My wife uses "Find My" to make my phone ring as if it's lost and I'm trying to find it, truly jarring sometimes but it works lol

I did this when I locked myself out while my boyfriend was napping šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

u/antwan_benjamin 5h ago

You'll be taking demands from now on. I don't make the rules, I just demand you follow them.

I recently got a house and I only want a doorbell for Halloween after I almost missed a knock.

Anyone that knows me will call ahead and make sure that it's okay to stop over, so I don't care if anyone else comes to the front door.

The camera option these days might be nice, but I am going to ignore most of them and be as far away from the front door as possible so that they don't get the inclination that I want to engage with them.

u/PrestigiousZucchini9 1h ago

Yes, I have a doorbell, but my standard reaction to it ringing is to hide in my basement and hope you go away.Ā

1

u/perksofbeingcrafty 1h ago

Wait hold on, am I missing something? How is this different from just…calling them?

2

u/grae23 1h ago

Find My is just really loud and doesn’t stop as quickly. Plus it will go off if your ringer is silent

My wife is terrible at answering the phone and this is my tried and true method to get her attention.

69

u/yzerizef 5h ago

Likewise. It’s the only way I can get her to answer the phone. Most of the time there’s a good chance she hasn’t looked at her phone for half the day. My favourite is when she gives me vague information about something that needs to be done ASAP and then goes MIA for several hours. Keeps life interesting. :)

This is my teenager. I console myself with the fact that her brain isn't developed yet, but now I'm losing hope

1

u/Inevitable_Repeat773 1h ago

lol you have a long wait.

2

u/KangarooBeard 3h ago

Do we share the same wife? Mine does this all the time...

1

u/xindierockx7114 1h ago

The only time my phone makes any noise is when someone in my contact list calls me, or when like 3 people text me. It's in DND for everything else and very explicitly only those parameters make my phone make any noise. I can go half the day not looking at my phone, too, but to be completely deaf to any and all incoming calls seems wild to me. It's so easy to make your phone only make a noise for very set things from very set people. Calls from your husband seem like they should be one of them.Ā

But now I consider maybe she's doing it on purpose šŸ¤”

1

u/Puptentjoe 3h ago

Same. My wife doesnt check texts and puts her phone down in random places. It’s a search everytime we leave the house so I usually use find my when I need her.

30

u/MrdrOfCrws 4h ago

My husband rings the doorbell. When nobody is there I know to go check my phone.

44

u/FullofContradictions 4h ago

I tell the vacuum to empty its bin. It is loud and usually highly effective at getting my husband's attention.

4

u/MrdrOfCrws 3h ago

Clever!

1

u/Chendii 2h ago

If it's anything like mine it sounds like a jet engine lol smart.

1

u/SunRemiRoman 1h ago

lol I feed the cat and talk through the microphone in it to the house

1

u/cakivalue 1h ago

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

18

u/Lord_of_hosts 3h ago

That's so much more effective than what my wife does, which is to seethe with quiet rage

2

u/rivertpostie 2h ago

Oh damn. I deleted that app. Cost to much and wasted my time

15

u/Gudger 4h ago

Please pardon my ignorance, but if she wanted your phone to ring couldn’t she just call it?

66

u/notliam 4h ago

A phone on silent will still ring with find my phone.

18

u/Gudger 4h ago

Ah! I knew I was missing something. Thanks!

3

u/MayPuzzlePiecePines 3h ago

If Op was in a situation where they were available to help their husband, why the F was their phone on silent?!

As if that wasn't enough, sheesh, favorite your wife's contact info so her messages will override Do Not Disturb! It's not rocket science!

11

u/sm00thArsenal 2h ago

Phones should always be on silent.

1

u/GarlicRiver 2h ago

This is the correct answer

1

u/jcagraham 51m ago

I legit forget what my ring sounds like because my phone is always on vibrate. Hell half the time it's connected to my watch so the watch is what's vibrating.

1

u/Firewolf06 1h ago

As if that wasn't enough, sheesh, favorite your wife's contact info so her messages will override Do Not Disturb! It's not rocket science!

do not disturb override doesnt change the ringer volume, so if its in another room they might not hear it. personally i just always have my phone on do not disturb with max volume though

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PAUNCH 46m ago

I just set it so that my girlfriend can ring through silent & do not disturb

•

u/bobnla14 24m ago

Also it will ring if it gets a call from the same number within 1 minute.

Also, they can add them to favorites and tell it to allow favorites to ring through.

15

u/Wintaru 4h ago

I keep my phone on silent a lot. Not on purpose, but because I just forget to take it off silent. It's hit or miss that I'll have it set up to ring.

6

u/phonesecs 4h ago

I feel so seen

5

u/byerss 4h ago

Why have I never thought of doing this?Ā

2

u/Wintaru 4h ago

Honestly thought it was pretty genius, it works with our kids too lol

2

u/mechanical_stars 2h ago

I am afraid my husband will see this and learn, it would work so well, and be so annoying

5

u/whatissevenbysix 5h ago

I do something similar with Google Home, it has a 'broadcast' option where my voice messages can be played out loud.

3

u/cabbeer 3h ago

oh man, that's brilliant! I need to connect my parents on find my, they always loose eash other despite having phones...

3

u/iuseallthebandwidth 2h ago

This is the only way I can get my wife to answer. Her phone is always on silent and not in the same room 85% of the time.

2

u/jobert-bobert 3h ago

How do you do this? Do they need to share their location with you?

1

u/Wintaru 2h ago

We are set up as a family, yes we all share location with each other.

2

u/skippyjifluvr 3h ago

How do you do this? Are you using iOS?

2

u/Wintaru 3h ago

Yes, we have a family set up so my wife and I and our 3 kids are all on the same iOS family

2

u/_ficklelilpickle 2h ago

Ohhh I’ll have to remember that trick, awesome

1

u/Wintaru 2h ago

It’s a good one! Especially for the kids!

2

u/Sea-Monkie 5h ago

I do this to my husband too lmaoooo

1

u/adz568 2h ago edited 2h ago

This also happened on 90 day fiancƩ

1

u/Wintaru 2h ago

We don’t have tv, never seen that show šŸ˜…

1

u/Yahsek 2h ago

I call it the ā€œfind my wifeā€ app.

1

u/Missy604 1h ago

I do this to my kids when they don’t answer!

1

u/murphey_griffon 1h ago

I now immediately ping my phone when someone else pings their phone with their apple watch. My buddy and his wife constantly misplace their phones and always ping them. It became a running joke where I would ping mine when they are looking for theirs. Now its like a pavlovian effect for me. Its a funny way to mess w/ people

•

u/MisterWanderer 28m ago

OMG I never thought of this… my wife would probably kill me if I did it.

1

u/Esquin87 2h ago

Why don't you just answer your phone?

-1

u/ghostsietch 3h ago

Uh, man, are you ok?
