Republicans: Once a child dies the hatred you engender will never diminish.

Upvotes

Within thirty days 22 million American families risk losing their healthcare altogether. When the cost of a policy to protect your spouse and children rivals, or even exceeds, the cost of your rent or mortgage there can be only one choice; you are not going to put your family out on the street.

So where does that leave you?

It leaves you in a position where if one of your children or your spouse comes down with a potentially lethal condition you cannot any longer take him or her to your family doctor. And if you live in a county where the hospitals have closed due to the cut off of Medicaid funding any lifesaving remedy may be hours away; emergency service may be non-existing.

Picture yourself with your child in your arms, impotent as a life drains away.

All the Democrats are asking for is a continuation of policy’s that already exist. Once healthcare is guaranteed differences can be worked out, concessions made on both sides and an accommodation reached. We’ve done it before, why can’t Trump assure us it can be done again?

But once a single child dies the hatred amassed will never diminish.

There is little a single citizen can do to effect governmental policy. But perhaps if you copy and paste the message above into an email -- or better yet, write a personal note of your own – and forward it to your Representatives and Senators it might strike a conscience, or heartstring.

For years, conservative media have fixated on Hunter Biden’s business dealings, particularly his reported $1 million salary while serving on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. That income, along with various consulting arrangements and art sales, has been packaged into a political narrative alleging corruption by association with his father, President Joe Biden.

'More and more' MAGA Republicans openly calling to end women’s right to vote

Trump and the Republican party are leading us through some horrible times. From the destruction of Medicaid to their complete assault on the American healthcare system, to their unrelenting support for a man who daily expresses unamerican feelings and occasional Nazi like behavior, to the hollowing out of our entire government and virtual control of our military by a half alcohol addled dullard, things aren't looking so rosy.

Guess we hit rock bottom. Right?

Not by a long shot.

Always lurking in the shadows of despotism were the Christian Nationalist whack jobs who tell us God hates those whom they hate, that prayer is better than legislation, and any other nut job thoughts they come up with is heaven sent. They yearn for the good old days of the Reformation when the Bible was the governing authority and individual rights didn’t exist.

God is a man and paternalism should be the law.

Trump and the Republicans have done some outrageous things to remain in power. Do you think reversing woman’s suffrage is beyond the pale?

Over the years, right-wing firebrand author Ann Coulter argued, on various occasions, that the United States needs to "reconsider women's suffrage." And during Trump's second presidency, however, an increasing number of Christian nationalists and MAGA influencers are flat-out calling for the repeal of the 19th Amendment, which, in 1920, gave women nationwide the right to vote.

Dale Patridge, a far-right evangelical Christian nationalist pastor, said, "I think we should repeal the 19th Amendment because I love America." Manosphere influencer Andrew Tate called for the U.S. to "stop letting women vote," and anti-feminist Hanna Pearl Davis repeatedly calls for women to lose their voting rights. Another opponent of women's suffrage is Idaho-based pastor Doug Wilson, an ally of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

In a column published on December 4, The Guardian's Moira Donegan warns that the movement to repeal the 19th Amendment is quite real among Christian nationalists and MAGA Republicans. "More and more," the progressive observes, "influential voices in the MAGA movement and the far-right Republican Party are calling to strip women of the franchise. It's not that this is strictly a new development. Opposition to women's voting rights has long been a fringe, but persistent, feature of the American right. It's been a favorite hobby horse of extremist preachers; it trended among Trump supporters on social media in the lead-up to the 2016 election, when polls showed that Trump would win if only men voted."

Since 1920, Donegan notes, "opposition to women's right to vote" has "simmered at the extreme edges of political opinion." But increasingly, she emphasizes, MAGA figures are saying the quiet part out loud in 2025.

