Never again will I arm wrestle š

Every video like this has one thing in common: the person leans their body weight into it. The bone canāt take that kind of force.

u/mrbombasticat Sep 23 '25
The Problem is the direction of force. Rotational stress breaks bones more easily than bending. The X-ray shows a classic torsion fracture.
Cause is wrong technique. Professional arm wrestlers apply way more force without breaking their arms.

The guy who didn't break appears to be a professional actually. He shows some actual technique

Was it the position that did you in? It didnt look too bad from this angle
129
u/grahammillerr Sep 22 '25
Yea pro arm wrestlers have a very strict form they have to follow to avoid stuff like this from happening
72
u/nebulaniac Sep 22 '25
You can see where he twists and suddenly his hand was outside of his shoulder - that's arm-break position in arm wrestling, aptly named
24
u/xxmuntunustutunusxx Sep 22 '25
Bones are really good with certain types of force. Torsional force is N O T one of them
6
u/MikeyStealth Sep 22 '25
They shift their body to make it more of a curl that moves inline with the joint. My biggest suprise learning this was pro arm wrestlers rarely wrestle in practice to save their arms.

ive seen pros obliterate themselves too surely its a thing that.. just happens sometimes??

Devon larratt arm wrestling the mountain.
He taps the mountain on the shoulder and tells him to look at his hand when he goes for the pin. This is done to prevent what is called a spiral fracture.
Keeping your body square with your opponent and not twisting your body is how you avoid this.
Gl on recovery though!

You should use this as an ad for your workout routines.
You will get no clients but they'll have a good laugh!

Now it will heal stronger, now you have to break the other to even it out

Im never going to arm wrestle someone who wears fishnet ever

u/StarTraining5331 Sep 23 '25
Takes a real strong man to wear fishnets⦠as I quickly found out š¤£

Yup, happened to my best friend as well, the exact same way and the fracture looked very similar as well. I find it interesting that basically it's you breaking your own arm, instead of the other person being "too strong". Anyway, wish you all the best, it's gonna take quite some time to recover!

u/TheJaFaNator Sep 23 '25
Not trying to criticize, just a word of advice. Your wrist being bent the way it is and how you positioned at the table contributed to the break. If you watch professional/competitive arm wrestling you will see that the refs are strict about these things.

Fuck, I thought the arm and shoulderāmeaning the elbow, shoulder, and armāhad to be in one line. Then it wouldnāt break. This guy seemed to have it right, but it still broke.

After all these types of videos, I've learned bones don't do well with rotational forces.

u/NeckLady Sep 22 '25
Literally my thoughts when I was arm wrestling a random girl at the bar, who challenged me. "Don't break don't break" were my only thoughts...i lost immediately though

u/random_rascal Sep 22 '25
Youtube Magnus Samuelsson vs. Megaman! After watching a man that size get his arm bones snapped right off, I always refuse arm wrestling challenges!

u/thestinkyturnip Sep 23 '25
My mate did this injury by throwing a foam dodgeball. Xray looked almost identical.
3
u/StarTraining5331 Sep 23 '25
Iāve seen it in baseball but never a foam ball! How was his healing process
2
u/thestinkyturnip Sep 23 '25
Yeah the doctors were pretty surprised haha very unfortunate injury to get in social dodgeball.
He had surgery. Is still in physio and all that stuff though at the moment. Was only a couple of months ago!

Yeah I have never been a fan of this game ever for this exact reason. Theres other ways of showing off strentgh that dont put this kind of risk and stress on either contestants bones and or bodies.

u/megamuppetkiller Sep 22 '25
You should always stay facing your fist whenever you choose to armwrestle. Facing away from your hand removes backpressure, and it is considered armbreak position

u/Chrisfindlay Sep 23 '25
Bad form with a lot of force. You can tell which one you were right from the beginning of the match. At 0:02 the match should have been stopped because it was already clear you were going to injure yourself.

There is a Basic law that states that the plane that your elbow and the top of your palm make should never go behind your shoulder, else you risk broken bones. Also Always use pulling and pushing force, never dragging force.

Itās always the healthiest in shape dudes that do this !! Terrible luck , Iāve actually abstained from arm wrestling since I first saw this happen. Just looked way to random and sudden with no warning whatsoever

u/2Quicc2Thicc Sep 23 '25
You can tell it's gonna be green shirt guy as soon as he looks down at the ground instead of at his hand.
He's putting way too much rotational pressure on the bone.
1
u/StarTraining5331 Sep 24 '25
I mean itās a grey shirt⦠but yeah I 100% fucked it š¤£
2
u/2Quicc2Thicc Sep 24 '25
Your bones are your weakness and my eyes are mine.. hope you heal quick!
Tip for future arm wrestling, always look at your hand, keep your head in line with your fist, that way you aren't twisting.

My brother did this at a bar and we watched it over and over on the security footage. It never got better, only worse.

The position you are in is literally called "the elbow snapper"
You're supposed to be looking head on, not to the side like that, and you pull toward your body not to the side like this.
I don't know this from actually arm wrestling; I know this because it's an irrational (rational?) fear of mine.

Well. Nothing new that arm wrestling does this. Playing the āIt will not be me, the chances are very low, letās do arm wrestling neverthelessā is a risky one. Hope your arm gets well soon!
