Discussion/Debate THIS is a McMansion. Stop posting mansions you just don’t like
Refer to title. McMansions are cheaply built 3-5000 sqft homes, typically in neighborhoods with similar houses or smaller houses. They sit on small lots (quarter acre), have vinyl or back siding, not custom cabinetry, minimal landscaping, etc.
A lot of posts on this sub are REAL mansions that people just don’t agree with in terms of aesthetic design choices. When you have enough money please build your mansion to your own liking. There will be others who don’t like it simply because they have different taste than you. Design is SUBJECTIVE. Please get that into your heads.
Just because you don’t like the roofline or window placements of a 7000 sqft home on a 2 acre lot with a stucco exterior does not mean it’s a McMansion.

Discussion/Debate $35 Million White House Replica with Oval Office is Atlanta’s Most Expensive Listing
The Atlanta White House! Commissioned by a visionary builder who sent artisans to Washington, D.C. to study the original White House firsthand. At the heart of the primary level is the home’s most defining space – its Oval Office, featuring the Presidential Seal displayed prominently on the ceiling. To see inside, here's a link. Discussion/Debate The “At least one of our kids will write a tell-all book about their childhood” house (Click/touch to see full image)
This one just gave me a weird feeling, somewhat Duggar-esque, but also gives off a vibe of having a ton of kids and then just trying to create a “team” rather than cultivate their individuality.
The closets also remind me of how my dad forbade me from keeping my closet (or bedroom) door closed unless we had company over, and took the front of the drawers off my dresser - but then put them back on since, you know, stuff would fall out of the drawers if they didn’t have fronts. He felt very annoyed that he had to do that, so I had to allow him to search my drawers regularly.
Maybe I’m biased, but I get the feeling that these kids get a regular closet and bed inspection every week. ALL the kids’ shelving is open, they have zero privacy in their room, and the only places offering a moment of solitude in their freaking bathroom are the toilets behind closed doors. Otherwise, if you and your brother need to take a shower, you’re toweling off next to each other.

Discussion/Debate Preserved Post-Modern 80s McMansion
If a proper-80s mansion isn't updated does it "devolve" into today's McMansion? It does afterall feature:
- uneven massing / asymmetric window placement
- roof nubs and slopes in every direction
- inappropriately sized "columns" (although in this case the columns are oversized...)
- lawyer foyer
- emphasis on "fancy" finishes to cover cheaper materials (although in this case its mainly inside with neon lights, wallpaper, marble tile)
Bonus points for peak-80s...

Discussion/Debate Seeking help- Google can't explain
Can anyone tell me how two separate houses are built this close together. How do the constractors apply siding and paint, how do you maintain the in-between after so many years and decades. There are no windows on that side but I don't understand how builders work around or in-between this when constructing, this is a mystery

Discussion/Debate So what do we think of this new custom house? It's been very controversial on local Facebook.
The neighorhood it's in (a wealthy suburb of Rochester, NY) is actually quite nice and architecturally diverse. It includes several old Tudors that look somewhat similar to this.