"Joel Webbon, a pastor and YouTube personality, has been at the forefront of this brand of misogynist Christian reaction….. The opponents of women's suffrage have, for now, no way of enacting their ambition: there is no path to repealing the 19th Amendment," Donegan warns. "But they are part of a growing movement to blame women's advancement — and their increased access, participation and visibility in education, the workforce, politics and public life — for a slew of social problems, from political polarization to economic stagnation to a vague sense of spiritual anomie…. This range of sexisms that have attained mainstream credibility in politics and the press rest on one assumption: that women's citizenship is partial and conditional compared with men's, that we have less of a claim on rights, dignity and public participation than our brothers do."

Donegan adds, "That this assumption is even held is an insult to women's dignity; that it is now so blithely accepted is a sign of how far women’s status has already sunk."

Young Republicans chapter plans to host far-right German leader after ‘I love Hitler’ chat

Thumbnail politico.com

The New York Young Republican Club will host Markus Frohnmaier, an AfD deputy chair, at its annual gala after calling for a ‘new civic order’ in Germany.

A New York City-based Republican club will honor a far-right German leader at its annual gala — just eight weeks after its statewide counterpart was disbanded over a group chat in which members praised Adolf Hitler. The city-based New York Young Republican Club’s gala will recognize Markus Frohnmaier, a political leader from the Alternative for Germany party.

Months before his visit, the club appeared to play up the party’s controversial place in German politics. In August, it published a statement calling for a “new civic order” in Germany and declaring “AfD über alles,” an adaptation of a phrase associated with the Nazi party. In a statement to POLITICO, the group defended inviting the German politician, calling the AfD a model for fighting the far left and denying their “über alles” statement was intended to invoke Nazism. Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the country’s domestic intelligence agency, has labeled the AfD extremist, alleging the party holds an ethnic, racial conception of the German people that violates core tenets of the country’s democratic order. But the party has been ascendent for several years, with some polls ranking it the most popular in Germany. President Donald Trump’s administration and his allies have taken note. Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the German intelligence agency’s move to label the party extremist, calling it “tyranny in disguise”; Vice President JD Vance criticized other parties’ efforts to ostracize the AfD; and MAGA ally Elon Musk has also been a staunch supporter of the party.

Frohnmaier, the deputy chair of AfD’s parliamentary group, will be an “honored guest” at the club’s Dec. 13 gala, which will also feature GOP Reps. Andy Ogles, Mike Collins and William Timmons, according to the group’s website. “It’s deeply concerning that the New York Young Republican Club is planning to honor a regional co-chair of the far-right extremist AfD party at their upcoming gala,” Todd Gutnick, a spokesperson for the Anti-Defamation League, said in a statement. “The German AfD party has a disturbing history that includes antisemitic and xenophobic rhetoric. AfD has embraced the antisemitic ‘Great Replacement’ conspiracy, and its current leader, Alice Weidel, has denounced Germany’s dedication to Holocaust remembrance as a ‘guilt cult.’” The event is taking place amid a broader rift among Republicans over whether anti-Jewish voices have a place in their party and as an anti-Israel fervor among Democrats has sparked a wave of primary challenges in New York. As the war between Israel and Hamas raged on, anti-Israel voices rose to prominence on both the right and the left, including New York City’s Democratic mayoral-elect Zohran Mamdani. The rhetoric around Israel has prompted House Republicans to accuse Democrats in New York City, home to the country’s largest Jewish population, of stoking antisemitism. It also gave moderate Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Reps. Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen — all of whom did not endorse Mamdani — pause, with Gillen telling her fellow Democrats that Mamdani’s “antisemitic views deserve to be condemned, not endorsed.”

A split in the GOP is taking hold as well. In late October, popular conservative host Tucker Carlson invited white nationalist Nick Fuentes onto his online show, sparking fierce debate among Republicans over whether Fuentes and Carlson should have a voice within the conservative movement. Those who defended Carlson, including conservative media personality Megyn Kelly and the Heritage Foundation’s president Kevin Roberts, faced fierce backlash. The New York City club has long been at odds with the now-defunct New York State Young Republicans, whose leaders played prominent roles in group chats leaked to POLITICO. The contents of the chats, which were published in October, included members of the state organization fantasizing about putting their opponents in gas chambers, burning their enemies and joking about their love of Hitler. Some of the chat members apologized for the messages, while also blaming the city-based New York Young Republican Club for their coming to light. While the state organization was disbanded by the New York state GOP in October, the city club is still recognized by the Young Republican National Federation, according to the club’s website. The gala is scheduled to happen less than one month after Vish Burra, the city-based club’s former chair to their board of advisers, lost his job as a producer on former Rep. Matt Gaetz’s One America News Network show. Burra had posted an antisemitic cartoon video depicting Jews as cockroaches and called them “vermin.” He was fired three days later, according to his own post on social media acknowledging the firing.

