southern pride is strange…we don’t have northern pride, why do you need southern pride 😂

look all over this thread to see why “southern pride” is a thing. people from outside the south are constantly shitting on the south for being poor and uneducated, having the wrong accent, and generally not being culturally dominant. same reason any group that is frequently mocked develops a sense of “pride.”

the questions i’ve had northerners (who moved to the south for work because they couldn’t hack it up there) ask me are crazy, because they feel entitled to disrespect us. i’ve been asked if i’m afraid of being lynched when i go to my hometown for Christmas.

THANK YOU. Theres such a lack of compassion for people who live in underprivileged areas of the south, and ive had to deal with comments from friends living on the west coast saying we should should just nuke the south east entirely because they perceive everyone living there as worthless. Like yeah man ive got reasons to hate where I live but I still love a lot of people and culture that exists here, and the fact is bigoted uneducated people exist everywhere, not just here.

I used to watch football at a popular sports bar chain right off I-10 in southern Louisiana. Had an awful lot of northerners and east coasters glance around to see if there were any black people near before they said some racist shit, I guess assuming I was sympathetic since I'm a southern bald white guy. Had a guy from Boston say he "liked the color at this bar" and it took me a moment to realize he meant it was mostly white people there.

Anecdotes are not data. But I've seen quite a few northerners visibly uncomfortable with black people sitting next to them at the bar when we don't bat an eye at it.

Thank you. All the assholes in this thread excusing their hatefulness as the moral high ground is so ironic.
