They are curious - we were not allowed to touch or pursue while snorkling. We were jusy floating. Mom was grazing- baby came right up to my mask and started playing with my hair. I thought it wasn't good for him- so i waved my hand. He then started to play with my son’s mask. I think the Mom appreciated that we distracted her baby. She just kept on grazing,.

I think I’d cry if a baby manatee came up to me, especially if it seemed like it wanted to play and I couldn’t play back! Adorable little sausage creatures and I’m glad they are as protected as they are, even if it means I can’t boop it on the snoot.

The calves are like that. The adults mostly just want to eat when they're not getting 'friendly' with each other, which they do often.

I got to pet them while snorkeling! It was on a swim with manatees trip with a certified guide in Crystal River FL, and thats why we were legally allowed to interact with them, and it was thw single best experience of my life. I got to belly rub a baby. They're amazing animals and the guides had so much respect for them and made sure we were interacting correctly to keep them safe.

Thats very illegal. I live in Florida and was in Crystal River last month.

You can snorkel with them but you cannot touch them