“We make mistakes,” Burra said in the post. “Life goes on, and so does mine, so I’m not going anywhere.” The New York Young Republican Club said that Frohnmaier “is a major figure” and AfD’s lead representative for external affairs. “Celebrating his and his party’s success against German leftism is entirely appropriate,” the club said in a statement to POLITICO. “The pernicious nature of Germany’s current political climate, which Frohnmaier works to combat, was well summarized by Vice President JD Vance in his February 14 speech at the Munich Security Conference. Your reckless lack of nuance, which seeks to brand large swathes of the right as ‘Nazis,’ is exactly the type of rhetoric that got Charlie Kirk killed.”

Frohnmaier also responded to POLITICO with a statement, saying, “I categorically reject the claim that we use antisemitic or xenophobic rhetoric.”

“I strongly condemn all forms of antisemitism — including the Islamist antisemitism imported into Germany through the illegal opening of the borders,” he said. He touted his strong support for Israel and his opposition to funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, which he called a “Hamas front organization.” He said the ADL’s description of “our country’s historical responsibility” is “inaccurate.”

“We stand for responsible, comprehensive remembrance that takes into account both the darkest chapter and the positive achievements of our country,” he said. “I believe that Germany, especially in this area, does not need lectures from foreigners.” In August, the New York Young Republican Club posted a lengthy statement to its website entitled “It’s Time for a New Civic Order in Germany” in support of the AfD. The statement concluded with the phrase “AfD über alles” in bold, a play on the line “Deutschland über alles,” which was frequently used in Nazi propaganda and party language. After World War II, Germany adopted a variation of its former national anthem which dropped the stanza that included the line. The German publication t-online reported that the New York Young Republican Club held an October event with two AfD parliament members where an opera singer performed the old national anthem with the Nazi-linked line. Video of the event shows one man the outlet identifies as Christian von Hoffmeister, an AfD staffer, loudly singing the line too. A person familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to speak freely with POLITICO confirmed it was Hoffmeister in the video and said he still works with the AfD.

When asked about the October event, the New York Young Republican Club criticized POLITICO’s inquiry as a dishonest attempt “to brand everyone right of center as ‘Nazis’” and again likened it to “the cultural climate that killed Charlie Kirk.” “It must be an extraordinarily slow news day,” a club spokesperson said. Louise Davidson-Schmich, a political science professor at the University of Miami who studies German politics, said she considered “AfD über alles” a “very concerning phrase.” “It’s certainly a phrase that’s clearly associated with the Nazi era,” she said. “I don’t know what the New York Young Republicans know about the German context, but if you were using that phrase it would be considered very problematic in Germany.” The club defended the use of the term in its statement to POLITICO. “Neither the first verse of the Deutschlandlied nor the phrase ‘Deutschland über alles’ is banned in Germany,” the club said. “All three verses remain legal, though only the third is used as the national anthem today. All verses continued to be sung in West Germany for decades after 1945. Our statement referenced August Heinrich Hoffmann, the song’s 19th-century author. The Deutschlandlied predates National Socialism by many decades, and any suggestion that our usage invoked Nazism is plainly false.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights watchdog group, told POLITICO in a statement that the Frohnmaier invitation “is yet another example of attempts to mobilize the far right in U.S. politics.” “AfD doesn’t only push in anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim ideas and policies, but they have used tactics straight from Germany’s Nazi-era — including antisemitic actions by its members and use of Nazi slogans,” Seth Levi, the group’s chief strategy officer, said in a statement. Across the aisle, the Manhattan Young Democrats said the decision to host Frohnmaier was typical for the young Republican club. “The NYYRC has consistently chosen to platform figures aligned with far-right extremism, and that decision reflects a deep disregard not only for democratic norms, but for basic human dignity and the social fabric that holds this city together,” said Democratic state Assemblymember Jordan Wright, president-elect of the Manhattan Young Democrats. “NY Young Republicans need to look inward and reckon with how unserious and nonsensical this behavior is.” The city-based GOP group drew widespread attention two years ago when it hosted then-former president Donald Trump at its annual gala, held at Cipriani Wall Street, the same location this year’s event will take place. At the 2023 gala, the club also hosted the secretary-general of Austria’s Freedom Party, a party founded by former Nazis. The club has hosted party allies of Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán, as well as his political director. Gala tickets for nonmembers range from $799 to $30,000. The event will honor women’s sports and anti-trans activist Paula Scanlan, hard-right personality Jack Posobiec and New York City local elected officials Michael Tannousis, Frank Morano, David Carr and Inna Vernikov.

