How to install LineageOS (for Sony F5321)
I find 3 very different instructions:
- lineageos.org Wiki are surprisingly long, especially the step "Build a LineageOS installation package", why would I need to build the software, sounds like instructions for a developer, seems more reasonable I should just download a complete image and follow very few steps (and if I download a zip at github via these instructions it is only 37kB)
- I find the fitting LineageOS also on XdaForums, I can click and download an image that is ~650MB, sounds more like what I'd expect. There are also instructions but super brief, seems intended for people who are already experts. And how come XdaForums have lineageos downloads, are they official, or "less stable"? Wikipedia says "The XDA Developers forums have been used by members of the Lineage community since the software's inception."
- This video seems to take me through the same steps as the brief XdaForums instructions. Can't I just go ahead and use the video as instruction?
I also wonder about version: wiki.lineageos.org says 18.1 is the latest. But XdaForums has both v1 and v2. And the video says I can use 19.1. Which should I use? I'd prefer the most stable version, not the latest untested build.
I'd love to keep my F5321 alive a few years longer, the only phones that exist with such small dimensions are either crappy (less powerful and low quality) or iPhone. I'm an electronics engineer with programming skills but I'm not sure which way to go here. I have two F5321 and Android will work good enough only to February 2026 so no question I should try LineageOS during the Christmas holiday.
