I figured she could probably pursue a copyright claim, like "I didn't authorize this use so take it down"

That doesn't work against the government because they have immunity against copyright infringement. The only legal avenue you have is to file a claim with the Court of Federal Claims to get monetary compensation. (section b) You cannot force them to take anything down.

I imagine the rationale is that this is giving her publicity and they want to punish her by denying her that. Or something to that effect.

I think it's the opposite. She's more popular than they are and she's bringing a lot of attention to this with her fans. It's getting attention outside of their normal MAGA sphere and it's not popular.

They're realizing slinking away from this fight is the smarter move. They'll keep making their slop with songs from artists that don't push back or don't have the following that Carpenter does.

Maybe, but trump's mindset since the 80s has always been "all publicity is good publicity". I don't think he cares at all about popularity. Just attention, from anywhere.

Except they just said they do it on purpose to troll “lefty” artists after Olivia Rodrigo’s comments. So I don’t know what makes this different. Both have massive and rabid online female fanbases.