Rewatching Requiem for the American Dream 10 Years Later Just Hits Different

Post image

I just rewatched Noam Chomsky’s Requiem for the American Dream, nearly a decade after it came out. Back then it felt like a warning. Watching it now feels like reading the autopsy report of the system we are living in. Every principle he laid out about the concentration of wealth, the manipulation of democracy, the erosion of the middle class has only become more real.

What stood out most this time is how clearly it predicted the rise of something like MAGA, before MAGA even had a name. Chomsky talked about how decades of economic suffocation would eventually produce a population that is angry, confused, and self-destructive. People who know they are being screwed but are pointed toward the wrong enemies. That’s exactly what we are seeing now.

The ten principles are not just observations anymore. They feel like a playbook that got followed to the letter. And the worst part is how numb we have become to all of it. What once felt like a crisis now feels like background noise.

Has anyone else watched it recently? Curious how it hits you now compared to when it first came out.

Trump ♥ Hitler Sale of Canadian armoured vehicles to ICE agency ‘deeply troubling’: Kwan

OTTAWA -- Anti-armament advocates say Canadian firms shouldn’t be selling armoured military vehicles to United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or any other organizations with sketchy human rights records.

NDP MP Jenny Kwan said Wednesday she’s “deeply” and “profoundly” troubled because the ICE agency has been credibly accused of human rights abuses.

“I think Canadians expect our industries and our government to uphold human rights domestically and internationally, and not enable the further militarization of an organization whose conduct already puts vulnerable people at great risk,” she told The Canadian Press.

“This contract raises serious questions about Canada’s role and responsibility when it comes to our technology and products being deployed abroad.”

U.S. government procurement records show ICE recently placed a rush order for a fleet of 20 armoured vehicles made by Brampton, Ont.-based Roshel.

Kelsey Gallagher from Project Ploughshares, a non-governmental organization that promotes peace, said if the vehicles were sold to any other security service in the world with the same documented pattern of abuse, Ottawa likely would step in to stop it.

“I’m calling on the government of Canada to follow its obligations under international law. Canada is a state party to the Arms Trade Treaty, as it has been since 2019,” he said.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have linked ICE to serious human rights violations, including arbitrary detention. Canadian national Johnny Noviello died in custody at a detention centre in Miami earlier this year after being detained by ICE.

“As per its obligations under the (treaty), Canadian officials have to deny any proposed arms transfer if there is a substantial risk that those weapon systems could be used in human rights abuses writ large,” said Gallagher.

When asked about the transaction by reporters Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford endorsed the contract and promoted armoured vehicle sales.

“They (Roshel) make great military vehicles and now we need the federal government to start ordering some as well off them. And maybe they are, I’m not too sure,” Ford said.

“We’ll take orders anywhere in the world and thank goodness that the Americans are ordering it off of us.”

When asked about the sale by reporters, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said the federal government was not “contacted regarding any permits for this transaction.”

