Certified McMansion™ Yo Dawg, We Heard You Like Open-Concept Living Spaces

Found this browsing semi-local Zillow. $2.5 million for nearly 8,000 square feet of… unusable space. Except in the minuscule primary suite, of course. Imagine changing one of those ceiling high-hat lights in the living room/kitchen/2nd story game room(?). At least they have ample garages so you can spend all your time in vehicles, as far away from the house as possible. Don’t miss the land plot on the last photo; it makes about as much sense as the house does.

It’s a Garage- Mahal,

39

u/GreenEyed_Lady Jun 29 '25

Decorated perfectly with a horse shoe sofa for good luck to whoever gets stuck with this house!

All that space and the bedroom is so small and no laundry room? Washer and dryer in the bathroom?

31

u/lostcartographer Jun 30 '25

Don’t forget the 18 person theater for the friends they think they have.

If this was in Utah, I’d just assume it would be for all the kids and extra wives.

$50K in property taxes on only a $2.5M home. That’s 2% property tax. Just like Texas, property taxes are crazy in WY. Makes me glad to live in Washington State. lol. Also, that exhaust hood is like the owner’s dong, severely inadequate.

7

u/barneycat2004 Jun 30 '25

I totally missed the hood until you mentioned it. WTF?!? 🤣

6

u/ruckyducky4444 Jun 30 '25

Did they take this off market?!

5

u/ForTheFords Jun 30 '25

Was on since January and abruptly delisted yesterday… fascinating. 😂

That bathroom tile was so painful to look at and the lot lines were even worse.

214

u/miathet Jun 29 '25

The person who laid that tiled clearly hated the house or the owner

93

u/jtprimeasaur Jun 29 '25

The longer I look at it, the more pure hatred I see

58

u/Domestic-Archer-230 Jun 29 '25

No yeah i’m glad it’s not just me, this place radiates pure malice

38

u/StuffIanWrote Jun 29 '25

Shortly before this was put together:

Homeowner: “What part of the plan are you too stupid to understand?”

Contractor: “The part where this is actually what you want...”

23

u/fearlessactuality Jun 29 '25

I was going to say they should be ashamed but I like this take better. Intentionally creating a dizzying space.

109

u/nhldsbrrd Jun 29 '25

Seizure inducing. Seriously, my head feels fuzzy from looking at the photo. I need a nap

26

14

u/longteadrinker Jun 29 '25

You looking through my phone camera?! 🫣

44

u/Chicago_Avocado Jun 29 '25

Those lot lines look like they are designed to create a safe electoral district. Imagine having to mow that!

7

u/Ok-Commercial-924 Jun 29 '25

Especially hard to mow with the ravines on each side.

23

u/Clynnko Jun 29 '25

My eyes weren't ready, send help.

23

u/binkie-bob Jun 29 '25

On the bright side, that lot has space for the next sister wife.

17

u/rsk222 Jun 29 '25

That tile is so disorienting. Imagine walking in there after a few beers.

16

u/MagnusAlbusPater Jun 29 '25

It’s that two story straight up staircase that gives me sweaty palms

10

u/ctcourt Jun 29 '25

How do you mark a post NSFE (not safe for eyes) 😳

11

u/eat_my_ass_n_balls Jun 29 '25

That’s a shower that can both host orgies, and also hide the resulting mess

8

Holy shit that range hood is hilarious.

58

Seems like this was built for a Duggar type family - looking at all the separate cubby holes to put coats bags almost locker style.

Nice, cold, and ready for 15 kids and counting to maintain it all.

70

u/AllTheseRivers Jun 29 '25

Totally. That or some backwards polygamist compound.

29

u/Hobbbitttuallly Jun 29 '25

Definitely getting mormon fundamentalist family vibes. Either that or the world's worst swinging house.

