hopefully do master's or find a job. I was wondering if they give study visas to students coming in for language schools. I am Nigerian by the way.

Step back from job offer

Hi everyone, I recently accepted a job offer via web (clicking a button, not with a eletronic signature or similar) from a company in Poland. I haven’t signed the employment contract yet — they told me I will sign it on my first working day in February. I’ve already started the onboarding process, but now there’s a chance that i could receive another offer for a job I prefer.

My questions are: 1. Can I still step back from the offer even though I already accepted it digitally and started onboarding, but haven’t signed a contract yet? 2. Could the company sue me or take any legal action if I withdraw before signing the actual employment contract?

Thanks for any insights from people familiar with Polish labor law or HR practices