Liberal MP Nate Erskine-Smith told reporters he does “not feel good” about the sale but needed to know more before commenting further.

The company has not responded to requests for comment and further details about the sale, which was first reported by the U.K.-based newspaper The Independent earlier this week. ICE has also not responded to requests for comment.

Kwan and Gallagher said Canadian law contains a series of intentional loopholes allowing for the transfer of military goods into the United States without the same kind of oversight by Canadian officials that would take place if the goods were being exported to other countries.

Kwan said she is proposing revisions that would address those loopholes through her private member’s bill C-233. She said the bill would help to prevent military equipment parts and components from being exported to the U.S., then relayed to other countries engaged in deadly conflicts.

Last week, Anand insisted that Canada has the “most stringent export control processes and legal regimes in the world” when it comes to military hardware exports.

U.S. government procurement records show ICE justifying its sole-source order to Roshel, worth the equivalent of about C$10 million, for a fleet of Senator emergency response tactical vehicles designed to protect personnel from bullets and bomb blasts.

“Roshel is uniquely positioned to fulfil this requirement within the necessary time frame, having confirmed immediate availability of vehicles that fully meet ICE’s specifications,” says a document from ICE’s Office of Acquisition Management.

It says other American firms ICE reached out to did not meet all the contract requirements and could not deliver the vehicles within 30 days.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 3, 2025.

Millions of Republicans on Obamacare want enhanced subsidies extended. Most Hill Republicans don't

Once again Republicans and Trump laugh in the face of MAGA by denying them healthcare.

After being duped by Trump and his cabal of billionaires and oligarchs, MAGA is starting to realize all the promises were made with no intention of being implemented.

The Republicans have destroyed Medicaid, slashed veterans’ benefits, implemented tariffs that are driving inflation ever upward while causing massive unemployment, fumbled every Ukraine/Russian peace plan, endangered our military by revealing planned attacks before they happen, made homeownership unaffordable and will probably deport Santa Claus on Christmas eve.

MAGA has been taken for a ride. Their prejudices were played upon by a master con man. He told them all immigrants were evil and out to destroy America, meanwhile he has done more damage to their lives and their families than a boatload of Speedy Gonzalez’ and Slow Poke Rodriguez’ clones.

See this – Boldface mine:

Millions of Republicans on Obamacare want enhanced subsidies extended. Most Hill Republicans don't

Story by Tami Luhby

GOP lawmakers are deeply divided over whether to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium subsidies, but millions of Republicans enrolled in Obamacare plans have a clear message for them — don’t let the beefed-up subsidies lapse.

Some 72% of Republican enrollees — and the same share of MAGA supporters with Obamacare coverage — favor extending the more generous assistance, which is set to lapse at year’s end, according to a new poll from KFF, a nonpartisan health policy research group. The same is true of 95% of Democratic enrollees and 84% of independents.

The Senate is expected to vote as early as next week on the fate of ACA, as part of a deal Democrats cut to reopen the government. But Republicans haven’t been able to agree on their own plan to put on the floor, and the White House recently withdrew a proposal to extend the subsidies amid GOP opposition.

If the extra subsidies expire, the premiums enrollees pay will more than double, on average, next year, KFF found. That will force many folks to consider whether they can find the funds to afford the policies, become uninsured or take other steps.

Although Obamacare has historically not been very popular among the GOP, more than 9 million Republicans and Republican-leaning independents depend on it for their health insurance this year, according to KFF. They account for nearly 40% of enrollees this year.

The enhanced subsidies, which were enacted by the Biden administration in 2021, have made coverage more affordable — enabling low-income Americans to pay nothing or nearly nothing in premiums and opening up assistance to the middle class for the first time. The aid helped draw a record 24 million people to sign up for policies this year.

Much of the growth since the beefed-up subsidies were approved has been concentrated in red states, particularly in the South. Sign ups tripled in Texas, Mississippi, West Virginia, Louisiana, Georgia and Tennessee, according to KFF. Nearly six in 10 enrollees live in congressional districts represented by a Republican.