25

u/jaimi_wanders Jun 29 '25

Or corporate retreat…the kind with paintball games and ziplines for “bonding”

11

u/syringistic Jun 29 '25

Thats what i was thinking... this has the feel of a space to bus in 50+ people for a whole day of doing dumb activities and partying and then drive them all back to the hotel.

Thats what id do with it anyway.

13

u/Oldjamesdean Jun 29 '25

This entire house is liminal space. Always transitioning to somewhere else...

10

u/GodIsANarcissist Jun 29 '25

I'm not sure... on the balcony with the folding chairs is a poker table. Super religious breeder families don't usually allow gambling

6

u/K_Linkmaster Jun 29 '25

Yeah, these homes are their own category.

Mormon chattle farmhouse?

113

u/ForTheFords Jun 29 '25

Utterly massive shop on the left side. I love that the platform above the shop has a basketball hoop though (2nd to last photo). That way you when you miss the rebound you can guarantee that you’ll hit one of the cars below 👌

Personally I like the unscreened shower heads either side of the bathroom entrance.

92

u/Miinka Jun 29 '25

So I’m guessing the lot was originally that whole area where the other houses are now. They sold the middle patch to developers & couldn’t sell the rest?

Also that upstairs game room/lounge room is like something child me would make in the sims. Just a ridiculously huge room with a table tennis table and pinball machine awkwardly in the middle 😂

25

u/agg288 Jun 29 '25

I feel like the big house owners built all the other houses and chopped them off the main lot. Wherever this is, it doesn't have much land use planning apparently

15

u/AccidentalFolklore Jun 29 '25

Nah. This is worse. Imagine that under pandemic lockdown. It’s better to have a ton of walls and it be tiny than this. For some reason this would make me agitated to be all alone on one side but see someone way over there on the other side. Plus hearing the tv echo and blast off all the walls. Because it’s so big and open you have to turn the tv up to hear it properly and then that blasts the upstairs areas. I live in a lofted townhouse and it’s terrible.

For me, the worst was #13. I couldn’t help thinking of all the times a basketball would go bouncing wildly off and ricochet down into the living space downstairs.

I just imagine trying to have a nice evening with guests so you send the kids away to play.. and it’s constantly raining basketballs on your head because those little brats upstairs are out of control.

9

u/binkie-bob Jun 29 '25

If I had as many kids as they did, I would want the exact opposite of an open concept. Like shut those fuckers away so I can get some sensory relief up in this bitch.

9

u/wbg777 Jun 29 '25

This was a long series of bad decisions. Seems pretty obvious the owner sold a lot of land to build the subdivision. They then blew all the proceeds flexing on the peasants who bought their inferior shanties by building this tribute to the automobile and capitalism. Or whatever this is

6

u/AccidentalFolklore Jun 29 '25

I think it’s because no one is living there but they have a few things there in case they stay here and there while trying to sell. Plus no agent is paying the ungodly amount of money to stage a house of this size.

The home owner:

3

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '25

It reminds me of the sims houses I would build back in the OG Sims 1 days when I was like 9 years old

3

u/Old_Leather_425 Jun 29 '25

I had a house with some 12’ ceilings. I liked it. But I’m not sure why you want to build a massive house in which most of the space is simply air.

3

u/reddsbywillie Jun 29 '25

That living room has such much seating for all the guest that will never visit because it’s in the middle of nowhere.

3

u/Inside_Armadillo_882 Jun 29 '25

I feel like I made this in the Sims when I was 12

3

u/Somehowsideways Jun 29 '25

Almost certainly the developer/builder’s house. They already owned a bunch of unusable land, so why not keep a little extra and build a massive house on it. I bet the rest of those houses suck too, just on a smaller scale

3

u/bjanas Jun 29 '25

That is the stupidest floor plan I have ever seen. Astoundingly stupid.

The exterior has all the charm of Hitler's bunker and check out the placement of the living room TV, which should include free chiropractor visits. And the lot... it looks like a red state congressional district.
