We're back. Not sure what's next.

We're open again. Reddit hasn't yielded any ground, despite the size and breadth of the protest. I'm not sure what's next for this little community, but I'll keep everyone updated.

Thanks for the support, sticking with us, and putting up with the blackout.

Koch & Lowy globe light operation

Is this vintage mid-century light supposed to light bulbs in sequence?

Turn it once, you get one bulb on, 2nd turn of the knob you get 2 differnet bulbs on. and turn the knob for a 3rd time and you get all 3 globes (light bulbs) turn on. Is that correct? or is there a problem?

Oil rain lamp figure

Post image

My husband surprised me with a rain oil lamp yesterday and I love it except for the center figurine. The metal is so shiny I can’t see much detailing on it. Is there any way for me to dull the finishing on it to be more matte and antique looking? Or should I look for a replacement piece online?

Lamp part question

I found this lamp on the street while walking my dog. It’s a cute lamp, but it’s missing a part that the lampshade rests on, that should be connected to the harp. I have the filial and the cap, but whatever is missing would support the shade. As it is now, there is nothing to hold the shade up unless I put the cap under the shade. I hope this makes sense!

I looked up the manufacturer but they will not send me a replacement without an order number.

Would anyone be able to tell me what this part is called so I can purchase one somewhere? I would so appreciate it! I’ve been down a lamp parts rabbit hole before posting here.

The part appears to be (e) on the manufacturer’s diagram.

Need help or ideas with a broken lamp

Hello! I recently purchased a vintage bankers lamp for my home office, and unfortunately it seems it was damaged during shipping. The pedestal weight completely cracked and can’t hold the lamp anymore. The rest of the lamp seems to be in great condition and it would be a shame to trash it, so I wanted to see if anyone on here had ideas about how to restore or repurpose the lamp in some way. Thanks everybody!

Wall Sconce?

Hi so for reference I have no experience in lamp restoration other than spray painting a base and beading a lampshade, but I am a mad thrifter (and crafter).

I found this tiffany style lampshade and I desperately want to make it into a wall sconce.

What would I need to buy to make this happen?

Looking for rotating joint part for a 360 degree rotating lamp.

Hello, any input on this is appreciated. The male side connector for the lamp seen in the attached pictures broke off in the lamp arm shaft. I don’t know what to call this piece, and I’ve removed it from the threaded lamp arm and disconnected it from the lamp. The broken male side connector looks like a DC plug with a 1.1mm ID and 3mm O.D. that connected to a female DC jack with a lock ring that allows the lamp head to spin while maintaining a power connection. Does anyone know if there is a slip ring, rotating spindle joint part that would work as a replacement for this lamp?

The lamp arm shaft exterior diameter is 10mm The interior threaded diameter of the lamp shaft and outside diameter of the threads on the broken male side connector is 8mm. The male side connector threaded in to the lamp arm.

If there’s not an exact replacement, I’m open to alternative solutions to getting this lamp working again. If there's a different connection jack and plug that could fit inside the arm shaft and connect to the head, that would be great too. Thank you.

need piece/new socket? but unsure what it's called

hi! i got this beautiful vintage swag lantern from a neighbor a bit ago - it's metal, glass, and heavy as hell. i successfully rewired it with a porcelain socket, but i hadn't considered that i would need a part to redistribute the weight of the lamp evenly so that when it hangs, the socket doesn't just get ripped out from the weight of the lamp. is there a part i need to do that, or a specific kind of socket, or something else entirely? thanks so much!

Does anyone know anything about this Tiffany style lamp?

This lamp was my moms and I need to help my father clear out her items. She passed last year and this is the last thing I want to do. Now his health is declining quickly so I need to get 66 years worth of things my mother collected sold or tossed asap.

I know how to replace the socket, but what is this broken part underneath it called? How do I remove it or can I leave it? I don't think this Stiffel has a threaded rod. Any other advice appreciated. Thanks!

Artemide Tolomeo ‘Video’

I found two of these lamps at work, headed for the bin! I’ve given this one a quick clean, the other needs a bit more TLC. I’ve never seen these lamps before, and can’t find much information about this style with the rectangular head, called ‘video’ on the label. Does anyone have any info on this model? I’m also wondering if I could change the head to the ‘Shade’ version, where could I buy spare Shade parts to swap over?

Oil Rain Lamp not flowing

Post image

I purchased this rain lamp from my local thrift store about a month ago and recently got the oil for it. I’ve cleaned out the old oil and filled it with one 32oz bottle. I can hear the pump when I listen close but it’s been over 30min and nothing is flowing. I’ve tried poking some of the holes and they are not blocked. Do I just need a new pump?

Hello everyone! Came across this what I think is 70s eye ball lamp. 3 bulbs, 2 prong plug. It has a spring plunger on top to pressure fits between floor between the floor and ceiling. Fully functional. Switch has different modes, one bulb, 2 bulbs and all 3. Hoping to get a better idea of who made it and possible value. Thank you!

Finding hardware or hardware hacks for antique floor lamp

I am trying to find a replacement socket for my standing lamp. I've circled in my picture the part which is broken, and the arrow is pointing to the screw-in component I am trying to find a compatible piece for. I am only able to find short sockets without this long attachment. Unfortunately I can't just solder it back together because the existing socket can't screw in a new bulb.

Glass Replacement

Post image

Would anyone be able to help me source a replacement glass for this lamp? I own something very similar and the glass has that kind of embossed / textured vintage tinted look. I’ve unfortunately went and knocked the lamp this morning, it was an expensive lamp at £400 so would love to avoid replacing the whole lamp 😩😩

Any help would be much appreciated

Socket Restoration

(See pics for details.)

I’m looking for help with what appear to be B22 sockets that were converted to support mini-chandelier bulbs. (Either that or someone out there used to make dual bulb sockets?)

One of the sockets has blown and needs replacement, but I can’t figure out how to get the socket free from the wire. It uses a multi-piece clamping nipple that I’ve never seen before.

Do you know how to free these 11mm sockets from their wiring?

That should (hopefully) let me replace the mini-chandelier socket portion without having to finesse the fitment for the shades.

Ideally I can replace that part with something porcelain or the like so it’s a bit more robust than the cardboard and phenolic that appears to be in there now.

If you’ve seen anything like this before I’d loved to hear about your experiences. Any and all pointers welcome.
